‪We tried to call twice but the guy who answered the phone hung up when we asked for the cooking class. We also sent an email and got the response that the email adress doesn't exist.‬

‪Couldn´t have enjoyed ourselves more! David collected us from the hotel and took us round the local market to get an idea of the extraordinary range of Peruvian food. Great English, really friendly and informative. Then off to meet Hermenegilda and Jose at their restaurant. We were led gently to produce a full Peruvian menu - in our case cerviches, lomo saltado and Peruvian doughnuts, which we then ate with great gusto! Followed by Jose showing us how to make wonderful (and enormous) pisco sours. They made us feel very welcome. Thoroughly recommended and tremendous value‬

‪Great cooking class. Very informative and delicious food. Trip to the market was marginal and we could have skipped it. Our guide was very quiet but nice. We later learned she was sick (fortunately neither my husband or I became sick after spending 4 hours with her). Pisco sour making pretty basic and was at the end of the class. The actual cooking class was the highlight of the evening and well worth the price.‬

‪Let's start with the positive:
-They picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel
-Market tour was great, informative, and fun
-English-speaking guide (David) was very friendly and made the market tour and fruit tasting (during dessert) very fun
-Cooking class was pretty good. Worked with Herme, who is very sweet. She doesn't speak any English. She is a good chef.
-Food was not very complicated. Good for beginners.
-Learned about Arequipa food, in particular
-Cost included all taxis, fruit, food, and instruction
-Private class (just the two of us)

Negative:
-We booked this through our hotel (Libertador) and they told us it was going to be 75 Soles per person (150 in total)
-When we were leaving the restaurant and about to head back to the hotel, the son asked us how much the hotel quoted us (making it seem that they don't have standardized prices) and when I said 150 Soles, he said that that was per person. I ended up paying the 300 Soles (but the hotel later refunded me the 150 in excess of what they had told me)
-The kitchen isn't super clean‬

‪The trip to the markets with Melissa and cooking class after with Paulo was truly one of our top highlights in our 3 month trip in South America. This experience was food for the mind, body and soul.

Melissa shared some of the history and culture of Arequipa and how it sets itself apart from the rest of Peru on our trip to the markets. We learned the names of many many vegetables, fruits and cooking staples in English, Spanish and Quechua. We also learned about some of the more bizarre concoctions and their significance and health benefits to the local people. Having Melissa guide us around broke the ice with the locals and allowed us to converse with the stallholders. Of course, having our 2.5 year old with us, absorbing everything like a sponge and chatting away also assisted!

Paulo and Melissa really challenged us when we arrived at the kitchen, asking us to match pictures of the fruits and vegetables we had seen with their local names. Paulo is clearly a master in the kitchen, loves his trade and is very patient sharing his skills, particularly with us with our toddler in tow!

It was a long and exhausting morning but we felt all the richer for this wonderful experience with two of the kindest people we have ever met. Our toddler talked about it for a few weeks after and was even making a 'chilli sauce' with the little orange ear plugs on the plane on our way home to Australia!

Thank you so much Melissa and Paulo!‬

‪Five friends took Arequipa's cooking classes in May this year. This is a very special experience with a family run business. They put their energy, hearts and souls into the business. They are very efficient with email and bookings. We booked two weeks ahead. Max six students. They will give you all the prices and time frames. This was a very reasonably priced activity. (pay cash Soles, bring water bottles) We did the market tour, cooking class and Pisco sour lessons. Highly recommend to do all three for full experience. (includes taxis).
Our hosts Melissa, Paulo and Herme did a fantastic job. Melissa met us at our hotel. We did an english speaking walking tour to the market. Lot of great information on Arequipa and the market, very fun! We then met Paulo at the end of the market tour and took taxis to the cooking class. There we meet Herme (Paulo's mother) "mama" who also is an exec. chef at Chicha por Gaston Acurio. (wow!) She is a marvellous chef who was patient with all our fun and games along the cooking process. We learned a lot and had A LOT of fun. Communication is not an issue. Melissa speaks excellent english, Paulo is learning! (Keep up the good work!) and Herme uses signs, hands and facial expressions to communicate her message. We had a little bit of Spanish in our group so overall it was an enriching experience on both sides. We learned about cooking, Arequipa, music, Peruvian Candelaria dancing complete with costumes and more about Gaston Acurio. We then walked all the way back to hotel in el Centro - happy stuffed little piggies! (we declined the complimentary taxi)

We absolutely recommend their cooking class!!
Thank you Melissa, Paulo and Herme for a great day.‬

‪We visited Arequipa's cooking classes in May this year. Our host Melissa, Paulo and Herme were great and made this a very special experience on our Peru trip. We started with a market tour which was excellent and Melissa was giving us a lot of background information, not only for food. Even though the Chef Herme did not speak a lot of English it was not a prolbem as Melissa was tranlating most of the time. The food was excellent and we really learned a lot.

we can absolutely reocmmend their cooking class!!

‪We met the most friendly people in Arequipa on this adventure. They picked us up from our hotel to take us on a market tour and then spent 3 hours with us making ceviche, stuffed peppers, loma saltado, donuts, and pisco sours. The team was incredibly friendly and a lot of fun. This was a very reasonably priced activity and it included a wonderful lunch. The people though made this an activity worth doing.‬

‪After doing my research I chose this company because their food seemed a bit more elevated than some of the other classes I saw, but not overly fancy by any means (as some other companies seem to be), so if that's the kind of food you want, then look no further.

As for the class, we booked months in advance, and they were extremely efficient with communicating throughout the process. Unfortunately, on the day of our class, we were told the chef had some personal matters to attend to, but fortunately we were able to reschedule for another day (just a tip in case you need it-- contacting the phone number on their Facebook page seems to work better than the number on their website). Then, on the rescheduled day, we ran into bad traffic getting back from Colca Canyon, so we were then late, but Paolo was extremely accommodating and waited at our hotel for us. By this time the market was closed, but Paolo was again fantastic and had a wide variety of fruits for us to sample during the class, so he in essence brought the market to us. So, in spite of all the unforeseen craziness, everything worked out, we learned a ton about the food (we did the Andean menu with quinoa, tamales, Alpaca, etc.), left with full and happy bellies, and had an amazingly unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this company!‬

‪I had a remarkable 2.5 hour cooking experience in a well equipped patio kitchen, with four other students. Our teacher was well organized with good quality food ready for preparation. She was both light hearted and focused. We prepared food together and then enjoyed the feast . All the recipes were emailed after completion of the class.
Great learning, good in, great value.‬
