景色がいいと人気のスポット弥彦山へ
山頂には2つのルートがあり、今回はロープウェイを使わないコースで登山 10分ぐらいで山頂に到着 山頂食堂で軽食もあり景色も最高でした。子供の遊具もあり、子供連れにもおすすめです。さらに山頂神社に向かって20分ぐらいウォーキングコースには里山と日本海が一望できるスポットもあるので神秘でした

弥彦山スカイラインで山頂にある駐車場まで車でいき、そこからは歩いて展望レストランの脇を通って山道を登ります。
途中NHK や新潟ローカル局の電波塔があります。
階段が急で息が切れますが、登りきった所に弥彦神社の奥の院があり、またそこからはあまり見慣れない、国上山、大河津分水や寺泊側の景観がとても綺麗でした。

自然を相手にするのは難しいですね。夕日と紅葉を目的に訪問したんですが、紅葉は始まったばかりで、晴れてはいましたが地上付近の水蒸気が多くて夕日の色は完全に赤くなるほどの光量がありませんでした。海の向こうには佐渡島がうっすらとしか見えない状態でした。カラーが足りない！とはいえ夕日と紅葉を目的に旅するには良い場所と思いますよ。

秋晴れの日弥彦山に登ってみました。上へ上へ続く階段で元気なの子供達だけ、息がきれるけれど、その都度新鮮な空気が身体を巡るし、鳥の鳴き声も応援歌のよう、登りきった眺めには面白い雲がご褒美をくれました。

弥彦山のロープウェイを降りて、山道を20分ほど歩くと神社が。弥彦神社の奥の院だそうで、それは威厳があります。御朱印も書いてもらえます。おすすめですよ。

弥彦神社のご神体です。ロープウェィで登ることが出来、頂上に上がると日本海、佐渡島、そして新潟平野、そしてその向こうの山々が一望できます。

My wife and I were staying at Iwamuro Onsen and learned that the drive to Yakiho-san was beautiful. The leaves were just changing, and the drive was uncrowded and curvy. We enjoyed every vista, and would encourage all visitor to spend the extra time to visit the summit.
We did not use the tower observatory -- it was not clear to us what one would see on the tower versus what we saw from the summit. Still, one should not miss this experience.

新潟の海沿いにあ標高650メートル程度の山が弥彦山です。そんなに標高は高くありませんが、周囲が開けているため眺めは絶景です。日本海から佐渡島、そして越後平野と向こうの山々の両方の景色を楽しめます。山頂までは弥彦スカイラインで車で行けます。

山の日に友人たちと弥彦山登山。
まずは彌彦神社に参拝してから、頂上の御神廟へ。
天気も良くて、山の緑にも癒されました。
頂上からの景色も最高！

Note: you may want to spend at least 5 hours there if you're intending to explore the trails up and down Mt. Yahiko. But if you're taking the train via the Yahiko Line, please note the last train's daily departure time before you begin. Plan it well, start your day early in the morning :) Another thing to note is that the ropeway is not wheelchair-accessible, and steep stairs await the visitor at the summit station. The surrounding area is also not wheelchair accessible.
I took the long way to get to Mt Yahiko. I stopped at Yoshida Station on the Echigo Line, and decided to walk the 2+Km to the shrine. I really didn't want to sit for 40 minutes to wait for the train on the Yahiko Line, which has long intervals between departures from the Yoshida Station.
But it was an enjoyable walk, and I managed to get the sights of the countryside and the landscape, and the flora and fauna thriving by the side of the road. Reaching the Yahiko shrine at the base of Mt Yahiko, I was surprised to find an exhibition of chrysanthemums coinciding with a local festival, with many varieties and colours of beautifully arranged chrysanthemum bloooms on display.
I then made my way to the ropeway station for the ride up, and visited the summit of Mt. Yahiko. Sure, it's kinda costly with separate tickets for the various attractions up the mountain and at the top, and some may find it a tourist trap, but it really is a very, very beautiful view from the top (Pssst: you may not want to try the observation wheel ride at the top). Food up there is also expensive too.
If you want to skip the rope way, you can find the trails to take you to the top, which may take up to 2 hours to climb. If you took the ropeway, at the top you'll find trails that take you to various parts of the mountain. In November it can get cold, drizzly, and windy, so bring a jacket to block out the cold and rain. But undoubtedly, this is somewhere where you can get a wonderful view of Sado Island in the distance, with the Sea of Japan surrounding it. It can also be a very lovely picnic spot, as you can see from my pictures.
