The two colors in the same river is really mesmerizing to see. The Indus & Zanzkar rivers have their own colors and flowing in a steady calm cool weather is mind blowing.!

Amazing place to visit. You can enjoy the confluence from the top of the road to the sangam point more than while you are the bank of the river. While at the river, try to do rafting if you are the adventurous kind.

We just stopped here for a few photos. Would be a good place for those interested in rafting as there are shacks which help in that right at the banks

Unforgettable experience of viewing the confluence of Zanskar river and Indus river. The emerald blue waters and surrounding mountains make this place extremely scenic. Not to be missed!

Beautiful location specially in winters when the tourists have not littered the place with garbage. Believe in Clean India please.

With lofty snow-capped mountains, rugged terrains and deep valleys, this union territory in the Trans-Himalayan region of India is one of the highest and most picturesque destinations in the country. While there are so many fascinating spots in this region that can catch the eye of the wanderlust, the river confluence of Zanskar and Indus is nothing short of a glimpse of heaven. The green-tinged Indus river originates in the Tibetan Plateau near the Manasarovar range, whereas the shiny blue Zanskar has its source in the Zanskar valley. Both the rivers kiss each other near the scenic Nimmu valley, that falls between Leh and Kargil. The rivers are clearly distinguished by their colours and the confluence can be best viewed during the spring-summer months, from March to May.

This place is about an hour's drive away from Leh on the Leh-Srinagar highway - NH1. The fast flowing Zanskar meets the slow, meandering Sindhu at what is locally know as the "Sangam Point". Rafting options are available from here, which is the world's highest rafting point. Cannot get into the water, too dangerous. There is a small restaurant at this point - only Maggi was available when we visited.
There are many attractions on the way to this place - The Hall of Fame museum, The Magnetic Hill, and a couple of other view points. Worth spending a couple of hours.

Is there rafting centers available in Sangam for spot booking on Rafting ? We will be travelling from Kargil to Leh - would like try out rafting ( shorter streches with grade 1 or 2 rapids) on the way...how much time required to reach Sangam from Kargil via Lamayuru ?

Of course you can do river rafting at the Confluence of the two rivers . Rafts are there . Levels 1 &2 possible. Must know swimming . The place is around an hours drive from Leh. And it's very cold and windy .

Sapna i would suggest complete rest, ie not even having a bath or climbing stairs the day you arrive. You will feel nauseating and a dull headache the entire day. So pls rest on the 1st day...then only will you enjoy the rest of your trip. We a family of 4 with 2 teenage sons took 1 Diamox everyday. And have lots of water.

Nubra and pangong are a must. To me monasteries are all same and one seen all see. If you are little bit of a dare devil go for rafting at zanskar River. Pl take warm clothes. Take homeopathic medicine coca6 and have six globules in the morning and evening. This is for your breathing and high mountain sickness
What is the age limitation for rafting in zanskar river

This time of the year Leh would be freezing cold - therefore you must carry good jackets, warm clothes, gloves etc to keep yourself warm. Also since Leh is a high altitude place, you should carry medicines like Diamox tablets to help you get rid of mountain sickness.
Following is the sightseeing itenary which I followed during my trip:
Day 1: Arrival at Leh, Airport Rest of day at leisure for acclimatization. Overnight at Leh
Day 2: Visit Spituk Gompa, Hall of Fame, Shanti Stupa, Sankar Gompa, Leh Palace, Namgyal Gompa. Overnight at Leh
Day 3 : Gurdwara Pather Sahib, Magnetic hill, Indus & Zanskar confluence, Basgo Monastery, Likir Monastery, Alchi Monastery. Overnight at Leh
Day 4 : Travel to Nubra Valley covering Khardungla Pass, Samstanling Monastery, Sumur sand des. Overnight at Nubra
Day 5: Travel back to Leh covering Hunder sand dunes, Hunder Monastery, Diskit Monastery, Lachung temple. Overnight at Leh
Day 6 : Sindhu Ghat, Shey Monastery, Thikse Monastery, Stakna Monastery, Changla Pass, Pan gong Lake. Overnight at Pangong
Day 7: Travel back to Leh covering Hemis Monastery, Matho Monastery, Stok Palace. Overnight at Leh
Day 8: Departure from Leh Airport.

The altitude of the confluence is lower than Leh. The road to the spot is good. If you have acclimatised yourself at Leh for a day, there won't be any problem.

I am visiting Ladakh with my family. Can we cover Hall of fame, Spituhb monastery, Pather Sahib Gurduvar, magnetic Hill, Confluence, Alchi temple in one day? How far is confluence from Leh? Is it possible to do rafting at Confluence? Which is the best time to do ?How about safety measures? How must is the cost?
Hall of fame is temporarily close for renovation....rest can be covered in one day.........Magnetic hill shall not take much time once there...........Rafting is available at confluence......Safety looks fine.......cost shall be in the range of 1500 INR.......
