A great place to experience traditional kerala architecture and to immerse yourself in the history of travancore since the chithralaya art gallery is nearby. The collection of ancient chola bronze statues, ancient porcelain, weapons etc are interesting. Intricate wood carvings are really wonderful to explore.
Plenty of pay and park spaces avilable nearby. Located very close to the esteemed padmanabhaswamy temple

The palace is located near Eastern Gate of Sree Padhanabha Swamy Temple. The entry fee is Rs 70 per person. Out of 80 odd rooms about 20 are open to tourist. Footwear is not allowed inside the palace and neither photography is allowed inside. However photography is allowed in the outside premises for a nominal fee of Rs.20. A lot of historical artifact are kept in the palace which are worth seeing. Approx time to visit about 2 hours. Time of visit 9 am to 1 pm and then 2 pm to 5 pm. Staff is very friendly and take keen interest to brief people on various exhibits. Must visit especially with children.

Puthen Maliga Palace Museum (Kuthira Malika Palace)
Palace is located close to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala. Built in the year 1845, this palace is one of the finest examples of traditional Kerala architecture with its typical sloping roof, pillared verandahs and enclosed courtyards. Intricate carvings adorn the wooden ceilings with each room having a distinctive pattern. The construction of the palace was completed by 5000 Vishwabrahmins in four years. The palace is made from teakwood, rosewood, and granite. The roof of the palace is made of wood and 42 beams support the carved patterns. The roof is supported by granite pillars. The floral motifs on the ceiling enhance the beauty of verandah. The main 16 rooms of the palace are constructed in 16 different patterns. The palace contains 80 rooms, of which 24 were opened to visitors in the year 1995. The floor of the palace is made of egg whites, black charcoal of coconut shell and slaked lime, which make it cool and smooth even in hot summer.

This is a must see for tourists, Indians or foreigners, as it showcases the rule of Travancore kings and also tells us the way they treated their citizens. This palace has very soft spoken guides, who would take you around the entire place, explain every photograph, which made this trip very enlightening experience.
The collection of ivory and wooden carvings, statues etc is impressive. I would suggest readers to keep at least 4-5 hours for this attraction to enjoy cool environment inside this palace and they can avoid hot sun outside.

Was really impressed by the history artefacts in the museum. The architecture is good so is the ambience. Was dissapointed with a certain lady guide asking for tips all the way. Not expected in Kerala.

Kuthira Maalika (Horse Palace) also known as Puthen Maalika (New Palace) is located adjacent to Padmanabha Swamy Temple at Trivandrum. This palace is built by Late King Swathy Thirunal of then Travancore. The name horse palce is because of the wooden carved horses that supports the roof. This is build as per the traditional Kerala architecture with slope roofs. It is now a museum of mannequins of Kerala classical dance form Kathakali, some music instruments and a musical tree which produces 8 sounds on tapping. A classic music festival takes place every year during January. Someone want to see the typical Kerala architecture, this is the place. It is awesome.

La visite du musée accompagnée par des amis m'a autant plu que la première fois.
Même si ce musée n'est pas l'un des plus intéressants du Kérala, il est à visiter.

The palace doesn't look that interesting from the outside, but the inside exhibition of the items from the past is amazing. Especially the weaponry displayed in some of the rooms and on the corridor walls is really interesting.

The Puthenmalika palace is located quiet close to the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The palace is constructed beautifully with tiled roofs and wooden walls and pillars. Only about 20 of the 80 odd rooms are open to the public for viewing. There are guides who take the tourists free of charge for a tour of the palace and explain all the features and history. Overall an interesting visit.

Great. Welcome to God's own Country. There are many places to see and enjoy in Trivandrum City and it's surroundings. Foremost will be Padmanabhaswamy Temple. It's a monumental temple to Lord Vishnu. Near Padmanabhaswamy Temple, you can visit Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. A famous temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. You can go to Kovalam Beach, the Trivandrum Zoo and Museum. Do not forget to visit Technopark as well as Akkulam Lake. If can travel to the outskirts of Trivandrum, you can travel to Kanya Kumari, which is about 95 kms. Enroute you can see the Nagercoil Temple and a famous Palace.

The best time effective way to see Trivandrum is to book a day tour through Kerala state tourist development corporation. Their office is at the ground floor of Chaitram hotel and you can go to their ktdc website
See the trivandrum section. I have done each of the routs -the Nagaradarsanam covers the city. The ponmudi tor ris also good
if you want to see Poovar - it takes half a day and I booked through
poovarbackwatercruise
but please note that you need to hire a cab to go and come back
I stay in Trivandrum Hotel which is at Statue which is clean and neat.
Hope this helps you
