The Angkor Archaeological Park is quite simply one of the best places I have been to. So many fascinating sites to look at. Exploring to do. The beaten track to go off. The entry ticket is amazingly good value, and ensures the maintenance of the Park, as well as facilities which support visitors, such as the Restrooms which are near all of the more-visited temples.
It so so amazing to see the great work which has been done by many dedicated people over the years to ensure that the Park can be visited.
I look forward to it's continued preservation.

No deja indiferente.

-Llevar abundante agua, sombrero, bloqueador y cámara.

So much has already been written about Angkor, its overwhelming beauty, majesty and magic! It is unique and should not be missed by anyone! However, visiting "Angkor Archaeological Park" (a temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world, measuring approximately 162,6 hectares) is no easy task. It is generally quite warm and humid and there is a lot of walking and climbing. It means you must be in a very good physical shape to endure such tiring and long journey! To enter the park you will need an "Angkor Pass", that is sold for "One Day" (US$37), "Three Days" (US$62 - valid for 10 days from the issue date and you can choose any three days within the period) and "Seven Days" (US$72 - valid for 30 days from the issue date and you can choose any seven days within the period). For standard travelers, I would say three days are just perfect. The hotels in Siem Reap are generally awesome and you can always take a day or two off to enjoy the lovely pools and massage spas, or even doing some shopping in the local traditional markets before returning to the Park. Some items are important to bring with you - comfortable shoes for walking and climbing, light clothes, a hat or cap, sunglasses, sunblock, mosquito repellent, water and, during the rainy season, a raincoat. Hiring a professional guide and transportation are also highly recommended. You are now all set for accomplishing a dream! A trip that will certainly stay forever in your dearest memories! Enjoy!

Ankor area can be compared to pyramids in Egypt or Mexico or Machu Pichu in Peru. Magnificient temples and interesting history. So, if you are in Cambodza, don’t miss this. It’s worth a separate stop even if you were traveling in neibougring countries like Thailand.
We arranged a tuktuk to drive us around the area for one day and tell a little about each place. That was enough for us (and especially for kids), although many people say that sunrises and sunsets are must and many people tour the area for several days. Tuktuks can be found on front of every hotel.

Is this open on New Years Day? January 1?

Hi Michelle. I did not know the answer to your question so I researched on internet and found one site (justsiemreap) that states that the Park is open 7 days a week for all 52 weeks. Nevertheless if I were you I would try to confirm this info because the info found on internet is sometime dated and no longer accurate.

You can gauge the tuktuk costings in town anywhere. We found ours outside old market for $15 US incl iced cold water bottles. He charged extra $5 US for the Rulous Group which is great. No sunrise tours though. He recommended we find a local tour guide in town as they are cheaper but said the temple guides are still good quality for info. Temple guides are everywhere, as advised by above post.
I recommend a guide as some information on my up-to-date guide books were completely outdated or misinformed (sigh).
We got a guide for the jungle temples outside of Angkor for $5 US...something to think about.
Inside Angkor we paid $10 US for Baphuon, Bayon, Tah Prohm, Phimeanakas, Terrace of elephants and causeway incl lepar king & Angkor Wat. We basically had to select which ones we wanted him to guide us for $10.Thats a bargain.
Tip: The hotter the day the cheaper the rates and the more inclined they are to go at your pace...we went very slow but they driver nor guide minded. Each got $5 US tip. Always account for a tip.

How much it cost for a 1 day pass and a 3 day pass? Does the entrance fee pass valid for all the temples near angkor wat? Thank you.

As far as we were informed the pass is valid for all temples within the Angkor archaeological park plus some little ones more.
Single day costs 37$ three day ticket is 62 $ and 7 day ticket is 75$
These are the only tickets available.
Tickets are controlled at each temple strictly.
The three das ticket is valid for three days in a row or three days of your choice within one week ...

Hi,
Is it possible to rent a motorbike and drive around Angkor? We heard the government doesn’t allow tourists to do it, but some shops still offer the possibility.
Thanks!

I'm wondering where we can do the elephant tour near Siem Reap. Not just 1 hour ride, but preferably playing in the river with the elephants kind of activity.

The elephant rides happens in the morning at Bayon
South Gate of Angkor Thom city and in the evening from the base of ruins of Bakheng temple. You can ride either up, down or both. You can get up close to the elephants when they are waiting (talk nicely to the keepers).
The location of the elephants during the day depends on the temperature, the amount of tourists etc as the keepers take fond care of them when they are not working. Outside work hours they are not tourist attractions.

I think one day is not enough and would be VERY exhausting. Sites are quite far from each other and if you like photography and just "being" in such a wonderful place, then take the time. Sometimes there are crowds and lines to climb up to the sites too. We used 2 days but if I had to do it again, I would have spent 3 days there. But we visited from 10am- 4pm only, (it was rainy season) and used our book guide instead of a paying one. Out tuk tuk driver also gave lots of infos. If you go all the way to Cambodia, then enjoy it and avoid doing the "been there, done that" trip.
