2泊3日の桜見物のツアーで通りました。洞爺湖の南に位置する活火山です。標高が737メートルあり遠くからもその姿を確認する事ができます。今でも活発に活動する活火山で数十年前には洞爺地区に甚大な被害を与えたのも記憶に新しいです。

This place is a must go! We walked to the base of the mountain where you can get a cable car up to the top. Great views overall and the first time I’ve been on a “live” volcano. Couldn’t do the walk around the crater as the trail was covered in 3 feet of snow but still worth the visit

Mount Usu and Shōwa-shinzan are major tourist attractions in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park. A ropeway on Mount Usu takes visitors to viewing platforms overlooking Shōwa-shinzan. Unlike some whom hiked up, we were with a tour gp and took the ropeway up.. Just near the top station there is a Mt Usu café and we followed the crowd to get our hot kohi at 450Yen, to enjoy at the high altitude of 1370m. There is an established Viewing Platform Terrace which is the most elaborate and functional I have came across; there are sofa seats and even some tables, all outdoor. What a way to enjoy the Lake Toya & Shows shinzan at leisure!
Noted that there is a second observation deck a short walk away to view the Usu crater basin, which we did not venture to. we just hang around and chill out at the cold Autumn breezed passed us. Slightly more than 30 mins and we took the ropeway down.

2021年6月にグランドオープンしたというMt. USUテラスは有珠山ロープウェイ有珠山山頂から右手に坂を少し登って行ったところにありました。
晴れていれば、左に洞爺湖、右に昭和新山を見下ろす絶景スポットです。あいにくの強風と雨で視界はよくなかったですが、洞爺湖と昭和新山を見ることはできました。

ロープウェイに乗って、洞爺湖と反対側に舗装された道を歩き、火口原展望台へ。緑がまだ美しい時期でしたが、散策路から離れた山肌や荒涼とした風景はどこか他の星のようにも見えました。展望台のその先には有珠山外輪遊歩道の木段が続き、活火山の一面が見られます。そしてこの遊歩道、体力と時間のある方にお勧めします。

外輪山の遊歩道を有珠山の噴火口を見ながら、のんびりと歩くのに最高でした。

洞爺湖温泉街のすぐ南に位置している有珠山。活発に活動している活火山で、私が生まれた後も、昭和５２年と平成１２年に噴火しています。
噴火に伴って災害をもたらす山ですが、現在はロープウェイが山頂近くまで運行されていますし、温泉という恩恵も私たちに与えてくれる山です。また、前回の噴火の跡である「西山火口」も見ることができました。

A wonderful hike on a very well maintained trail. Very hard to get lost with all the trail signs and amazingly beautiful. Once you reach the rim the hike becomes a little easier. You will not run out views to take pictures of. Besides the active volcano you also have great views of the Pacific Ocean. If you hike all the way to the Ropeway you have a totally different view of Lake Toya and a nice little coffee shop.

有珠山は、洞爺湖の南岸にある活火山です。標高737mの山で、有珠山ロープウェイも通っている観光の山ですが、数十年ごとに噴火を繰り返している山でもあります。
前回の噴火は2000年に起きたもので、現在は洞爺湖温泉街の南側にある西山火口として見ることができるんです。洞爺湖畔に温泉が湧き出ている原動力でもあるこの山を、今回は、有珠山噴火記念公園から眺めました。

ロープウェイで来ることができます。洞爺湖や昭和新山・羊蹄山が見える大パノラマの展望台から散策路を歩くと、噴火口や噴火湾が見渡せるビューポイントがあります。
生きている火山であることがわかる場所です。

It was open daily in February 2019. Although the schedule for 2020 is not yet published, we would assume it would be the same as in 2019.
usuzan. hokkaido. jp/en/#SCHEDULE shows the published schedule and times for first trip up.
There is a short hike once you summit as well as beautiful views. Be prepared to see lots of snow in February. I would plan on spending about 90 minutes on top depending on how cold it is when you summit.

The ropeway to Usuzan departs from "Kazan-Mura", a small town of souvenir shops at the foot of Showa Shinzan. From Toyako Onsen, it can be reached in 10 minutes by car or taxi (about 2000 yen one way) or in 15 minutes by bus from Toyako Onsen (15 minutes, 340 yen one way, one bus every two hours, no service from early November to late April). japan guide's website guide e6726 has more details
