Recently visited this unique temple lying in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. A really peaceful, open-roofed temple with gorgeous and intricate carvings on both the inner and outer walls. It's best to visit this temple by car since it is not in the city and in a more quieter rural area. Furthermore, there is a lovely handicraft store just opposite the temple called Soumya Handicrafts. They have lovely Pattachitras. Overall, you must not miss this hidden gem!

This 9th century site is also known as Mahamaya Temple... it is one of the very few active tantric shrines of India... hypaethral or open roofed in design, the architecture resembles a yoni-pedestal

The Temple is a circular structure - quite small in Diameter & height - Honestly I was expecting it to be much bigger.
There are 64 idols of ladies, each bearing a unique Hairdo! The only Temple of its kind without a roof. I will strongly recommend visiting it.

It is all open, no roof or doors and is circular in shape. We went cycling from Bhubaneshwar to this place and really enjoyed the ride, especially once you get out of the city.

If you want to see how Shakti is worshipped this temple summarizes it. We read online that this was not a living temple but were surprised that it was a temple with ongoing worship. Difficult to access though

I have seen chausathi (64) yogini temple one at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh and this is another one. But astonishingly the structure of both these temples are quite similar. This temple is in Hirapur village some 20 kms from Bhubaneswar towards Puri. But if you go by Tankapani Road through Sai Temple, after crossing the daya river bridge this village is there. The temple is also in outskirt of the village.It is not a favorite place for tourists, so you can admire its beauty peacefully. Only one goddess is worshiped here, though there are 63 remaining there. Indeed a small but beautiful place.

located on outskirts of city.. though small but a different kind of temples without any roof.. all temples have their own mythological history..

The main attraction is the beach and sparsely densed forest which is used for picnic .
The Marine drive makes the visit a memorable one .
Not much of food options available as most of the people cook for picnic .
Some good hotels a few miles away.

The place is very serenic due to the pond and the climate when we went. Probably deserted if it is very sunny. Some of the boards showing direction to this place has fallen and we got into small lanes by Google. They should get this corrected to help tourists, as it is bit away from the core city. Almost all of the 64 yogini are broken. The pandas there will try to get from you, be aware. There is a small shiva shrine first and then you can enter the circular yogini temple. It would have been better if some one told about the history and significance of this place for us to understand.
