Consistently in the top 10 things to do in most Hong Kong travel guides, this is truly a memorable experience. However unlike the main attractions this is far less busy. Maybe due to its location or maybe because some walking is involved, I’m really not sure. But I can assure you the trip here is worth it. The Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is a wonderful addition to your Hong Kong itinerary . the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery was founded in the 1950’s and is not only just one monastery, but consists of 5 temples, 4 pavilions and 1 pagoda.
Tucked away this is not the easiest place to find, but when you do you be instantly blown away by the sight. Lifelike golden Buddha’s, glittering in the sun, stretching as far as the eye can see. As you ascend the 430 steps you will be gazed upon by these looming figures. Quite a surreal experience. And a great selfie opportunity. Check out each Buddha, each one has a unique and different expression. Some jovial and some menacing. Choose your favourite!
The statues become grander and more ornate as you climb and at the top is a wonderful temple where you can pay your respects. A magnificent view of downtown HK is provided too. Perfect gift after a long climb. This is a very peaceful spot, and you can just while away some time here, wouldn’t even believe you are in a mega city like HK
A giant towering pagoda also greets you at the top. All one can do is just gawk at it in awe. This pagoda is actually featured on the 100HKD bill and is an iconic landmark of this city! You can have the cnahce to climb the 9 floors and see the vista below you.
You can sit and rest for a while, or snap some pictures. You can go down again, but this time using a different path. Fewer Buddha’s on this route but watch out for the monkeys. They will appear and try to steal your belongings so be careful! Or possibly just sit and watch you as you go by, who knows! Going down you will end up in a little community area, with small houses and local people going aboutt thier business.

What a find. The 10.000 Buddha Monastery is a true and wonderful experience. One has to climb steps to reach the main temple but is rewarded by the view of the lined up monks on the way. There are seats provided along the climb. Once you reach the main temple, you look at 10.000 Buddhas all lined up. There are larger size monks, other buddha sculptures as well a pagoda which no closed to climb up because of the coronavirus. You shall be at inner peace and enjoy the splendid surroundings of Shatin. There is a gift shop that sells refreshments too. One can climb up further to see more of stone carved generals and other female sculptures. To sum it up, sensational. If you are in Hong Kong for a longer time, go there. It is free and one has to strike it off one's bucket list.

Worth every step of the way. Make sure to start early on as it gets very hot and humid during the day. Take time to enjoy the monastery at the top!

If you're in for a good exercise and it's a cool day, this is a great excursion well outside the hustle and bustle of the Island or Kowloon. It's a really nice, sometimes-shaded pathway up the hill, lined with life-sized, gold covered statues of Buddhist masters. Some are astride animals, some are warriors, some more meditative--but all unique. The shrines at the various stops are almost secondary to the walk up. That said, once you get up the hill you're rewarded with views of HK and also a few small Buddhist temples. One of these of course houses the 10,000 small Buddha statues for which the place is named. There are also picturesque pagodas, and a gift shop selling all kinds of various amulets. The walk from Sha Tin MTR is maybe 5-10 minutes, but not very well marked. Take a map with you, or get directions ahead of time. Don't be fooled, however: be in good shape for the pathway is long and in some areas quite steep.

One of my best friends came for a visit and even though I’m living in HK I’ve never been to the 10.000 Buddhas monastery. This was a great opportunity and it did worth it! Tiresome sure but not as tiresome as I thought. Totally doable. Just be careful though - on your way there (and back) with the train NOT to go on board the A class wagon because conductors come often :)

Can a person with difficulty climbing steps or walking a long was take the tour?

It’s a long steep walk up to the monastery. Not suitable if you have a walking difficulty.
What are the operating days and hours? Thanks!

I'm not sure of their operating hours, but I do know they close around 5:00 pm. If you enjoy the walk up to the top, it will take you a good hour and a half to make it to the top. It's very peaceful along the way and at the top. If you plan to spend some time there, I would start earlier rather than later.

I will be travel with my 10 month old daughter. I would like to know if I can take her up there by a stroller or better carry her.

The path is paved, however, it is quite steep in places. Also, if you’re going now, it will be extraordinarily hot and humid. Personally, there are a lot of more suitable places to take your 10 month-old in HK.

They have the slope next to stairs but i would not recommend it... also its not same as Big Buddha, no cable car.
How to go to Chi Lin Nunnery from Ten Thousand Buddhas? Which do you prefer, riding a taxi or MTR?

Depends on how much time you have. Be as quick or slow as you want. If you’re in good health it doesn’t take long to climb to the top. The steps are small and easy. Take water though.
