‪The address of this listing is incorrect - Mullur is a tiny village near Somwarpet in Kodagu district, some 200km west of Bengaluru. Just had a quick stopover at this nice old Jain Digambar style temple en route thru Shanivarasante. Partly in ruins.‬

‪Kanakapura is my native town. Channapatna is in neighbourhood, which is famous for toys. Both are in Ramanagara (earlier Bangalore Rural) district. There are number of pilgrimage and historical places like Revanasiddeswara hill, Mekedatu, Kengal Anjaneya temple, Narasimhaswami hill, beautiful falls of tourist attractions. Ramanagara and Kanakapura are world famous for fine quality silk yarn whereas Channapatna is equally well known for its colourful toys and handicrafts.
Among many Aprameya Swami Temple ["Crawling Krishna"] in Doddamallur near Channapatna is an interesting dot both from religious and tourist point of view. Purandaradasaru was a great composer in Kannada set to Carnatic music, who has composed thousands of lyrics on gods including Lord Krishna. His composition "Jagadoddharana Aadisidalu Yashode..." on the episode of Yashode fostering and playing with Him is sung in every music and Bharathanatyam programs. It was composed by him after seeing the beautiful doll like idol of Lord Krishna In this temple. Infact as a mark of tribute to Purandaradasa his statue is placed in a mantapa here. That is the divine beauty of the lord that fascinates anyone and brings about the worshipful tendency in Lord in the viewers’ mind.
Aprameya temple is situated in Doddamallur on banks of river Kanva. This "Crawling Krishna", called as "Ambegalkrishna". is the main attraction of this temple as it is the rare form of idol of Krishna depicting His Childhood days-play that is carrying butter in right hand. His Consort here is Aravindavalli.
The full form of Lord namely the idol of Aprameya is carved out of Saligrama stone. It is in abhayahastha posture. Here He holds Shanka (Conch shell) and Chakra (disc) in two raised hands and in other two holds Gadha (mace) and Varadahastha (Assuring hand). Its replica in small size made of Panchaloha (Utsavamurthy) along with idols of Sridevi and Bhudevi and that of Saint Ramanujacharya are taken on procession on putting them on sandalwood pedestal in the chariot during festivals.
The unique feature of the temple structure is that it stands on sand and not on any solid foundation. I was keen to note while passing through circumambulation passage (taking pradakshina) I observed icons of goddess Lakshmi to the right side of main shrine and then idol of Lord Krishna as an infant who is known as ‘Navaneetha Krishna’. The other wonder is of its style of architecture. The temple is built in such a way that sunray at sunrise fall directly on the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Aprameya during April/May of every year.
The idol of Thavazrar or Ambegal (crawling) Krishna is of black stone, which is one of the master pieces not seen anywhere. Maharshi Vyasa installed the statue of Lord Navaneetha in the temple, which is adorned with several ornaments like anklets, waist band, amulets, pendant of tiger claws and chains are all carved in the stone itself. The idol in the form of crawling Krishna, holding butter in His right hand, sits on a Garudapeeta. Priests say that the Lord wears tiger claws to avoid bad eyes from his many devotees staring at his boundless beauty.
You can reach Channapatna from Bangalore by Bus and Train on Mysore road. It is 65km from Bangalore. Bangalore International Airport is nearest. The greenery of standing sugarcane field, coconut garden and scenic beauty in the country side is marvelous.
You may visit this temple for an hour on the way to Mysore or Bangalore, as the case may be, at your convenience. You can’t expect good food or plan for stay there. However Tea will be very tasty in petty shops or country hotels on wayside.‬

‪Mullur Jain Digambars are remains of Jain history of Coorg. As the guide there suggests it was the capital of Jainism in Coorg State back in the days. It is very well maintained by Archaeological department of India.‬
