I've known and visited this temple for years as the Naga statues from our ancestral home placed at this temple so we go there whenever we can for blessings. I few years ago the temple priest told us that there was soon to be a renovation of the temple structure. I have never known our priests to have an aesthetic sense so didn't expect much. But WOW. This temple is now beautiful! It is simple yet tasteful. Bright yet not gaudy. The building finally compliments the strong radiance and divine energy that one feels in front of Lord Anantha Padmanaba. I simple adore the amazing detail on the walls, pillars and roof. There is a blend of stone, granite and intricately carved wood. And also the roof carvings are painted in almost a Balinese style. My sincerest compliments to the temple administration and architect. Hope this temple will set the standards for more to come. The blessings of the lord to all those who visit.

Kudupu Sri Anantha Padmanabha Temple is a temple dedicated to Sri Anantha Padmanabha(Vishnu) and is located about 10 KM from Mangalore city.
Apart from the presiding deity Lord Anantha Padmanabha, this temple also consists of a Naga Bana (place of serpent deity having hundreds of serpent idols) and is very famous in South Karnataka for serpent worship.
While the main deity Lord Anantha Padmanabha faces the West, Naga Bana though situated in the Eastern portion of the temple also faces the West.
The Temple complex also consists of several smaller shrines dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya, Lord Ganapathi, Jarandaya, Lord Ayyappa, Nava Gruhas and Goddess Sri Devi.
The temple also houses a holy pond 'Bhadra Saraswathi Thirtha' which is situated towards left side of the temple.
As per the Legend, Kedar a devotee (on the advice of sage Rishya Shringi) meditated Lord Subramanya on the banks of the Bhadra river for many years and prayed to bless him with children. The Lord was pleased and granted the boon. After several months his wife delivered three snake-eggs instead of children. Kedar was heartbroken but soon received a divine sermon that those eggs were Lord Maha Vishnu, Maha Sesha and Lord Subrahmanya who would come on the earth for the betterment of the world. Kedar preserved these eggs in basket weaved with forest creeps called Kudupu (This is how this village got its name) and spent rest of his life praying Lord Subramanya and worshiping Lord Anantha Padmanabha.
Temple Timings:-
6 A.M.–12:30 P.M.
5:00 P.M. – 8:30PM
The Annual festival Shashti celebrated in December is very famous. In addition, the festival of Naga panchami is celebrated with great devotion.
The main access to this temple involves climbing down many steps. Devotees especially Senior Citizens are recommended to use the alternate path (where there is provision for even parking vehicles) to avoid the steps.
This temple was undergoing a major renovation work when we visited and access of the Garba Gruha was not permitted.
Visiting this temple with its Naga Bana was a unique experience. Recommend spending an hour to fully understand the historical and cultural significance of this temple.

For the people who are on pilgrimage should definitely not miss the temple. Main deity being Anantha Padmanabha. The fifth days of the moon are always special and Naga Panchami is celebrated in a way of its own.
Post the afternoon pooja lunch is served for free. With a condition, take what you can consume for wasting food is considered a sin. You eat off your plate and clean it and keep it back. (I love this idea).
Accessible from Mangalore via Bus or by cabs and Auto

This is an extremely beautiful, clean and serene temple. We had a chance to visit the temple, on the way from River Roost resort Vamanjoor to Coorg. Its located about 10-15 min from the resort. The temple is not too commercialized or crowded, hence once can peacefully sit in the temple premises and feel the tranquil atmosphere. Its absolutely a must visit..
