The best in Cusco for tourists to learn Spanish, good atmosphere, good instructors, there is family warmth and a colonial and welcoming landscape in the center of Cusco that facilitate a pleasant stay and easy learning, it is highly recommended to visit it at the entrance to the neighborhood of San Blas.

Lovely language school in a great location. My partner took intermediate lessons and they were incredibly beneficial. However, I would think twice about taking lessons if you are already relatively fluent as the school didn’t appear to be particularly well equipped to deal with students at this level.

Studied Beginner Spanish for 4 Weeks, June 2019
Small & Friendly
San Blas Escuela is a really nice small and friendly language school in the heart of the Cusco old town San Blas. The school is not one of those big, loud, language schools, with so many rooms you cant find your class or the toilet!
Teaching
My beginner classes were on the smaller size, which is nice if there are just a few of you, and you get a very personalised tuition. The teachers are a very close group, who like to laugh and smile a lot and seem to really enjoy where they are working and helping you learn this great language!
Relaxing
There is a simple a central lounge/kitchen area to make a tea or coffee and relax with others students and the friendly teachers whilst waiting for class to start.
Cheap Local Meals
There is a very good range of cheap meals and filling shakes available 5 minutes away at the local San Blas Mercado. Many students and teachers would go there for lunch.
Accommodation
The accommodation they provide is either with a host family or in some apartments directly above the school. I'm older and quite independent, so I decided to share an apartment and cook my own meals. It was great to have the school right there and not have to travel each day, and i could run upstairs and make my own coffee at break time!
Great Location
Centrally in the old town, easily walkable from the Plaza de Armas, plenty of buses and connections nearby, no need to have transport worries. Cusco is well connected but obviously this is Peru and South America so its definitely a 'bit crazy' working out what buses to catch, so the less/simpler the better.
It was nice to be able to spend my afternoons walking into the city and around the local mountains from my base at the school. All this independence did mean however i missed out on full language immersion that you get when staying with a local family, which i do really see can benefit the speed of learning and be fun too!
Activities.
During my stay there was a Salsa beginner class, but overall i didn't see many weekly activities being on offer. It is a small school and so it would be more work from limited staff to arrange activities, but also students can meet and arrange things a bit more easily as its smaller and more personal, so I think its good you are left to yourself a bit more. It's definitely nice you are not pushed to join in what can be quite expensive activities, and with others when you might not want to spend time with outside class.
Organised
Manfred is a very welcoming and a highly organised head of the school, very helpful with all aspects of your study and stay, always looking to make your time a positive experience. He discussed with me details of how i might get to out of town attractions and places, even walking with me to make sure i got my collectivo (minibus) to some nearby ruins!

Manfred was quick to respond to my last minute text for 5 days of group lessons. He sorted things for me quickly and before I knew it I was in class having fun. Miguel is a fantastic teacher with a patient and kind manner. Unfortunately I fell ill on day 2 and had to miss day 3. Manfred was quick to help and sort me out the following day with shorter private lessons at no extra cost. My remaining days with Hans were set at a good pace for me. Yet another fine Spanish teacher with a great personality. I highly recommend this Spanish school in the heart of the beautiful San Blas area!

Excellent trip. I would recommend this trip to others who enjoy traveling. I traveled during the winter but it was quite lovely because, though cold at night, the days were very warm.

ממליצה בחום לגמרי סידר לי את הראש !
גם אחרי כמה חודשים ארוכים בדרום אמריקה לגמרי היה הכרחי ונחוץ הספקתי לעשות שש שעות של ספרדית והשיעורים היו מעולים

I had an excellent experience taking private lessons at the San Blas Spanish School. The two best features were the qualified and attentive instructors, and the way they structured the lessons to meet my goals.
I took lessons for a total of six weeks, 10-hours per week. Prior to the classes, I had taken Spanish in high school (20+ years ago), and I had taken two weeks of private and group Spanish lessons about a year earlier. I remember being confused about conjugation and irregular verbs in the past, but things really came together at San Blas, and I finally felt like I could actually speak Spanish in conversation, rather than feeling like I was always translating my thoughts from English to Spanish.
The instructors did a great job of tailoring the lessons to my needs, while also introducing new grammar. Things never felt too fast or too slow. Each week we kept moving forward, covering more advanced grammar, while always spending plenty of time speaking to reinforce what I had learned.
One good thing about spending a lot of time speaking is that I learned a lot of the culture of Cusco and Peru in general. Our conversations covered a wide range of topics, from history to politics to philosophy to just modern day life, and differences between North and South America. I was happy to be able to engage in "real" conversations, rather than just doing examples from workbooks.
I would definitely recommend the school to anyone. I didn't have a single negative experience, and most importantly, I feel immeasurably more comfortable with the Spanish language than I did when I started.

My husband and I attended San Blas separately - he took beginner Spanish and I had daily two hour tutoring sessions one on one. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant to do one on one classes because it felt like more pressure, but it was fantastic! Gladys was awesome, so patient and so helpful. We talked about so many topics beyond the Spanish language and I left with a much deeper appreciation of Peruvian highland culture and much more information about Cusco specifically. I would highly recommend to anyone staying in Cusco for an extended period of time (5+ days), since it will complement any hiking or outdoor activity you’re doing!

San Blas school is great! The instructors are all very knowledgeable and helpful. The course material is taught in a clear manner with a lot of guidance. If you need to reschedule or move your dates around they are very accommodating. I also did a home stay through the school and it was wonderful! I hope to return next year :)

My Spanish knowledge before coming to San Blas spanish school was really a mix of vocabulary that I learned via duolingo App. During my one week with Gladys, I could really feel how i improved every day and when the week was over I felt secure enough to haggle with an old woman for an alpaca sweater in Spanish.
Gladys was very professional and patient with us. The classes were well structured and we learnt alot of grammar. When we did not understand something, Gladys did not switch to English but tried to explain it in Spanish to show us we can understand it. You could also see that she enjoyed teaching and gave it her heart and soul - we laughed a lot in class and had a great time together!
Another thing worth mentioning is the very professonal welcoming. I was asked to complete a placement test prior to starting the lessons and I had the feeling that the classes were put together quite well according to the level of spanish proficiency.
All in all, I can recommend San Blas Spanish school to anyone wishing to improve their Spanish while travelling South America:) I wish I could have continued

Thanks for your review. What did you do when you weren't in class? My daughter is planning on 2 hours/day of one on one Spanish instruction but doesn't know what she'll do the rest of the day.

Hi David, we live in Cusco so our time outside of school was spent learning to pay bills, grocery shopping, setting up our apartment, adjusting to our new life, etc. There are plenty of things to do in Cusco like museums, tours, ruins, etc. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
