An idealist and compassionate girl born in Skopje (now capital of North Macedonia) lived in Skopje till age of 18. She wanted to become a nun. She lived for a while in Ireland before moving to India which became her home.
On 7 Th October 1950 she formed an Organization and named it Missionaries of Charity. What started as a small group of 12 people has become an organisation spread in about 20 countries and served by over 3500 sisters.
That person became known to the whole world as “Mother Teresa” later named as Saint Teresa by the Vatican.
Her Mission was to work for the poor, the hungry, the abandoned, the lepers, the sick, the old, the destitute, drug addicts, alcoholics and virtually all those, who society did not care for.
She established schools, soup kitchens, shelters, leper colonies. She cared for the orphans, the old and the AIDS victims with unparalleled compassion.
We visited the Missionaries of Charity House In Kolkata, where it all began. We were moved to see her small room with virtually no luxuries. There was no fan, no air conditioning, no tv or radio. She lived a life of simplicity and insisted that her organisation followed her example.
We saw her tomb. It was the simplicity after her life..
In the room nearby there were a few pictures telling her story. Since 1962 she received over 700 awards - minor and major. Notable among the awards are the Nobel Peace Prize, Bharat Ratna- India’s highest Civilian award, Jawahar Lal Award, John F Kennedy International award, US Congressional Gold Medal, Soviet Union’s Gold Medal of the Peace Committee and the Order of Merit from Queen Elizabeth..
She didn’t aspire for any of it but accepted the awards with humility on behalf of Missionaries of Charity. Her true reward was the hope, happiness and gratitude in the eyes of the souls she served..
When in Kolkata, do visit the Missionaries of Charity..

Based on our group's experience, I would not recommend going here. When our group arrived, the very first thing they did was rudely demand a donation from us. This was before we were even given a tour to have an opportunity to learn anything about the organization and what their funding supports. Even during our tour, we were not provided with much information about where the funding was going and testimonials or statistics on successes from previous donations, so the charitable finances did not seem very transparent to us. Additionally, once on our tour, a staff member woke up one of the young women there in order to have her sing us a song. When they walked us through the baby and toddler area, the children were all sleeping. The staff were going to wake the children just so we could see them; however, we emphatically declined as we did not wish to disturb the children's sleep. It did not seem that they prioritized the care of the children or other wards; it seemed their priority was getting a donation and giving us a show. How completely different to our amazing tour of the Elephant Sanctuary where they provided us with a slide show explaining why their organization exists, where all the funding goes, providing statistics and information on their success stories and showing us some of their rescues, but putting the animals first, they have stopped the practice of allowing visitors to feed the elephants. The information provided was remarkable. They mentioned that we were free to contribute if we wish, but that we were not obliged. They very much prioritized education and care of the animals. We did not witness any evidence of that at Mother Teresa's Orphanage when we were there.

Be sure to meet with the sister and see the facilities and work that is being done in the name of God. Be sure to give a donation for their time of showing you around. Good work is being done and their humility is a testimony to their faith. It was beautiful to see something Christian in a country which is predominately Hindu.

I visited this home as I wanted to make a donation. I was shown around by a Sister and it was lovely to interact with the people and kids with disabilities. The children were at school. The home is very humble and they live very simply, existing only on donations. Well worth a visit.

You can visit the place or offer some seva according to your schedule and plans
We spent one week repainting and decorating the hall in the orphanage which was very good experience
If you go and have some time just ask the sisters how you could help and they will assist you!
One thing they asked us for our next visit was to bring candles for them to use during mass. Always buy in pair if you have a chance and they will be very grateful!

Veloce visita a questa missione per una donazione, all'ingresso una Sorella ci ha fatto vedere la struttura e le persone che accolgono al suo interno. Rilasciano una ricevuta per la donazione. Ben gestito.

Where can I donate clothes and blankets to the children in mother Teresa's ophanage?
كُتب بتاريخ 14 مارس 2019
You can get a taxi to the orphanage, the gates are locked but you will be let in. You just need to say you’re there to give a donation. They will gratefully take anything off you, there really is not much there. If you can’t make it in person to donate, then I would suggest giving them a call, to ensure someone can receive your donation. The nuns spoke English, Spanish and Italian in the 30 minutes I was there.

I would like to visit here but do not want to take a tuk tuk. Is it easy to arrange an alternative way of visiting.

Hi,
It’s just easier to get a tuk tuk. It’s a bit out of town so not really walkable.

Does anyone know Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity's email address?
Thanks
