Il parco combina un paesaggio straordinariamente bello con un percorso multistrato di arte e religione che risale a oltre 3000 anni fa. Le imponenti formazioni rocciose del parco dall'aspetto di funghi erano probabilmente il lavoro di erosione che ha avuto luogo quando il terreno è stato immerso sotto un oceano milioni di anni fa. Stretti "steli" di arenaria in qualche modo sostengono il peso di pezzi di roccia più duri e più grandi in alto. Tra tremila e quattromila anni fa, persone di origine misteriosa dipingevano quadri di animali, figure umane e disegni geometrici su molte grotte, con le più conosciute situate a Tham Wua e Tham Khon. I siti potrebbero essere stati utilizzati per cerimonie religiose che coinvolgono un mix di riti animisti, indù e buddisti. Il Mon - e forse più tardi i Khmer - ha anche scolpito diverse immagini di Buddha in piccole grotte e fessure. Molti di questi furono parzialmente distrutti dagli invasori dello Yunnan alla fine del 1800, ma un'immagine eccezionale rimane intatta a Tham Phra. Punteggiato da un "tetto" finemente intagliato sormontato da quelle che sembrano essere sette raffigurazioni più piccole di monaci, l'immagine è in qualche modo nascosta in una stretta nicchia. Portatevi acqua, quando il caldo è eccessivo, e rimanete all'ombra per un po'.

Phu Prabhat Historical Park far exceeded my expectations! We arrived just as a downpour ended and the staff were gracious in lending us umbrellas and giving us a golf cart ride to the main attraction, some 400-500 meters inside the park. From there, we walked thoughout the area, enjoying the gravity-defying rock formations that have served as places of shelter, meeting, ceremony, and religion for different peoples over the past 2,000 to 3,000 years. I was particularly fascinated by the many petroglyphs and pictographs at various locations in the park. If ancient pictographs interest you, but sure to walk the added distance to the Tham Khon and Tham Wua shelters, that contain outstanding pictographs of human figures and animals. These are the best pictographs I've seen in Thailand. These are a few hundred meters away from the main grouping of rock formations, but are well worth the effort to walk to them. The return walk to the parking area, through the forest on a well-maintained trail, is very pleasant. Entrance to the park is 100 baht for foreign visitors and 20 baht for Thais.

We enjoyed our experience at the Phu Prabhat Historical Park in Udon Thani which featured some amazing natural rock formations throughout the park. Some of these formations seemed to defy gravity which made for some amazing photos. I also enjoyed that the park had mapped out a fantastic hiking trail to go from one rock formation to the next. We arrived late in the day when the place was practically empty and we trudged our way to the remotest and most beautiful end of the park on a cliff overlooking the valley with an incredible sun set. The park seemed to have ample signs with directions on where to go which I appreciated. I would love to visit this park again in the future to enjoy the historical site as well as get some exercise.

After driving (and get lost) for about 1.5 hr from Udon thani, we finally reached Phu phra bat historical park (when it was about to close). Entrance fee was 20 baht for Thai and 100 baht for foreigner. Here, we experienced a beautiful landscape, strange rock formations, traces of ancient civilization such as cave paintings and antique Buddha statues, and some local folktales (tragedy of U-sa). Very interesting site, pity that we had only 1 hr here.

A highlight of our Udon Thani trip. We walked around for a couple of hours and brought a picnic to eat for lunch. There is good signage around the site written in English to explain the history of the stones and the cave paintings. There is also modern and well designed information centre next to the car park. I would recommend taking some lunch/snacks with you as there is only one small shop.

ภูพระบาท แหล่งประวัติศาสตร์ของจังหวัดอุดร มีหินรูปทรงแปลก ๆ มีภาพเขียนสี มีภูมิทัศน์ที่สวยงาม ที่จอดรถสะดวก เจ้าหน้าที่ให้คำแนะนำดี มีเส้นทางธรรมชาติให้เดินรอบเล็ก กลาง ใหญ่ รอบใหญ่ใช้เวลาเดินประมาณ 2 ชั่วโมง ห้องน้ำที่นี่สะอาดมาก

ノーンカイから車で1時間強かかりました。
入場料は1人100バーツで、入口の受付の方にコースと所要時間を地図で案内頂きました。45分〜2時間のコースを選ぶことができるようで私は最短の45分コースを選びました。
多数写真が掲載されている一番有名な奇岩は45分コースに含まれています。その奇岩の周りにも多数の奇岩があり、それらを見れば十分になる方が多いと思います。
こちらの一番有名な奇岩は、キノコっぽい形がトルコ・カッパドキアの奇岩に似ていると思いました。カッパドキアにはその奇岩がたくさんあるのでスケールが異なりますが。
イサーン北部を旅される方は、是非こちらにも立ち寄られた方が良いと思います。

we made a two days (three nights) stop in Udon Thani, among others for a day visit to Phu Prabhat. And it was more then worth it. what amazing rock formations and some prehistoric drawings. I really hope they will make it on the official UNESCO World Heritage list.

Nice place to wander if you enjoy simple hiking and checking out ancient rocks.
It’s about 2 hours drive from the town. And it’s best if you had your own transport, or hire someone to drive you.
It was generally quiet with not too many people when I visited.
Bring along a hat or umbrella to help provide shade from the sun. Going earlier may also allow you to escape from the intensity of the afternoon sun.
The toilets at the entrance are very clean and modern. There’s also a shop that sells some snacks and drinks at very reasonable prices.

This place is pretty big and hence will need about 1.5-2 hours to cover most of the sites and time to take photos. Here you can see ancient rock paintings from 2,000-3,000 years ago. Also nice rock formation and ancient religious place.

My friends and I hired a car and driver for the day.
This was our best option as he knew exactly how to get there, as it’s a bit hard to find.

Hi, I plan to visit Phu Prabhat Historical Park when I am in Udon Thani come Jan. Does it require any hiking or it's on flat land. Thanks

Good afternoon,
The pathways are well done and sanded or on stone for most part. it is mostly flat if you do the main sites with a few stairs or uneven sections.
If you go on the least travelled sections ( which entrance are close to the monastery with the golden buddha foot print a few mins motorcycle from the main entrance of the parc ). There could be more serious ups and downs and hikes. but with the small/medium/big loops you are already in for at least 3 to 4 hours.
overall a good pair of shoe will do the trick - lots ofwater and a good hat as some section are not shaded.
It was a very enjoyable day and a nicely done park with english explanations.
