Our day with Santiago as our guide was absolutely fantastic! Santiago's extensive knowledge of the local wildlife made our experience unforgettable. Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions that made spotting certain birds challenging, Santiago's dedication to providing us with the best possible adventure was evident throughout. He went above and beyond to ensure that we had a remarkable day, demonstrating his commitment to delivering a memorable experience. In the end, he didn't just end our tour. He extended it by providing us with valuable tips on where we might encounter the elusive animals we couldn't find (due to the weather) during our further travels in Ecuador. This level of service and commitment made our tour truly exceptional.
Furthermore Gabriela from Neotropical Ecuador was amazing, as well. She provided fast and knowledgeable communication. Should I find myself returning to Ecuador and/or the Pantanal, there's no doubt that I'll choose Neotropical Ecuador again. Santiago and the team's dedication to providing a top-notch experience left a lasting impression. My only regret is not discovering them earlier in my vacation planning. If I had, I would have undoubtedly included more of their tours in my itinerary.
Furthermore Gabriela from Neotropical Ecuador was amazing, as well. She provided fast and knowledgeable communication. Should I find myself returning to Ecuador and/or the Pantanal, there's no doubt that I'll choose Neotropical Ecuador again. Santiago is a great guide, and we had a fabulous trip with him to see the Hillstars, Condors, and the Giant Hummingbird. Even though the bears had moved on in search of other food by the time we were there, he still looked for them. We got some great photographs of all the birds. It was a relaxing and fun day with Santiago. I would definitely go with him again!

ペルーのコルカキャニオンでコンドルを見たかったのですが、色々な理由め諦め、エクアドルでコンドルを見れるツアーがあったので参加しました。
朝5時のピックアップでコンドルがとまっている崖に行き、コンドルが飛び立ったり崖に降りてとまるところや、頭上を飛んでいくのを沢山見れました。双眼鏡を貸して貰えたので、双眼鏡でとても大きく見えて感動でした。
コンドルを是非見たい！という方にはとてもおすすめです。

I had an awesome time with Santiago visiting the Chakana Reserve and the Antisana National Park. He was super knowledgeable about the flora, fauna, and historical details of every part of the road we traveled. We got a great view of the condors, an andean ibis, a bunch of hummingbirds, some giant owls, and a bunch of other flowers and plants that were really amazing. He knew of a few secret places to look for some birds, which was pretty cool. We had a great lunch at a local spot whose owners are involved in the tagging and tracking of the various animals in the area. I would have loved more time to explore the Antisana area to just wander and hike around a bit more - but it will have to wait for another trip!

We did a day trip from Quito to Cotopaxi. Amazing day, amazing guide, and wonderful company. Cotopaxi tour did not disappoint at all, would recommend 10/10! Our guide Ana was super friendly, knowledgeable, and knew exactly where to take us to see what we wanted. We were interested in birds and she delivered! Ana's English is impeccable, and she even helped when we were trying to learn to say things in Spanish. Personally I enjoyed the descriptions and history involved, plus her knowledge of the local birds. Loved being able to drive up the side of the volcano also, and the lunch was delicious. Perfect pickup and drop off, they accommodated different points for each and very safe driving. Neotropical is an amazing company, we loved the trip and our guide.

Im Zuge unserer 14-tägigen Expedition mit Neotropical lernten wir auch das Quijos-Tal kennen. Unser Guide Santiago war fantastisch, wir sahen unglaublich viele Vögel, vor allem Kolibri-Arten, aber auch den berühmten Cock of the Rock (Anden-Felsenhahn). Rio Quijos Ecolodge war ein schöner Platz für den Anden-Motmot und den Gorgeted Woodstar. wir kamen mit fantastischen Fotos nach Hause. Die ganze Tour war jeden Dollar wert. Wenn irgend möglich kommen wir wieder ins wunderbare Ecuador!

Diese Tagestour nahe Quito war eines unserer vielen Highlights in Ecuador. Kondore in so einer Anzahl und unmittelbarer Nähe auf dem Kliff über den Brutplätzen waren ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Als Bonus gab es noch den Ecuadorian Hillstar, den Andenbär und viele weitere Hochland-Kolibris. Alles war perfekt organisiert, unser Führer Santiago war großartig, immer freundlich und kompetent und vor allem total engagiert. Wir kommen gerne wieder und würden die Tour nochmals machen!

I'm in Ecuador for work and wanted to get in one solid birding trip during an off day. A colleague recommended Neotropical Nature and Birding Trips by telling me it was founded by a fellow biologist who realized they didn't want to stay in academia and started this company. It really shows, because the people here definitely know their stuff!
When I messaged them to see if they had any availability at short notice, they did, for the hummingbird expedition the next day. I said I really wanted to see toucans, and Gabriela said my guide would know and take care of things. And she was right!
Dario was absolutely fantastic! He knew all the best spots to see specific species, he knew who to call about what birds have been active in which places, and he made sure we saw endemic species like the Toucan Barbet and Chocó Toucan. He knew every bird by sight and sound too. The hummingbirds were fantastic and plentiful, but we saw so many others as well. I never imagined I'd see an Antpitta so close, or 2 species of Quetzal! More than any other species, I wanted to see a Plate-billed Mountain Toucan. When we missed it at its regular spot, Dario didn't give up. He heard about a potential nest, so we went looking. And when our car couldn't make it up the road, he didn't give up then either. He scouted ahead for the nest and heard the toucans calling. And when we finally got one to come out of cover, it was such a triumph!!!
I didn't bring my camera with me, so I was happy to just see the birds without photos. But Dario brought his scope and at every turn offered to take photos for me through his scope with my phone! So thanks to him, I have Amazing photos and VIDEO of 5 species of Toucan, 12 Hummingbirds, Crested Quetzal, Yellow-bellied Antpitta, Golden-headed Quetzal, Toucan Barbet, Cock-of-the-rock, and so many gorgeous Tanagers!! And these photos and video are excellent!
I paid extra for the early pickup, and I think it's really worth it. They picked me up from my hotel in Cumbaya at 5, and it was a 2 hour drive to our first stop. I really don't think I would've seen as many species if I hadn't gone with the early-pickup option, especially not the super reclusive Antpitta. There is breakfast included with early pickup. They arranged a packaged to-go breakfast to eat in the car on the way there, and it was really tasty and filling! It included some sides I could snack on later in the morning too (apple, banana chips, oreos).
The lunch spot was delicious and had so many great options on the menu. Best part was it had big windows with bird feeders all around. I saw even more hummingbirds, Tanagers, and an Aracari while I ate lunch! It also has a nice overlook where you can look down on the Rio Blanco and the valley if it isn't too misty.
Overall my trip was excellent with 0 downsides. Absolutely everything was taken care of. Even something as small as me wanting a t-shirt as a souvenir, Dario knew a place where I could get one with some of the hummingbirds we saw that day! I saw every single bird I wanted to see, and some I didn't even think I would see!

We had a wonderful day of birding with Dario and Gabriella. We went to Amagusa Preserve where we saw amazing birds including a variety of tanagers, hummingbirds, antbirds, toucans, quetzals. In total we saw 77 new birds for the day. Dario has amazing talent for putting us on birds and knowing all the calls. Sergio who owns the preserve also walked with us down the road pointing out other great birds. Capped off the day seeing Andean cock-of-the-rocks and a lyre-tailed nightjar. Amazing trip!!!

We had an amazing birding trip to Chakana and Antisana with Dario and Gabriella. Saw more than ten Andean condors along with many other birds. Dario is a great guide who knew all the calls and put us on birds we never would have seen. Also included a great lunch at Tambo Condor. I could have stayed there all day watching the amazing hummingbirds at the feeders. We highly recommend this company!
