‪A Treasure Right in the City‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪At the time of our visit, the museum was closed but the archaeological park was open (it was funny that even on the ground in Cuenca there was confusion about whether or not the museum was open. Every person we talked to gave a different answer).

What a treasure to have so conveniently located in the city. We followed the river southeast until we got to the Broken Bridge, then we took stairs up to Calle Larga and continued from there to Pumapungo. Entrance is free.

Follow the path through the ruins, reading placards in both Spanish and English along the way. The deeper in you get, the cooler the site is. You’ll even find llamas grazing on the mound (tied in place) and at the end is an aviary with neato Ecuadorian birds. The parrots were extra feisty!‬

‪Very interesting museum, they have terraces with historical constructions, even with birds. Very recommended for visit if you have time in Cuenca. Sometimes they have temporary installations‬

‪Sadly the museum was closed due to Covid until further notice. Wish they had the info on their site for less disappointment. Funny how other small museums are all open and functional.‬

‪Free and Very Interesting and Peaceful‬
ديسمبر 2020
‪We spent a lovely afternoon touring the museum and grounds. Admission is free, but we did need to sign in with the guard (this is during the pandemic). Inside are some nice displays about Old Cuenca and how the park came to be and lots of cultural information including stories of the Inca residents of the area and the indigenous people of Ecuador. The park is very pretty and serene, right in the heart of the city, and there is a lovely collection of parrots and other birds and even some grazing llamas. A great way to spend an afternoon. You could just bring a book ad sit in the park and enjoy. Also inside is the money museum, how Ecuador used first colonial Spanish coins, then its own currency, and finally the US dollar. Some information (not all) is offered in English as well as Spanish.‬

‪Potentially interesting museum‬
أبريل 2020
‪A well kept museum with nice presentations. Only problem is that you have to use your imagination as to what is being presented. There are almost no signs along with the displays (in any language). Beautiful dioramas and models leave you guessing as to the stories they tell. Hopefully enough reviews like this one will get their attention. But enjoy a pleasant walk around the manicured grounds where llamas roam.‬

‪A free museum offering the history of Ecuador along with archeological sites and gardens to walk through. The museum presents the geographical areas of Ecuador and the culture, clothing, customs and traditions from each area. From the Amazon to the Galápagos Islands there is a scene, hut or house from each area for all to see.
Outside are gardens, archeological sites and an aviary ( was closed for renovation) you can venture through. Very impressive though most of the signs inside were in Spanish so we weren't quite sure what some things were! Didn't stop us from enjoying it. Well worth a visit! ‬

‪Exploring Cultural Things‬

‪Pumapungo is a museum of the Ecuadorean culture and history. You can literally spend days exploring all of the exhibits. Beautifully displayed, they tell the story of all of the different people and cultures that came and settled in Ecuador. This museum is extremely informative and very delightful. It’s clearly a must see in Cuenca for any explorer.‬
