‪Dhaulagiri hills are located on the bank of river Daya, which is at a distance of 8km from Bhubaneswar. Dhaulagiri hills are famous for its famous rock edicts of Ashoka. This is the place where the famous Kalinga war was fought in 260 BC. Over 1,50,000 lives were lost in this Battle. King Ashoka visited this place after the war and River Daya become reddish with blood of soldier's who all had lost their lives. This incident transformed King Ashoka from King to Buddhist and Ashoka adopted the path of dharma.

Most beautiful place in the Dhaulagiri hills is the site of the Vishwa Shanti Stupa. It is also known as white peace pagoda.

There is Light and sound show here twice in the evening except on Monday. 1st show is at 06:30 and 2nd show is at 07:10. Each show is show cased for 20 minutes. So if possible try to plan your visit in the evening‬

‪The Stupa was undergoing restoration / renovation when we visited. this was a let down as we couldnt see the entire monument in its true form. However the overall impression we carried back is that it was an average site.‬

‪Dhauligiri is a hill located on the banks of the river Daya, The place is famous for the Buddhist Santi Stupa, located at top. This is a historical place as the shanti stupa was built by the ardent followers of Buddhism to mark the conversion of Great King Ashoka to Buddhism here after the Battle of Kalinga. The road to Dauligiri hill is narrow and prone to trefic jam due to tourist vehicles. The Shati Stupa at the top can be reached through number of stairs. Several small shops, selling Puja Prasad, Kaju and other Misc. items are erected at the side of stairs. At 1st level, there is a Shiva temple and in next level, the Shanti Stupa is located, where big statue of Buddha is installed. However, as others said, significance of this place may not be known to many visitors, instead most of the visitors were busy taking pic everywhere without giving any damn to others. It has a nice view of surrounding from the top. As informed by our driver, the Shati Stupa got minor damage in the cyclones, which is even apparent and needs repair‬

‪It's a historical stupa and you would love the view of Bhubaneswar from the top. The stupa needs painting and some minor renovation done around it. ‬

‪There are no boards anywhere explaining the significance of the place. So I don't even know if half the crowd knew or cared. Just lots of photo clicking groups everywhere. Beautiful views of the country side. There is also a temple which was good. ‬

‪Take time to read and understand the significance of this place. This place is where King Ashoka fought the war and was disillusioned by the blood that he saw flowing in the nearby river - The famous Kalinga war. Ashoka become a Buddhist here in abut 250 BC. There is now a stupa there.‬

‪Nothing great but you get a good view from a hill. You can see many Buddha statues in various positions. For people with disability, you still need to walk a few steps and parking is little away from Stupa.‬
