We entered Mr. Vijay's workshop by chance and we didn't know it was going to be such an enriching experience. Mr. Vijay is an artist and a very lovely person, he made us feel very welcome and introduced us to his art and school without pressuring us to buy anything, just for the pleasure of sharing his world with us. He gave us a glimpse of his skill by painting an elephant on a split lentil. His work is truly inspiring! I we had more time we would have loved to take a painting class.

This was suitable for a complete beginner and an experienced painter. Did it with my sister and we both completed traditional miniature paintings. The lesson was with the owner’s son who was very patient. The lesson was 3-4 hours and we built the paintings up in stages. It was very interesting.
Since Covid they now charge £10 per person. It was just the 2 of us. We went to the shop and agreed a time to come back for the lesson so it was easy to arrange.

What a special place! Beautiful, exquisite paintings and no matter your budget, you will be able to find one (or more) that you can afford
to buy, and know you are supporting the local community. And what a wonderful thing to run a school and a business together.
We enjoyed the company of Vijay and Pimtu who were both very hospitable and kind. We returned a number of times to see them and were warmly welcomed every time. Thank you so much, Vijay and Pimtu.

I was driven to step into the small painting shop in the central market mainly because I had previous knowledge about the beauty of the art of miniature painting from ORHAN PAMUKs book MY NAME IS RED. VIJAY is the right person to show you more and to make you fall in love with this art. He is both an amazing father and a skilled teacher.

I was lucky to stumble into Vijay's shop, I felt like a family opened their arms to me. The few days when Vijay was my teacher were memorable, it is really amazing that the beautiful art of miniature painting is kept alive in the heart of the desert.

I took a miniature painting class for +/- 3 hours and it was a blast! You learn to appreciate the craft in a whole different way. Vijay and his son Tinku are absolutely lovely and pass the knowledge in an engaging way. Fun fact, Vijay the owner, is also known in the world as the lentil man 😄 Look it up!

Lovely place. We spent some time there with the owner and he was such a kind person! We gave us a beautiful gift of a miniature elefant and we were lucky to see how he did it! The amazing skills of his art it is something that anyone that comes to Jodhpur should have to see! Highly recommended,

Ce peintre a fait l’objet d’un reportage sur TF1 présentant Jodhpur et ses activités. Bien sûr il n’hésite pas à vous la montrer dans la boutique à peine entré. Comme partout l’accueil est souriant, les explications sur son travail et celui des élèves intéressantes et il n’est jamais pressant pour vendre ses créations, remarquables pour certaines.

Vijay has this little shop with miniatures and jewelry that is unire hidden form the mess of Clock tower market but totally worth to see! His work and his students’ is simply stunning!

I was blown away by the wonderful morning I spent with Mr Vijay Prajapat, aka Lentil Man. I spent several hours learning all about the technique of Indian miniature painting and Vijay guided me through creating my own small piece. He is a clear and patient teacher and a fantastic artist. You only need to look up Lentil Man Jodhpur to find videos and photos of his work. His work is also for sale and adjoining the studio he has beautiful jewellery for sale too. I highly recommend this experience with Vijay at Umaid Heritage Art School, Jodhpur.

Yes, you can walk in by I actually phoned and booked ahead of time. It was really excellent.

I visited on September 1st and there was a morning (10am) and an afternoon class (4pm) although very flexible. We spent nearly 3 hours but depending on detail of your work it could easily take less.
