On our second tour of Walled City our guide Javed showed us this interesting building near Masjid Wazir Khan. It is a grey structure located on the right side of the Chitta Darwaza. The Baoli or well of Dina Nath is situated on the Shahi Guzargah or the Royal Trail. This well was one of the public benefit projects of Diwan Dina Nath. The residents of the walled city had to depend on the subsoil water till the British built the Lahore Water Works. Dina Nath was a Kashmiri Pundit who worked as a Diwan or finance minister in Ranjit Singh's Court. He was a highly respected member of the society. You can see many other buildings built by him here like the Haveli and Gardens of Dina Nath. He built this well near his haveli, which is located in the adjoining lane. The WCAL is currently doing some restoration on this building. This well was famous because of it's sweet water. I was amazed to find out that most of the walled city hakims used this water to prepare their medicines. Such unique buildings always fascinate me.
