‪Kadoorie is a highly respected organisation that helps educate the public on important areas of nature conservation, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation as well as sustainable living and use of the land. They operate this large family-friendly attraction that includes sustainable farming and research, wild animal rescue centre and large scale gardens and walking trails located on the slope of Tai Mo Shan. It is directly along Lam Kam Road and accessible from Yuen Long in the west and Tai Po in the eat by way of bus 64K which runs regularly in both directions throughout the day.

Opening hours are 9.30pm to 5pm daily and entry fee HK$50 per adult and HK$35 per child aged 4-11. There is shuttle service to the upper section of the Kadoorie farm HK$30 per adult, HK$15 per child with regular service schedule for those interested in starting at the top and walking downward. Entry and shuttle tickets are purchased at the ticket office upon arrival.

Throughout the grounds, there are animal enclosures, many being rescued or orphaned animals including several important local species including muntjac (barking) deer and leopard cats along with raptor birds, parrots, aquatic animals and reptiles that are unable to survive in the wild and as such have become permanent residents and animal ambassadors. Animal enclosures have information about each animal, its name, age and how it came to become a Kadoorie resident.

You will also find a Farm Shop, many planted garden areas, walking paths alongside forested streams and lots of tranquil places to grab a seat, listen to the birds and just enjoy being in nature. Near the entrance there is a cafe, now called Eat Well, that served up vegetarian dishes and some drinks at affordable prices. There are several public toilets throughout Kadoorie as well.

Note: The Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden website is useful. You can learn what to expect there and also find a downloadable map that is worth a brief study and download onto your mobile phone to help you navigate your way around during your visit.‬

‪Getting to Kadoorie: If coming from HK Island, take the East Rail Line to Tai Wo station, take a green taxi to Kadoorie Farm.

Suggested itinerary at Kadoorie: Buy your ticket at reception and get a shuttle bus ticket at the same time, wait for the shuttle bus outside the entrance (comes every 15 mins), take the shuttle to Stop 4 (Kadoorie Brothers Memorial Haven).

From Kadoorie Brothers Memorial Haven, take the Sky Trail (45-60 mins) to T.S. Woo Memorial Haven (near Stop 5)

From there, take Enkianthus Walk until you get to the washrooms. From there, find the cobbled path along the stream all the way back down (approximately 60-90 mins). Note that you'll need to cross roads at times but the continuation of the cobbled path will always be found nearby on the other side of the road. Bring a walking stick!‬

‪The Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden is located in the valley along Lam Kam Road between Tai Po and Yuen Long and is most easily accessible by way of bus route 64K. Opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm daily and entry fees are HK$40 (adults) and HK$20 (children aged 5-11).

Note: The Kadoorie grounds are on the slope of a mountain. As such, you can purchase shuttle ticket (HK$10 per adult, HK$5 per child) and be driven to various drop off points from which you can walk back down to the entrance to the farm. Or take your time and walk upwards through the farm and garden grounds and take the shuttle back if you purchase ticket along with your entry fee.

This organisation is dedicated to nature conservation, rescue and rehabilitation of native animals, some of which are endangered or rarely seen and education about sustainable living. Particularly impressive are the efforts towards rescued animals. There are numerous facilities spread around the grounds, where you can view leopard cats, muntjac (barking) deer, bats, raptors, interesting reptiles and other animals in respectable enclosures. There is often information provided about the animals including names and ages if interested.

You will also find a lovely stream with surfaced walking paths and beautiful gardening and landscaping. This is a delightful area to walk and enjoy being in nature. Some benches and picnic spots can be found here and at other tranquil garden areas within Kadoorie as well.

There is an area dedicated to sustainable farming examples and education. You'll find a farm shop and cafe called the Sun Garden Cafe near the entrance. There are public toilets in various locations within the kadoorie grounds. Note, best to print or download the Kadoorie map and layout before setting off to explore as you will quickly learn how large of an area is included. It can be a bit tricky finding particular enclosures if you don't know your way around.

In the end, the location is a bit inconvenient of those in the city but the experience is rewarding for anyone who wants to spend 1/2 to 3/4 of a day in a valley countryside close to nature, especially a good option for those with children.‬

‪Interesting half-day trip. Got the 64K from Kam sheng bus station. Be careful not to get on the 64K going to yuen long west.  It is a hilly walk with many steps and is definitely not suitable to bring a buggy/stroller. Difficult to see many animals when we were there, it was sunny and animals were hiding in the shade mostly. But it is set in a lovely location. Also, in the upper parts, there are some places in the upper part near raptor cages that are quite dangerous for younger children who could easily fall over low wall and injure themself badly. It is a worthwhile place to visit for sure, but take  special care with small children.
