short drive from Visakhapatnam are a number of Buddhist sites and Bojjana Konda is well worth the drive. Be prepared for a walk up the hill and several levels of carvings.

This place is near Anakapalle around 40 Kms from Vizag. This has rock cut cave where statue of Buddha is carved. The Hill beside this contains various stupas where monks used to do dhyana. Yearly, festival is celebrated here. This is also a famous picnic spot in Karthika month.

Bojjana Konda is about an hours drive from city and is a buddhist place. This place is under ASI care. There is a beautiful statue of Lord Buddha on hill top.Lingala Konda is also in the same premises where one can see stupas. One has to climb quite a few steps to see both Buddha statue and stupas. As a tourist attraction there are no facity for drinking water or food nearby. The entance to this place is free.

If you are at all interested in Buddhist rock caves, this is a place that must be visited if you are in Vizag or around. It is a relatively small place, a fraction of say the Aurangabad caves, but it is surprisingly good. It is located in the middle of farms in a non-descript village outside Vizag, a fact that its presence pleases you even more. Entry is free. The monument is present in a very large ground with trees and well kept lawns. The caves have been made at several levels, and in different styles as per the prevalent sect at that time. The same finished and unfinished sculptures you see in other Buddhist sites are also there. The main sculptures are stunning and the surrounding structures, steps, terraces and stupas are very beautiful. The view from the top, where the bhikshus would have lived in their quarters is panoramic and breath-taking, taking one back in time.

This place has a rich historical significance. You get to see traces of Buddhism in the history of Andhra Pradesh here. Buddhist monastery is excavated and a statue of Lord Buddha in meditating posture can be seen here. The place is very praceful and tranquil located uphill at about 15 kilometres away from city centre.

It's very calm place. If you visit alone you can do meditation and totally get relaxed. If you visit with family and friends then kids can learn alot. Overall it's must visit place if you are in or close to Anakapalle. Can visit sun flower fields if interested.

This is one of the oldest Buddhist (possibly) monasteries that I have visited in India. This reminds me of the centuries old Thai Buddhist temples in Ayutthaya, Thailand. I hope Government restores the old monuments here and secures the place from natural deformation. I did not notice any information boards regarding the history of the site.
Few quick tidbits regarding the location:
1. It's around 35 KM from Vizag. Takes around 1 hour to get here. It's almost near Anakapalle.
2. There is no canteen facility in the location. No clean drinking water either.
3. Toilets are there.
4. No entry fee. Timings are from 0900 to 1800 (as far as I remember)
