The place is in a state of ruins, devoid of the ornate interiors found in other palaces. Positioned atop a hill, it is reached by navigating through the old city of Leh. The entry fee is Rs.50/-, and visitors are not allowed entry after 6 pm. Ascending to the palace involves climbing steep stairs, and the entry is on the 4th floor; access below this level is restricted.
Inside the palace, the rooms are characterized by low ceilings, necessitating caution to avoid hitting one's head. An audio-visual room showcases the history of Ladakh through numerous photographs and a video presentation. As you ascend higher in the palace, the stunning beauty of Leh city unfolds, offering panoramic views that captivate visitors. Despite its dilapidated state, the palace provides a unique perspective on the historical and architectural heritage of the region.

Worth visiting royal household that people in Leh are trying to salvage. Guide tour provides a lot more information about how it was constructed and royal family that lived there. Donate if you can so next generations get to witness this place. The climb is steep if walking from the market. Cars can get there easily but limited parking spots. Definitely worth visiting while in Leh

The steepish climb was rewarded with good views and there are some exhibits that may well be of interest.
But, the exterior ought to be whitewashed at least to give more of a palace look and feel

I don't understand some of the lukewarm reviews here. So impressive and a hugely important historical place. From quite a ruinous state not to long ago it is slowly being restored. True ... not a lot to see inside but use your imagination and the place will come alive. If you haven't got one then perhaps you won't be overly impressed. The walk up through the old city is wonderful and the views from the top are great.

300 rupees to enter, the most expensive entrance fee on our north India tour, and not worth it. It is an imposing Palace looking down on the town below. It is of historic significance. Its just there's not a lot to see. Once holding 100 rooms you enter from the side at level 4, so nothing to see below that. And of the 4 floors to walk there are only limited rooms on each floor, all with absolutely nothing in them. You might expect a few to be furnished and dressed in the style of its historic peak, but no. One audio visual room, some information boards but mostly just the dull brown walls the same as visible from outside. Except for some walls renovated less sympathetically with bland cement.

The palace is nestled above the city of Leh and as such, has a great view of the entire valley. Definitely worth the climb and soaking in the landscape.

Nice Palace but not much to see. Only the building is remaining and the Royal shrine is good. One gets to see the beautiful view of Leh from the top of the Palace. Worth a visit. Mind you that the steps leading to the Palace is steep. Not for aged people.

Visited the palace as part of a day tour. I managed to climb most of the area and appreciated all the drawings, history and views from this epic building. It can be seem from almost everywhere in Leh city - one got spot for photos is where the statue of the snow leopard is. I couldnt go up all levels but what I saw was unique.

This is really ancient place was built over 160 years. Nothing much in side the building. People come for the overlooking the Leh town.

This was the main establishment of the Namgyal kings and is a no miss for history and culture buffs! The palace however has 7-9 floors which are connected by narrow and squeaky wooden stairs. This could be a problem for someone with breathing problem or knee problems.
Also parking could be a hassle here as the narrow road leading to the Palace are lined by tourist cabs.
