Of course this is one of the most famous places on Norfolk Island for a sad reason. The grass area where cars park, is where twenty years ago the only murder victim in 200 years or something's body was found. There is no memorial or even mention of that here.
The falls themselves aren't great if you're only going to walk to where an expensive looking wooden boardwalk has been built you'll leave pretty disappointed. In fact you can't really even see them from there. You do walk past two small creek rapids I guess you'd call them. You want to walk over (I did this when there hadn't been much rain, if it's been raining I guess you might want to do a safety evaluation first) the rocks of one of those to the other side of the creek. There you follow a "goat trail" where you can see the waterfall that's underneath the side of the boardwalk auite well. Depending on your agility you can also scramble down the dirt/grass cliffs and rocks to the base of that waterfall. Remember for this and the main waterfall though, if you fall, it might be hours, or even days before anyone else comes down to that area and finds you. Not one other person went anywhere besides the boardwalk while I was there.
But the main falls you'll need to turn away from those falls and walk fifty meters or so to the cliff overlooking the ocean (Cascade Bay). Once there to your left you'll see the water flowing (well trickling) over the large rocks and onto the smaller rocks which are also being plummeted by the waves. To get a decent photo of them, you'll need to walk on even less established grass trails. It is actually quite dangerous to do this, you've got to know how to do this sort of thing. As under the long grass could be a dirt, hole, rock or nothing at all. You can venture along the same dangerous well there really isn't a path anymore but towards Cascade Pier to get better shots.
You can easily walk here from Burnt Pine. Took me less than half an hour and I'm not a fit guy. I walked from the Seaview Norfolk Island turning right at the roundabout on New Cascade Road, instead of turning left at the police station as you would to go to the National Park walks, I kept going along New Cascade Rd until I got to Harpers Road. It's all downhill from there, you get to a dirt road where you can see a bridge called Prince Phillip Drive (there is a sign pointing with Cocktail Falls there), you cross the bridge and see an unnamed with no information dirt road going off that to the right. You are unsure if you should walk down it or keep going up the hill that begins after that road. Thankfully your decision to give that road a go, turns out to be correct as you arrive at that grass carpark where the body was found.

Only a small waterfall with a nice boardwalk to view the waterfall.
Parked the car not far away as would have been too muddy to drive all the way.
Lucky enough to see it from the sea on a scenic cruise around the Island.

Possibly a fav place on the island. Very scenic and as we had had some rain the waterfall/s were flowing nicely. Boardwalk is easy to get too and if you feel like following the cows tracks you can get a birdseye view back over the stream, waterfall, 2nd waterfall and surrounding cliffs.

I'm a sucker for a good waterfall so we decided to go see this. We did struggle to work out where to go from the map we had, but eventually worked it out. Due to mobility issues, we only viewed it from the boardwalk, which was a bit disappointing. If you could clamber down further you would get a much better view of the waterfall....but the whole area was quite pretty and just another nice, quiet spot to visit on Norfolk.

We walked along the boardwalk to the viewing platform to take in the Falls. It had rained recently so there was a reasonable flow. However, the viewing platform is poorly positioned. Take the effort to navigate across the creek and walk along the cattle paths on the opposite side to the boardwalk.
We were able to clamber along the hillsides to the cliff edge. We even managed to scramble down to the ocean-edge to see the water fall onto the rocks.

The waterfall is only a trickle for the majority of time, but is a short pleasant and accessible walk to viewing platform. Taking the rough trail downstream is a good short diversion for more of the landscape and coast. In the parking area is a seat with a plaque in memory of the location where the body of Janelle Patton was found. Janelle, a 29-year-old Sydney woman was murdered on Norfolk Island on 31 March 2002, the first murder in 150 years.

We were travelling in October and the weather had been rather dry so when we drove out to see the waterfall it was more a drizzle than a waterfall!
However just to see the view of the coast and the countryside surrounding it made the drive well worth while. A timber walk way has been built out so that if there was a waterfall you would get a good view of it.

We saw Cockpit Waterfall on a map and asked the lady at the Information Centre about it.
She said that it hadn't run for six years until recently. She also told us not to be disappointed as you really can't see the main waterfall unless you are in a boat as they fall over a cliff into the ocean.
We did go out there and it was a nice spot. There is a walkway that projects out over the first drop. Others there at the same time had ventured out to the cliffs edge but that wasn't for us. Times like these it would be great to have a drone.

We were very dissappointed with this as it was dry as anything due to the lack of rain on the island for months. I am sure that it is beautiful after heavy rains.

We came here just after it had been raining for a few days and thought there would be lots of water going over the falls. The dirt road to the waterfall are just ends and you park wherever you like. There is a newly built viewing platform that ends at the top of the falls! You cannot actually see the waterfall. Very disappointing! If the platform had been built a few more metres along the hill, you would have got views of it. I think the only way to see the falls would be to cross over the rock area at the top and follow the goat track around the hills. Not for the feignthearted. There maybe another way over the hill from further down the road. The actual area at the top of the falls is nice. Good for a picnic.
