回到五道营,回到童年,如果爱一个人时间会过的很快,我是有多爱五道营,转眼功夫已经是傍晚夕阳西下。时光不走,我们不散!

One of my favourite shopping areas. As compare to nanluoguxiang 南锣鼓巷 and Yandai xiejie 烟袋斜街。This place is a must must go, which I found it so charming. As we were using AMap app, Andingmen subway station was one of the nearest.
Not so crowded, with combination of houses, shops and restaurants. Many shops were fine and special. We had dinner at the Veggies Table. Somehow, sure has some gifts for you to bring home.
Just beware of the moving vehicles as the alleys were narrow. Happy dining and shopping.

We took a rickshaw around the hutong and got to see how some locals live.
Very tight little streets with shops and old homes. Also the riverside with restaurants and bars was very cool.

Great walking tour for an hour or more; Interesting little shops, good coffee, a couple of restaurants, a decent public restroom at the start, 2 temples on the perimeter.

I wanted to go and explore the hutong of Beijing to find out exactly how people live away from the broad boulevards and avenues, the grand hotels, the upmarket shops and the luxury and ostentation that China has embraced from the West. These are the alleys and lanes where real Beijingers live. The living, breathing soul of the city.
Hutong are alleys and lanes which contain traditional courtyard residences. They are similar to medinas found in middle eastern countries. Neighbourhoods were formed by joining one hutong to another. Since the mid-C20th, a huge number of Beijing hutong were demolished to make way for new roads and buildings. More recently, the Chinese government have given hutong protected status, in an attempt to preserve an aspect of Chinese culture that was in danger of being wiped out. Hutong have been around since the C13th so they represent an ancient way of life and living.
This is a pictorial story of the hutong. I have shot the pictures in monochrome to try to capture the spirit, essence and timelessness of a way of life that was almost lost.

Discovered this street when taking a slow route away from the Confucius Temple.
What lovely place. Designer shops, delightful coffee shops etc etc
Wish could have found time to get back several times
PS The TA map position is way, way, way out.

We started with a rickshaw ride through the Hutong, a traditional Chinese village. It was so interesting seeing these style of living compared to the apartment buildings which so many Chinese are living in today. There was A LOT of great shopping and food here. Have a guide with you who can explain the meanings on the markings of the homes front doors...really fascinating!

This is not a real shopping street. More a nice walk among old hutongs converted to minimalist industrial style cafes and tea ceramic shops and a few boutiques. Not very long but can combine with a few attractions near buy, temples, ditan park etc. Different vibe than other hutongs.
