‪Catedral céntrica de gran tamaño y muy bonita, toda blanca y con ribetes azules. A pesar de ello, no vale la pena desplazarse ex profeso para verla, pero si te coge de paso pues si.‬

‪Beautiful St Mary's Cathedral‬

‪St Mary's Cathedral stands majestically at E Veli St, Mahalipatti, Madurai. You can't miss its facade of white and blue lining with two 42ft towers housing the church bells. Built as a small Chapel in 1841, it went through many construction amalgamating impeccable various architectural styles such as European, Continental and Roman and in 1969 acquired the status of Cathedral.

The tranquility of the church is surprisingly serene amidst the surrounding traffic. The interior is bathed with colourful shadows from the sun penetrating the beautiful stained glass.

Without the need for aircondition, its high ceiling with bright orange vaulting allows sufficient air to keep the place cool.

A gold kodimaram ( a Hindu temple flag-post), sits within the compound.

A must see!‬

‪Typical Catholic assembly point, ornate, and at the time of the year full of Christmas garbage. The internal Christmassy decorations seemed to be totally over the top for even Catholics! All mumbo-jumbo to me.‬

‪very colourful Catholic church‬

‪The bright colours and cool breezes (no AC but open windows with cross breeze!) amazed me. Interesting to see a different style of church than in the west.‬
