Come and visit the beautiful 600+ acres of land overlooking Sodus Bay and experience the community's animal rescue and sanctuary that provides love and shelter for over 200 farm animals. Enjoy the place every time I go. It is a really interesting mix: a large and farm animal shelter with the animals front and center, a bunch of historic buildings going back to Shaker days and lots of room for hiking and being in nature.

My husband and I love the trails, the animal sanctuary aspect, and the wonderful historical buildings, all of which make Cracker Box Palace at Alasa Farms a unique nonprofit. It's a wonderful place to bring the family and friends to learn about animals, land, and history. Add it to your Sodus Bay itinerary!

Cracker box palace at historic Alasa farm. A community operated farm since 2011 is a no kill large animal shelter that is dedicated to helping Wayne county farm animals recover from illness, neglect, abuse and find forever homes. Cracker box palace is home to around 150 animals that you can visit, feed appropriate treats to and even volunteer to take care of. Cracker box palace also has miles of hiking trails, 200 years of history and lots of opportunities fir families and kids. We love spending time with the animals, supporting events and seeing the trails. Everytime you go, there's new animals, improvements and historic preservation. Something for the whole family to enjoy.

I visited Cracker Box Palace during a family visit to Sodus Point NY. The facility is SO interesting - full of history and wonderful, healthy animals who are clearly loved and well cared for. I have nothing but the highest praise for the people who work and volunteer there. The old barns are fascinating in and of themselves, as is the old homestead house (which is sadly in terrible disrepair). Be sure to pick up a self guided tour map from the main office - it helps to orient you to the history of the property. They have goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, a few rabbits and WONDERFUL horses & mules. Please be respectful of the guidelines for feeding (or not). On the "unique" side of the coin, the "bunkhouse" building is simply bizarre. Guests are allowed to walk into the building and use the restrooms. Several of the rooms look like hippy pads from 1979. They are trashed and full of old furniture, clothes, sheets a blankets - just eerie. There are signs on the walls about the "rules" to staying overnight - I am not sure what that is about. The dining room is interesting as are the two resident cats. There is an admin office at the front with a very nice young woman staffing it when we were there, but none of the volunteers seem to know anything about the property. That is fine -they are volunteers and perhaps answering history questions for curious visitors is simply not a priority when there are so many animals to care for. I understand that completely. The property also includes a U-Pick farm and BREATHTAKING views of Sodus Bay. There is also a camp ground but we did not visit that location. WELL worth the visit and FREE - but please leave a contribution if you can. They have big dreams and have a long way to go to get there.

The name caught my interest and animal welfare has always been near to my heart, so this place was a natural draw for me. Friendly staff along with helpful maps and brochures made this a relaxing and enjoyable place to reconnect with nature that you just don't get close to once you are out of the rural areas. It was fun to be a kid again and talk to the animals and to see neglected and mistreated now getting the care they need.

Cracker Box Palace is a farm sanctuary / no-kill animal rescue in western New York. They have horses, goats, cows, pigs, chickens, peacocks, rabbits... All kinds of animals that have been rescued from dreadful conditions, rehabilitated, and are cared for or fostered / adopted out to appropriate homes.
There is no fee to visit the farm, but I would recommend a donation, and also that visitors phone/email before going to ensure it is a good time to visit (they are staffed for the animals, not as much for people, but they do have regular events [International Rabbit Day, Halloween trick-or-treating, apple picking...] where they welcome the public).

This is the "Lollypop Farms" for farm animals. Those that have been abandoned or abused get to live their lives out here in the barns and in the fields. Such great work they are doing.

When I was there I saw lots of goats and pigs, plus a Gobbler Turkey. They do their best to provide for these animals which are up for adoption.

This has been an endeavor of love by local volunteers and concerned citizens. It has gone through several transitions through the years, always improving. You can just feel the love of the people involved for the animals they're so successfully helping. They have kept their focus on farm animals; horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, rabbits, chickens etc, no dogs or cats. Animals are rescued from horrific conditions, nursed to health and then found homes for. Their physical plant has been improved, and through several varied fund raisers and grants, they have been able to survive and flourish. Wonderful place to visit.
