‪Enter fee is nil. Ame space for parking. Easy to access.

Wonderful exhibits on the freedom struggle as well as the life of Gandhiji.
The museum has the blood stained clothes that the Mahathma was wearing when he was gunned down - will surely move one to tears.

Highly recommend to take little children along so that they can learn about the lives and contributions made by freedom fighters for the sake of the nation.

‪This museum in Madurai is one of the 5 Gandhi Sangrahalya in India. It is a great place to learn history and fight for freedom. You can see lot of objects and writings from Gandhiji. You can buy books and souvenirs here. The blood stained clothes of Mahatma Gandhi is must see in the museum. Have a look at the gallery of images from the Indian freedom movement days. Also don't forget to visit the library in the north wing. Locker rooms are available and pets are not allowed in the premises. This museum is located in the heart of city and hence accessible by bus, car, taxi, hired taxi, auto etc. ‬

‪This is a great museum to visit for anybody interested in the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi. It is interestingly laid out. It also has on display a piece of the garment that the Mahatma wore when he was killed. Not many people know that Gandhi as young lawyer shed his dapper Western clothes for his trademark Khadhar garment that he wore for the rest of his life right here in Madurai. The building itself is interesting in that it was built around 1670as a summer palace for the Nayakkan royal family. Rani Mangammal, the powerful Nayakkan Queen lived here when she was in Madurai.‬

‪Gandhi Memorial Museum, is a memorial museum for Mahatma Gandhi located in the city of Madurai & Known as Gandhi Museum, it is now one of the five Gandhi Museums in the country. It includes a part of the blood-stained garment worn by Gandhi when he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse.
The museum has an original letter written personally by Gandhiji to Narayanan Sathsangi of Devakottai, a congratulatory message sent by Gandhiji to freedom fighter & poet Subramania Bharati and another interesting letter written by the Mahatma Gandhi to Adolf Hitler.
The museum is divided in following sections :--..
India Fights for Freedom
A special exhibition on "India Fights for Freedom" with illustrations depicting the Freedom Movement history.
Visual Biography of Gandhiji
This memorial of Gandhi contains a "Visual Biography of Bapuji" containing, sculptures, photos, paintings manuscripts, quotations and selected copies of his letters. This section also contains numerous photographs depicting various phases of Gandhi’s life from his childhood to his cremation.
Relics and Replicas
This section contains so many original artifacts used by Gandhi. There is a blood stained cloth used by Gandhi on the day of his assassination. It is conserved inside a vacuum glass box, making viewers remember the importance of that day in the history of India.
To the south of the building is a big open-air theatre with 8,000 people capacity, where cultural programmes, weekly film shows and public meetings on special occasions are held.
In front of the main building, there is "Gandhi Kutir" , a replica of Gandhiji's hut in Sevagram.
The northern wing of this building, houses the Library, which contains books on the cultural background of India, on and by Gandhiji and allied literature. A research section is also functioning, books on Gandhian philosophy are published.‬

‪As with many of the museums we visited in India, you spent most of the time reading long descriptions of times and events, supported with pictures and some items that belonged to Ghandhi. The history is very interesting but could be just as easily be read in a comfortable chair at home.‬
