We went expressly to see the Sadequain paintings (which were stunning- I would highly highly recommend) but the money museum was also mesmerizing. Staff were very helpful and kind. Thank you for a good experience

Located in the Business district of Karachi, it is the only museum of its kind in Pakistan that offers an insight to creation of money, its printing, circulation, regulation of Pakistani Currency - the Rupee. It has in its display all notes that are or were in circulation including a vast collection of current and historic coins. History of the central Bank, pictures of its inauguration, speeches of the Quaid, original treaties, documents, manuscripts, details of Governors, and historical desks, rooms and artefacts including an original gold weighing scale, note sorter, etc are on display
Commemorative coins issued by the State Bank are also on display. A separate section on stamps and original collection of the famous calligraphist Sadequain, who in early days worked for State bank are also on display in different galleries. A souvenir shop sells replicas of artefacts too.
The building itself is impressive that was built before the creation of Pakistan and housed the Imperial Bank of India. It is a grotesque structure made in pink Jaisalmeer stone that was brought in from Rajasthan. It has a grand entrace and is open to all. A lot of students visit the place where they have conducted tours too. Though the building is located on the mani Chundrigar Road with large D shaped garden and grand driveway but entrance is from a security gate on the side Mumtaz Hasan Road.

If you are in Karachi alone, with friends or with family State Bank of Pakistan museum is a must visit place.
Immerse yourself in the history of Money, Currency, Coins and banking. There is always a contemporary exhibition on display. The gem of the museum not directly related to Money is the historical painting by Saadqain.
Another feature is a small budding artist corner, which provides a perspective of on contemporary artists.

Fantastic experience of visiting this place which I will rate as the best Museum in Pakistan. It's located on the main road and there are couple of paid parking areas in the vicinity which you should avail. The staff is courteous and particularly Mr. Beezan is not only knowledgeable but genuinely interested in showing your around and making your visit worthwhile. It's divided into Money, Stamps and coins. There are wonderful aspects of monetary history of Pakistan and the general world that I came to know only when i visited this excellent place. Souvenir shop sells many good items at a reasonable price. Highly recommended and must visit place in Karachi

I loved the museum. It manages to offer its visitors a complete journey through the history of currency, from the ancient clay seals in South East Asia to our modern coins and bills worldwide (it not only features Pakistani currency but European and south american, for example). Plus, there are beautiful artworks by famous Pakistani artist Sadequain . If you love art and history as i do, don't miss this. //
Thanks from Lima, Peru.

Mainly a money museum, the museum includes a beautiful art gallery on the mezzanine floor paying tribute to Sadequain, a famous artist of Pakistan. The museum is very well maintained and is at par with international standards. Apart from the evolution of money, it also has a collection of stamps from different countries. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday and it is preferable to visit it through a taxi or rent-a-car as parking is an issue in the area. As per their website, you can request for a parking space in the premises.

Extremely educational and well maintained. The coin collection dates back from Alexander the Great plus it has come extraordinary contemporary collections. Iranian currency after the revolution worth looking at. Truly worth visiting while in Karachi

Numismatic museums are not my forte but is one is particularly interesting in its layout and treasure throve of items on display. Care has been taken in having special displays items for blind persons and tours geared for Children. On the upper floor central hall there are huge frescoes by Sadequain on both side, on one side a smaller room showing some of his smaller artwork and on the other a striking and very large painting of Sadequain by Zahoor Akhlaq.
Caveat, it is difficult to gain access to this museum being in the Pakistani National Bank enclosure.

We were lucky to have look from outside on this prestigious institute now museum of the country.Constructed with red stone like other British era buildings in this city. This museum once office of State Bank of Pakistan is on I.I Chundrigar road (Previously Mcleod Road the road,it has become very busy with mainy tall buildings of banks around. On its side is "Karachi city" Railway station at little distance. But the museum building stands as outstanding structure among cement/concrete built sky scrappers.Four column facade of entrance is like Greek old buildings in Greece. We could view it from outside only because of car parking problem.Me and my son returned with a promise in our mind to re-visit it.All visitors are advised to come by taxi or other mode of transport because of lack of parking area.
