Have some issues in deciding on our itinerary for the trip initially. But we decided to book our tour with China Private Tours although their price was slightly higher than another tour agent as they have very patiently & professionally attended to all our enquiries. And they did not disappoint.
There was just a slight hiccup with the first driver, Mr Cheng, who picked us up from Shanghai to Hangzhou as he most probably had missed the turn to the side lane to drive in to the parking area of the hotel.
The second driver, Mr Lu, who drove us around on the tour in Suzhou is extremely patient, thoughtful & helpful. Along the way when we urgently require a local mobile SIM card, he very nicely attended to our request to drive us to the shop. When we had some problem finding our accommodation for the night due to the restricted area, despite the late hours & rain, he patiently assisted us by communicating with the owner of the lodge & drove us to another location where we didn't need to walk to far.
Anita, our tour guide in Suzhou, was wonderful. She was patient, caring, funny and helpful throughout the tour. She was very informative & could provide answers to many of our questions. As it was raining during the tour and we didn't have enough umbrella, she constantly ensure that we are shielded by sharing hers.
This is definitely highly recommended tour agent to book your tour with!

We had a really friendly and smart Tourguide named Becky who spoke fluent English and knew everything about Suzhou history as well as the silk production and the Tongli Watertown. It was the perfect way to discover the area on one day, to have a guide who explains everything to you but also with enough free time to discover things on your own! In the end Becky even helped us with our traintickets. Suzhou is really worth a visit as well as Tongli Watertown and the tour combines it perfectly!

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing Tongli and learning about the history and culture of life along the canals there. Anita was a great guide, providing a lot of background and context. She was thoroughly knowledgeable about the local area, as well as the customs, culture, and history that formed the context for what we saw. The only thing I would suggest is that a boat ride be part of the tour package. It was an inexpensive addition, but it's something everyone would want to do.

A boat ride in Tong Li Water Town, and the Garden, visited also Lingering Garden, Master of Nets Garden, Humble Administrator's Garden, Panmen Gate, Shantang Old Street, Suzhou No. 1 Silk Mill. Was able to cover most of the scenic sights as I had a friendly and experienced tour guide, May, who knows the sights, as well as the history and culture of Suzhou. Amazing experience! The entire day was wonderful. My tour guide Anita was delightful. She was equal parts informative, patient, funny and helpful throughout the entire day. The tour itself took me through the various historic gardens of Suzhou and each one was breathtaking. The silk factory was very informative, and I was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. The best part, however, was the water village at the end. A full tour around the old town, with stops at various spots, all of which were gorgeous, and peaceful.
Had a wonderful time, would do it again in a heartbeat.

Charming Suzhou Venice of the East. Visited Zhouzhuang Water Town and Jinji Lake Area with lovely and friendly tour guide Anita, who is interesting and experienced. Through her sharing, I learned more about the history and culture of Suzhou. Enjoyed the tour and the time spent together. Thank you Anita.

This can be arranged with the tour operator when you confirm your booking. Alternatively, some hotels have complimentary shuttle services from Suzhou train station to the hotel (make sure you indicate the correct Suzhou train station for pick-up. The hotel I stayed at had pick-up only from North Suzhou train station). Also pick-up by hotel from train station has to be made in advance.

It was 1,400 RMB (Yuans) But that was after adding on a special request and making a customized tour. I think that the average was about 1,000 Yuans if it is one of there base tours listed on the site

My husband and I will be disembarking from our cruise (Celebrity Millennium) at Shanghai on March 25. We are from HK and my husband is Shanghainese, and we have been to Shanghai many times. This time, we want to visit Suzhou for a day, see the gardens and canals, also visit the Suzhou Museum.
We will be flying back to HK from Pudong Airport around 6pm on March 26. We can either spend the night of March 25 in Pudong or Suzhou, but taking our luggage with us to Suzhou would be a problem. So we plan to stay in Shanghai near the Pudong Airport after getting off the cruise. We can then take an early morning train from Shanghai Railway station to Suzhou on March 26, but we have to be back to Pudong before 5pm to take or flight back to HK.
We probably only have 5-6 hours in Suzhou on Sunday, March 26. Please let us know if this is feasible and how much it costs for a private tour. We do not mind joining other people with similar interests.
