One can quickly have a tour to get acquainted with the history of the temples around and the sculptures on them. Nothing extraordinary.

This museum has sculptures which are the best in Khajuraho.Like dancing Ganesh,twelve Sun gods,a larger than life statue of a mother feeding her child,and many others.Its an art lover's and history lover's delight.It is closed on fridays.One doesnot have to buy a separate ticket,if you have temple's ticket.Taking photographs is prohibited.

This is newly constructed museum . Though it has collection of artifacts and interesting piece but it is not enough. Seem something is missing here in this place.

This museum exhibits artefacts and history of Central India and obviously with many of the items from Khajuraho as well. Sadly, photographing inside the museum is not permitted. Even though I love visiting museums, I didn’t think this was all that interesting and didn’t miss not being able to take photos.

Archaeological Museum Khajuraho.. like the name suggests a historical place or museum for history lovers.

The Archaeological Museum had a lovely collection of artifacts and pieces of excavated interest. It’s a great place for history buffs. A few of the galleries were open and a few were under construction. It’s a fabulous place to start your tour of the city

We have visited this museum with friends. Good collection of old idols. Most of the idols were in damaged conditions.

The Archaeological Museum in Khajuraho is in two parts. The older museum is located near the hotel Headquarter Khajuraho opposite the ShivSagar Lake, This is being gradually emptied and the artifacts are being shifted to a newly constructed swanky building near the Circuit House. We visited both the museums during our recent trip to Khajuraho.
This new museum is just the place from where one should start one's Khajuraho Tour. The ticket to visit the Archaeological Museum is the same which is used to visit the Western Group of Temples. No one will tell you about this, as there are very few visitors to the museums.
With constant excavation being carried out in and around Khajuraho by the Archaeological Survey of India, it is logical the have museums to showcase their finds. The old museum has 5 major galleries, namely the Vaishnav, Shaivait, Jaina, Miscellaneous and one more. The new museum presently has only one gallery, which is beautifully laid out and extremely well labelled. The museum is to have a total of six galleries, but work is moving at extremely slow pace, due to the shortage of funds.
We visited these museums on our last day in Khajuraho. Frankly it is recommended that one should visit the new museum first in order to gain a better understanding of what will be visible in the temples. Most of the guides make up stories which give one a different picture of Khajuraho, at least ours did. The museum would clear all misconceptions in advance and equip a visitor with adequate knowledge prior to seeing the temples..

We went to the old museum. There was not much to do exept there were artist from all over India making clay figures. Very interesting to see. There was nobody to tell us anything abiut the museum and no light in the rooms so we sid not see much but the craftsmen were very good and pressant to watch!

This archaeological museum is located near western group of temples in Khajuraho spread in a wide area with beautiful lawn well maintained. There are good collection of artefacts
