‪It’s quite a climb, but it’s worth it. View over Luangprabang is magnificient. You het a good overview on the area. On th way, there are a lot of statues to admire. ‬

‪Awesome views of Luang Prabang and its rivers!‬
يناير 2020
‪At the heart of Luang Prabang's Old Quarter peninsula, right between the rivers Mekong and Nam Kham, you will find "Phou Si Mountain", also mentioned as "Mount Phousi". Before going, check the weather and the visiting hours carefully and be aware that 328 steps await your climbing. If you are still going, awesome views of Luang Prabang and its rivers will reward your efforts. While climbing, a serie of temples and chapels will be on your way, as the famous shrine of "Wat Tham Phou Si" (with a big bellied Buddha image placed in a grotto) and, at its top, "That Chom Si" (a golden sacred stupa). "Phou Si Mountain" is quite popular among tourists and locals for sunrise and sunset viewings, so be ready for crowds. There are effectively three entrances to "Phou Si Mountain", but the main one is located in front of the "Royal Palace National Museum". Enjoy!‬

‪Worth the long climb, especially at sunset‬
يناير 2020
‪Mount Phu Si is the highest point in Luang Prabang and therefore provides a wonderful 360 degree view of the town and surrounding area. The name, pronounced "Poo See", means 'Sacred Hill', so you should consider what to wear when visiting, out of respect.

There are two stairways leading to the top, and I made the mistake of going up and down by the same route. The one I used begins on the main road, opposite the Royal Palace Museum, while the other begins by the Nam Khan River. I chose my route up because I was aware of the crowds that gather at the top for the sunset views and wanted a good spot at the front. I came back down the same way as it leads straight into the Night Market. My advice would be to set off earlier and go up via the Nam Khan route.

As I already mentioned, it does get crowded before sunset, so it would be worth setting off around 90 minutes early. This would allow you time to take in the places of interest on the way up, yet still grab a good viewing point. The route I took was around 330 steps (I lost count at one point) but is not too arduous of you take it easy and stop from time to time. I am 67 and had no problems.

The cost is 20,000 Kip and, while that sounds a lot, with the huge exchange rate, it only equates to around £1.70 UK, or $2.20 US. Well worth it for the view and general experience. Do be aware of the crowds though, as many can be quite disrespectful, not only of the religious nature of the site, but also for the consideration of others.‬

‪Busy at sunset‬
نوفمبر 2019
‪The view of Luang Prabang from the top of Mt Phousi is beautiful. It gets very crowded at sunset. The one thing I was disgusted by was the behaviour of other tourists which spoiled the experience somewhat. People were actually shouting at other people if they deemed that these people had got into their shot, clearly forgetting that we were in a temple. I would say that going earlier in the day would therefore be better.‬

‪Arrive early for sunset‬

‪There is a great view of the river from the top of Mount Phousi. It does get really busy at the top - so arrive early to get a great spot for sunset. Well worth a visit!‬

‪Busy and unimpressive - good views of town‬
يناير 2020
‪A relatively tough 290-step climb leads you through the temple complex to the top of Mount Phousi for a nice panorama of the city. Chose your climbing time wisely, however - sunset is a big draw here. Many buses are parked along the surrounding roads, and hundreds of people are huffing and puffing their way to the top for the view. Also, the sky is hazy in Luang Prabang, so the sunset is never really spectacular, fading quietly behind the mountains. I suggest taking your time and visiting on a nice sunny day, to better appreciate the views from the top of the mountain.

Also, the temples up here get a lot of traffic, so seem a little more run-down compared to more beautiful example found in town. All in all, not worth the difficult climb up.‬

‪Steep paved hike up but worth the View!‬
يناير 2020
‪We arrived here around 6:30am. It was 20,000kip ($3CAD) to enter. There are 2 entrances. We took one on the way up and the other on the way down. We were not trying to get there for sunrise but wanted to be there early enough to miss the sunrise crowd and the mid day crowds. Which we did. It is a 100 meters high mountain in the centre of town. There are 328 steps well paved but very steep.

Mount Phousi was constructed in 1804 by King Anourat, there is a 20 meter tall golden stupa sits on a narrow terrace at the top of the mountan. Once at the top you can enjoy incredible 360 degree panorama views over the city. There are lots of different Buddha & other statues around the property.

The site is much bigger then we were expecting (Site map in pictures). We had about an hour and a half here and felt that was just enough Time.

This is a sacred site so please dress respectfully. Shoulders & knees must be covered.‬

‪Spectacular views of the town‬

‪Our guide took us early morning to see the sun rise. Lots of stairs, but the views are worth the hike. Definitely bring water and your camera. Dress in layers as it’s cool to start, but you warm up fast!‬
