‪An OK sort of a place.‬
يناير 2020
‪If you've been in Bali more than a few days, you've probably seen more diverse art and culture in the local boutiques and galleries, so Bali Museum will present you with little that's new. Stones, Barongs, Hindu figurines, etc. 50,000 rupiah to go in and you will immediately be accosted by a guide asking for a further 100,000 to give you a tour. Definitely not worth it. Just have a wander by yourselves. The best part is probably the museum buildings themselves which, I was told, were part of a former palace. All in all, just a time filler.‬

‪Nice informative museum‬
بمفردك • نوفمبر 2019
‪This museum is quite informative with extensive literature in English explaining different periods of Balinese history. Sometimes the translation isn’t quite correct, but you get the gist. There are only 4 main rooms / buildings, so it’s relatively small, but I was still there an hour or so. The museum costs 50,000rp, so very cheap really.

There is no real reason for the guide if you’re willing to read the boards. They may have been able to add a little more detail if I used one. If you do, I would make sure to barter a reasonable price beforehand judging from what others have said. I didn’t find them aggressive at all and just said no thank you in Indonesian and he walked away.

Tips-
I nearly walked into the temple next door by mistake when going to the museum, without a sarong. I was quickly stopped by a local, we had a little giggle and pointed me further along to the museum entrance. It’s actually reasonably well signed.

Don’t be rude or get upset with the ‘guides’ and vendors. They’re just trying to earn a buck. I’ve found if you don’t need their services, just decline politely in Indonesian or Balinese and they tend to leave you alone.

This isn’t wheelchair friendly. ‬

‪De verschillende Balinese culturen‬
زوجان • نوفمبر 2019

‪You will be greeted by individuals offering to guide you through the buildings however this really isn’t needed as everything is labelled in English. Decline politely but firmly.

Four separate buildings containing a variety of artefacts. Strong smell of mothballs in most of the buildings.

If you’re in the area worth a visit but not sufficient to make a specific journey.‬

‪AVOID THIS PLACE!!!‬
زوجان • سبتمبر 2019
‪The museum is quite small, but has a few interesting expositions with some archeological artefacts and traditional dance costums.

Our visit was really spoiled by quite an aggressive guide (whom we didn't ask to accompany us), and made us feel like we were trapped in a scam for tourists. He demanded we pay him after we had already paid the entrance fee and actually did not even introduce himself as a guide. There was no mention of the price of the tour before we entered the place.
More than half of the tour was dedicated to trying to make us buy from local vendors on the museum grounds. It was extremely unpleasant to repeat that we were not there for shopping and keep telling that we did not have cash on us.

Our experience was very similar to other recent less positive reviews posted here. If only we would have read them earlier!

The whole thing was extremely disappointing and left us with a bitter feeling.. it was the worst we had experienced during our stay in Bali..

We wouldn't advise anyone to come to this museum. If you do go, make sure to refuse the guide and explore the exhibition on your own.

‪Decent but small museum‬
سبتمبر 2019
‪A rather small museum consisting of four buildings. Interesting displays in each building with a theme for each building. Air-con in some of the rooms were insufficient. However no overall flow for the four buildings. Garden was tranquil and quite pretty. Admission fee a bit stiff, but fortunately we declined the service of the 'museum tour guide' since we did not have time for an extended stay.‬

‪Nice museum but watch out!‬
زوجان • سبتمبر 2019
‪We went to this museum yesterday to try and learn more about Bali’s history and heritage. I wish I had read the trip advisor reviews in advance...

We arrived and were directed to the ticket desk where there were two men, one behind the desk and one next to desk who asked us where we were from. We paid 50k each which was fairly ok. The man next to the desk then ushered us away and started giving us a tour, which we (maybe naively) presumed was included in the price we had just paid. It all seemed fairly legitimate as he acted as if he was one of the museum staff.

He then proceeded to take us on a nearly 2 hour tour of what is, quite frankly, a very small museum. The details were interesting at first but he seemed to have a 5 minute story for every single artifact behind the glass and as time went on we were a bit fed up, hungry and sticky from the heat. We were also being constantly hounded by people trying to sell things, after saying no time and time again. It was beginning to seem to be a bit of a tourist trap.

That being said, our “tour guide” was kind enough and offered to take pictures and we were too polite to disrupt his stories, although now knowing what I know, I wonder how much of his information was genuine :(

At the end of the tour he took us to a tower with steep steps, one way in and out (which I have now read he’s done in other reviews here) and cornered us saying that tourism is bad at the moment and after us he probably won’t have a job for a few weeks. He then told us that a tour guide is 20 usd and that we had to pay him. When we expressed our shock at this and told him we had already paid for our tickets, he got aggressive! we didn’t have much cash left on us and told him that and he said he would walk us to an ATM which we refused.

He led us out of the museum grounds with irritation and aggression, and it left a bitter taste in our mouth that ruined the overall experience I’m afraid. If you go - ensure that you reject the offer of a guide and make your own way round the museum unless you are willing to pay the extra.‬

‪Too much hassle from traders‬
بمفردك • سبتمبر 2019
‪Interesting museum, with some fascinating exhibits.

Entrance cost 50k for a foreigner.

Wanted to go at my own pace, have time to think, and retrace my steps at certain points if I wanted to. I therefore decline the offer of a guide (actually, no offer of services had been made or discussed in any way; he just decided he was going to tag along), and immediately all of the welcoming smiles disappeared.

Exhibits are spread through several buildings, write-ups are also in English.

Visit was spoiled by the constant hassle from vendors, trying to sell things, hence the low rating that I have given. It really made it quite a stressful experience, I don’t understand why the museum allow this. ‬
