‪Site is actually CLOSED. Small note on gate says site is closed due to COVID had no information on when it was going to reopen (we visited OCT 2022).
Site is located a 1 Km walk from the Changi Chapel (well worth a visit) and overlooks the Changi airport.
For a historical site there is nothing worth seeing in person here. It has been closed since COVID and has yet to reopen. The photos on this site are better than the actual place now.
We made the walk from Changi Chapel to here to find it closed but asked some workers who were cleaning up for permission. The gun is FAKE, it's a replica and the only thing that is impressive is its sheer size. The trenches and tunnels that were once here are all filled in and sealed.
The place is very run down and not worth a visit unless you are into military history and want to see a site of what once was. On the plus the road overlooks a nice section of Changi airport, so the hour spent plane spotting afterwards was enjoyable.‬

‪Amazingly rundown for a historical site in Singapore. It was sad to see the area in this state. Visited it on the Changi WW11 War Trail coach tour. The Changi Chapel and Museum are still closed. The beach where the Changi massacre happened and that is normally visited on this tour has been replaced with a trek to a pier that overlooks Palau Ubin?? And to top it off we were dropped off/ stranded at Kranji MRT with a 1hr 10 min trip back to our hotel. No one was aware of this change in schedule so it was a bit of a shock. The only saving grace was the Kranji War Memorial which was very moving.

Big waste of time and money.‬

‪Another great piece of World War II history. A wonderful display that was enhanced by the knowledge of the staff.‬

‪The Johor Battery (or Johore in English) is a historic site where there were three monster guns; 15 inch cannons. It's very easy to get to. Take the MRT to Tanah Merah, hop of and cross the street in front of the station. Catch the number 2 bus, heading for Changi Point. You'll soon see Changi Museum and Changi Chapel on the right of the road. You can hop off here, visit the Museum and Chapel then continue on foot in the same direction as your bus was going. Turn right on Comport Road and walk a bit further, and there's the Johor Battery on your left. All up the walk from Changi Museum to the Johor Battery is a very shady, pleasant 15 or 20 minute walk suitable for all fitness levels. Alternatively, you can continue along Comport Road. It's a ring road and you can see a bit more of rural Singapore as you stroll along, ending back on the road with the number 2 buses.

There's what looks ironically like a Chinese taverna just next to the Johor Battery, and someone was there sweeping the concrete patio when I was there, so this place probably opens in the afternoon.

Be sure to bring along your hat, sun block cream and a waterbottle.

After visiting the Johor Battery you can retrace your steps and catch a number 2 bus back to civilization or catch a number 2 bus in the same direction as you were travelling and stop in beautiful Changi Point; home to restaurants ranging from basic to fancy... not to mention a really nice food centre full of friendly locals.

The original monster guns are gone now, but the government built a life sized replica of one of them, complete with the turret, in its original location. There are still underground tunnels all around the site, but no access is allowed. And there's a brick hut of sorts with several photos from the 1930s or 1940s, courtesy of the Imperial War Museum, showing one of the monster guns being attended by British Army gunners.‬

‪How this Battery was once magnificent and powerful as Monster Gun serving its time in World War days, is never the same meaning to the people today. Little descriptions are available at signboards. Located along off beaten long stretch of road, this Battery is being maintained at its minimum state. While what used to be structures of underground Tunnels, all have been completely filled up with soil, trying to be converted into vegetable garden. Next to this battery on the right, stands a local Asian restaurant. Pity that such historical landmark from war being left behind, remains a physical display.‬

‪This so called "attraction" is a sham and utterly devoid of historical value. I acknowledge the value of mock-ups that exhibit some level of fidelity to the actual historical artifact, but this camouflage-painted-tube-sticking-out-of-a-nondescript-rectangular-structure goes beyond the pale in terms of tackiness. Don't waste your time. It's shameful that it's even there.

It would have been more dignified to have an empty spot with a marker rather than have this abomination mar the integrity of the real structure.‬

‪I didn't really understand the importance of a 15-in gun in battle, until I saw and touched a replica of the gun used in defending Singapore. There were only seven such guns in the world and five were stationed in Singapore. This gun in Johore is massive, I think, even in this age of superlatives.

It was a good experience to see actual photos of British soldiers manning and cleaning a gun of this magnitude, and having a first hand touch and feel experience of its barrel and the ammo that goes into it. This was partly the reason Churchill referred to Singapore as an impregnable fortress. According to our tour guide, some people referred to this former British base as The Gibraltar of the East, just before the war started.

Sad to see, though, that the area is not so well-maintained, with rusted metal and uncut grass. It doesn't even have proper parking space for private vehicles.

Nonetheless, the experience in Johore Battery is memorable. Made all the more educational with good information provided by the tour guide from The Original Singapore Walks, such as angle of the gun's rotation, as well as the tilting limitations.

I recommend you to join their walking tours and not to visit Johore Battery by yourself. You need to understand the story behind the guns of Johore. You will appreciate it more, I guarantee.‬

‪I've wanted to visit this place for a really Long time. But it's off the beaten path and I never got an opportunity to go there. In comes my Friend from the Canadian Air Force and I thought it would be a cool place to take him to. After a Long walk along a narrow road all we got to see was a Long barrel which I could have just seen from the photos. Don't bother going there. If you are not a military enthusiast it will bore you. If you are , it will disappoint you. Either way it's a waste of time. ‬
