Located in the center of Kurashiki Bikan district, "Ohara Museum of Art" looks like a Greek temple. I visited there once when I was young, but there was an opportunity to revisit it. Admission to private museums is 2,000 yen from 9 p.m. Nevertheless, I am overwhelmed by the number of paintings and artefacts I have collected with the financial support I have made a fortune from. It was about an hour's viewing, but the floor, decorations and construction of the craft museum building are also worth seeing.

We visited Kurashiki Town as a morning excursion while on a tour in Japan. It is a lovely town and we were there first thing in the morning so it was also very empty which increased our enjoyment immensely. We visited the Ohara Museum which has a collection of western art including impressionist paintings. The museum has a very nice layout and flows smoothly. While in the area, I would suggest spending half your time visiting the shops, looking at the residences of Samurai warriors and their families, and definitely would recommend enjoying some of the amazing sorbets sold there. I had one that was chunks of peaches and it was great.

Most of the paintings and vases can only be viewed through glass. If they suspect customers are up to no good, there's no need to show them; they can just keep them hidden in the storehouse.
Looking through glass is far from true appreciation, and it seems stingy and annoying.
Perhaps to make customers come back multiple times, only a portion of the collection can be viewed, which seems stingy and annoying.
I paid 2,000 yen and it was just an unpleasant experience.

Recently, whenever I travel, I often visit art museums in those places. This time, I got a JAL dynamic package and the admission fee was 500 yen instead of the usual 2,000 yen, so I got it without hesitation. I'm a complete amateur when it comes to art, but looking at beautiful things moves me. Also, it's hard to find a quiet environment, so it's good for calming the mind.
Thank you very much.

Founded by Kurashiki businessman Ohara Magosaburo, this is Japan's first private Western art museum. It displays many famous Western masterpieces, including works by famous artists El Greco, Claude Monet, Renoir, and Gauguin. I'm glad I had the opportunity to stop by when I was in Kurashiki.

I was so happy because I had always wanted to go there.
I wish the souvenir shop had a lot of original products.
The cafe next door had a great atmosphere.

The artworks, the space, the atmosphere of the museum staff, everything was wonderful.
I hope you enjoy the paintings in your own way and with your own preferences...
You can buy admission tickets at the front desk of the Kurashiki International Hotel just behind the museum, for a 10% discount (1,800 yen instead of the regular price of 2,000 yen).
*It seems that you could previously buy tickets at the Family Mart at the entrance to the scenic area, but they no longer sell them.

Excellent collections of the most famous European artists! Couldn't believe we were looking at the originals. Representative pieces!

The first private museum in Japan to exhibit Western art.
Why is there a museum in Kurashiki that has Cezanne, Renoir, Gauguin, Monet, Pissarro, and Picasso ORIGINALS hanging on the walls? Why is there an El Greko original Annunciation painting hanging here? They even have a couple of Jackson Pollok on display.
There is also the Kojima wing. A good artist in his own right but he is also the artist that traveled to Europe to obtain all these great pieces using Ohara's money.
They are currently assembling an Egyptian artifact wing. There are some interesting Egyptian art pieces intermixed with Kojima's art display.
The annex building houses Japanese historical stoneware pieces, paper art, silk art, and linen art.
While the other exhibits were interesting. The permanent art exhibits are mind-blowing.
No photos are allowed inside the building. They don't even allow you to make notes with a pen (they will supply you with a pencil if needed)
The ¥2,000 price of admission was well worth it.
