‪1) The tour starts early with pick-up at hostel between 3:00-3:30 am. We waited outside from 3am and the pick-up arrived around 3:20.
2) After some sleep we arrived to cruz del condor 8am, where we waited 40 minutes until we finally saw a juvenile condor flying very close to the mirador! Far away there were three more condors.
4) We drove to a place where you can hire walking sticks (3 soles), use the toilets and leave stuff you don't want to walk with.
5) 10am the walking started. Steep down. We were told to walk in our own pace, so we did walk calmly since we didn't know we were supposed to walk more than the 1200m downhill during the day. Not very much information about the day, but interesting facts about the area today and in the history.
6) Lunch was at a quiet place with cute and cozy cats. Quinoa soup, rice, egg and avocado for me as a vegetarian. It all was tasty, and the lady owning the place was super cute.
7) After lunch we were suddenly in a hurry, the guide was walking very fast and the whole group (10 people) had to walk together. Being the last in the group meant you almost never had time for breaks (drinking water, putting sun screen on, removing stones from the shoes, catching the breath, etc), you often missed what the guide was telling the others. We were passing a lot of fruit trees, I loved when we could stop and try them! Beautiful scenaries which I didn't have time to take photos of. In the end we were ahead of the time schedule, so I really don't understand what the hurry was all about. Approximately 1h flat, 1h up and 1h downhill.
8) At the hostel Tropical we had to wait 2,5-3h for dinner which was served 7:30pm. They had a cold but refreshing pool with nice sunset. Cheap drinks in the bar. The dubble room was full of mosquitos and had no mosquito net or other mosquito protection. Very simple room, not clean at all, a lot of the other guests told us their lamps were not working. But the sheets kept us warm.
9) After a short sleep we started the climb at 4:40am and we were told by the guide that it's very important to finish the climb in 3 hours (even though we were told by the agency it should be 4 hours). Again, I have no idea what this rush was about, but we finished the climb in 3 hours, walked the last 20 minutes to the town and ate breakfast and waited for a very long time for the bus.
10) At our way back to Arequipa we made a few stops: Viewpoint of Colca canyon. Hot springs (I regret I got into the hot water, or that I didn't go into the cold river. Even though I was in the coldest pool I still felt overheated, and it just got worse in the car without air-condition). Viewpoint of volcanos. Lunch buffet (not optional and not included) vegetarian food was potatoes and vegetables, not a single protein source. Even the quinoa salad was full of meat. The agency told us it was 20 soles each, but at the restaurant they charged us 30. Stop to see Alpackas, but with 20 tourists running towards them they quickly ran off, and all we could see was their butts. We saw lots of Vicuñas from the bus, but we could never stop for photographs.

11) Summary:
- Unnecessary stress while walking, combined with long waiting times after the walks. But the guide was knowledgeable and kind.
- The not-included stuff like the hot springs and lunch buffet (45 soles) was not worth it.
- The walk, the mountains, the canyon - it's all incredible beautiful and I'm very happy we did it. And I very much like all the alpackas and vicuñas you could see on the way back to Arequipa. ‬

‪the price they had for the colca canyon trek was very cheap but beware!!!! as the guide started our tour late b'cos he took SOOOOOO long to "change" his clothes then rushed us & i got left behind b'cos i was too slow putting on my ponsho when it rained & this is where the trek got really scary as mudslides began to occur when it started to rain heavily & b'cos i got left behind another tour guide from another group kindly waited for me but asked me to quickly run across the mud slides that were occurring all along the canyon we were trekking where i was then hit by a large rock on the back of my ribs!!! this fractured my ribs & my guide was still no where to be found & when he was he didn't even offer to help me at all!!! none of the guides even bothered to help carry my backpack or helped me with the rest of the trek even though i was seriously injured.....instead a wonderful & kind american tourist from another trekking group waited for me & the other tour guide when he saw what happened & gallantly insisted on carrying my backpack AND helping me the remainder of the way. i was nearly in tears by this time from the pain, cold & wet!!! we had to part since we were going to different "hut villages" but he made my tour guide promised to take care of me but upon reaching the little village, the tour guide kept me in the rain longer cause he was figuring out which hut i was in & then promptly left me on my own to shiver in extreme cold & pain. no 1st aid was given to me or any dry towels & i wasn't even checked or made sure to see i didn't go into shock which i did later on from the cold, pain & lack of warmth since everything i brought along was wet & there was no hot shower there or electricity in the hut. when i asked for a dry towel at the least, he said i needed to pay for it & a mule back up the canyon since i obviously couldn't trek back up the nex morning....i didn't bring enough money for all these but one would think that if a tourist was injured on the trek the company or guide would do all he could do get me medical attention or at least help me get warm & dry!!! it was up to me & my own devices to survive a very cold, painful night shivering under the hut's blanket. i was in so much pain i could not get out of bed to even go to the dining hall to have dinner.....my calls for help from my room went unnoticed my the passing outside my hut that i was calling to......luckily after 1.5 hr my guide came back to check on me & then helped me to the dining hall...kudos to him for doing so & lending me his jacket since i was sooooo cold!!! luckily a kind couple there also lent me a dry shirt & pair of socks!!! muchos gracias roberto & adam!!! i couldn't believe the guide wasn't equipped with even a basic 1st aid kit or knowledge!!!! u would think on such a dangerous & remote trek like this they would be!!! i wrote an email of complaint to the travel company since they were closed when i got back the next day but they never responded or replied. i know i paid a low price for this tour but one would expect at least basic help & care from my guide in getting warm & receiving some medical aid!!! they wouldn't even cover the cost of the mule to get me out of the canyon even though i was injured on their watch b'cos of lack of attention & care from the guide in regards to my safety whilst dangerous mudslides were going on. in my opinion the trek should have been stopped when the guides saw how dangerous the mudslides were getting. even after i was injured it was their/his duty to help me with my backpack & helping me the rest of the way, not that of other kind tourists & samaritans!!! at the end of the tour they couldn't even drop me back to my hotel & still made me walk back from the plaza de armas with my fractured ribs & wet heavy backpack!!! wow...... ‬

‪In April I did a four day Community Trek with Andina Travel. It was part of a group tour. Our main guide was Piero Leon Rodriguez. Unfortunatelly I can't remember the names of the other two guides. But they were all amazing. They gave us a lot of insider information and always looked out for everyone in the group. The two nights of camping were very well organized and the food was very good as well. I can only recommend this tour to everyone who likes hiking and the outdoors.‬
