‪We had a fabulous day with Santiago on this day tour. We were successful viewing Condors and so much more. The landscape and birding above timberline was unlike any I have seen. It was so beautiful I cried. We enjoyed a tasty lunch. My husband experienced some high altitude sickness and Santiago drove us to lower elevation quickly where he recovered nicely. Thank you, Santiago!! We will join you again in the future.‬

‪Great trip!‬

‪A second half day trip with Santiago to see the hummingbirds in the Mindo area. What a delight. Again, Santiago pointed out the different birds, we felt tiny hummingbird feet on our fingers when they perched....what an experience! Delicious lunch. Santiago made sure we were able to see the birds as he identified them. Thank you, Santiago, we are looking forward to more trips with you.‬

‪The views were amazing, and we took so many photos of the birds. The guide was so knowledgeable about the area and the birds. His enthusiasm about the birds made the day so pleasurable. ‪Neotropical Nature and Birding led by Santiago Salazar provided us with one of the very best experiences we could have had at Yanachocha Reserve in Ecuador. Santiago has a wealth of experience guiding. He knows exactly when, where, and how to find birds! In addition Santiago is very interesting and pleasant to spend time with. We are very grateful to have had such a fine day together in an amazingly beautiful place.‬

‪Our Mindo tour was wonderful. Santiago Salazar is an outstanding birdwatching guide, and his local knowledge really made the tour exceptional. I recommend this full day tour and the cock-of the rock add-on option for any birdwatchers coming through the Mindo or Quito area. Great day!‬

‪Amazing Antisana‬

‪Our birdwatching tour through the Antisana highlands and park was the perfect finale to our Ecuador vacation. Santiago Salazar has an expert level of knowledge of all of the local avian species both by eye and ear which enabled us to ultimately view many bird species that we would have otherwise passed by. We were able to see a pair of Andean Condors to finish the tour, and recommend this tour to any wildlife, bird, or park enthusiast coming through Quito with a day to spare. A truly wonderful day!‬

‪A Dream Day with Condors and Hillstars‬

‪I just had the unforgettable experience of exploring Chakana Reserve with Santiago Zambrano, from Neotropical Nature and Birding Trips. My goal was to photograph Andean Condor, preferably the 'classic' eye-level flight shot, and the Ecuadorian Hillstar, hopefully a clear shot of this special species feeding on Chuquiraga flowers. I had faint hopes of seeing Spectacled Bear, but knew it was a long shot.
Everything about this trip, including the advice to go to Chakana in the first place, was exemplary. Gabriela, who managed the logistics, was prompt, friendly and thorough from start to finish. Santiago was a perfect guide: knowledgeable, flexible and helpful ( The air at 3,800 m is thin, and I'm not. Santiago was so supportive in getting a geezer with bad knees and heavy cameras into just the right spot).
This was a truly memorable experience, and I've been photographing wildlife since 1978. The Condors were awe-inspiring, the Hillstar is an absolute beauty and a very accommodating poser. There were plenty of other stunning birds too, like the Carunculated Caracaras and Andean Gulls, common at this location. We ended the day with a Crimson-mantled Woodpecker..a pretty good bonus bird. As a personal encounter with wild nature, this was simply the best. Recommended for anyone who loves wild places and creatures.‬

‪We started our birding at daybreak at a cock-of-the-rock lek. The birds were very vocal and easy to spot in the cloud forest canopy. It's difficult to describe the incredible experience. Afterward, Santiago took us to various locations to see an amazing number and variety of hummingbirds and colorful tanagers. Santiago is very knowledgeable about what is where and how to find it. We could not have had a better guide!‬

‪We had an amazing day with Santiago! We saw everything we came to see: Andean condors, Ecuadorian hillstars and, when we had almost given up hope, we saw a spectacled bear! But there was so much more! Santiago knew exactly where to find amazing bird species that we never knew existed. We had a million questions about everything from the ecosystems, the creatures and the people that call them home, to the food and Santiago answered all of them. His love for and knowledge of his natural surroundings shone through every response and we were very appreciative!‬

‪Santiago was an outstanding guide for our day trip into the Andes. He was friendly and easy to be around. His ecology knowledge was expert and yet he explained concepts to us in a way my 11-year-old daughter could understand. His SUV was super clean and comfortable. He took us to spots we never could have found on our own, making this tour well worth the price. Santiago went above and beyond to help us have an incredible experience. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful part of Ecuador with us!‬
