‪The whole Hakone loop is pretty interesting in the different forms of transport. It was cloudy and rainy so nothing to do here but eat the black eggs, which taste like regular eggs. I enjoyed the concept of taking a rope car and a cable car but the weather just made the destination not as grand as we couldn’t see anything.‬

‪We were at Ashinoko Lake and took the cable car up. There are a few Ropeway in the region where one can view the various beautiful sites of Hakone, more specially the Valley! The Hakone - Owakudani Ropeway is the aerial lift we took and there are 2 sections: one from the Sounzan station to Owakudani station, the other from Owakudani station to Togendai station. We were reminded repeatedly by the tour manager only to exit at the 2nd (higher) one!
The Owakudani station will take you to 1000+ m above sea level during the ride, total about 30 minutes travel. Along the way we enjoyed many scenic spots view of Owakudani Valley, the famous active sulfuric valley which heats up the many hot springs around the area. It was drizzling so no visibility of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi on the way down from the ride.

The observation platform offers breathtaking views of Owakudani which is one of Hakone’s most famous tourist spot. Traveling from Sounzan to Owakudani, passengers can see the bottom of the valley below, when on route to Togendai it will be views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi. An amazing journey with a carpet of beautiful greenery underneath, but ours much muted cuz of the drizzling… sigh
So we limit ourselves to take photography within the sheltered area and also brave the large crowd at the souvenir shops, so much snacks, T-shirts to get. Here the Weekend tourists packed the Owakudani valley, thronged both the Souvenir shops and food court at the visitors' center. The best offering will be the kuro-tamago — black-shelled eggs boiled in volcanic hot springs. The blackness due to the ashes so available cuz of the volcanic activities.

A pity we missed a cable car ride on the Hakone Ropeway feature panoramic Mount Fuji views on most clear days. We’ll be back.
From here we took the tour coach to our lunch!‬

‪Perhaps one of the most unusual places I've been to. To begin with, as soon as you leave the lift, you smell a strong sulfur smell. This is not surprising, considering that there are many pipes sticking out of the ground here, from which steam pours out. This is a rather unusual landscape. The closest thing that comes to mind is a quarry. There is no vegetation around except for yellow bushes and grass. Massive clouds of steam emerge straight from the ground, merging with the clouds. It's a little difficult to breathe. And yet there was something majestic and grandiose in this landscape. I wanted to stand for a while and admire it. Despite the spring, it was quite cold. About 5-10 *C. Luckily, nearby they sold hot drink amazake and delicious food like black pork buns and, of course, the famous black eggs boiled in a hot spring, which are said to add 7 years to life. They taste quite tasty, although you shouldn't expect much. My friend and I also bought black soft-serve ice cream. Nothing special, but the color is certainly unusual. After a snack we went to a small geology museum. It was especially interesting to study how the hot spring works there. Before returning, I bought “Yunohana” at a local souvenir shop, a powder that you can add to your bath and get something similar to a hot spring. We were pleased with the visit, although we are unlikely to come there again if we are just passing by.‬

‪The startling sulfur fields are typically seen when riding the Hakone ropeway to view Mt. Fuji. For people not expecting the sulfur vents, it is a particularly striking unworldly scene. Sulfur mining is still going on in the area and the hot water from the geothermal pools is used to boil the famous "black eggs" sold at the top of Mt. Hakone.‬

‪On approach via the cable car the dead forests are the first thing you notice, the smell of Sulfur. Once again this is a tourist hot spot so lots of people, but it is worth the view. It is stated not to stay longer than 15 minutes due to the Sulfur. Incredible to watch all the tourists eating the black eggs. Saying is that you extend you life by seven years if you consume one of these eggs - but no refund if it doesn't work!‬

I found myself letting out the voice of surprise seeing the view from Ropeway Car.
The sight of smoke billing out of the valley was really powerful.
I visited on a clear day in December, and I was able to enjoy the view of snow-capped Mt.FUJI!!

‪Views were stunning, Museum was informative. Winds were too strong for us to enjoy our time there. We signed up for a guided walk into the research area which was cancelled for safety reasons due to the strong winds. It would have been an amazing opportunity. You can sign up at the official website (for free). Can consider giving the black eggs a skip - we bought and it tasted like normal eggs. You can also take a good picture of Mt Fuji (if skies are clear) at the carpark (there is a platform in the middle of the carpark). Food is considerably pricy at this location - bring along your own food or plan your lunch/meals in other areas. ‬

‪The wind was so strong that both the ropeway and buses were suspended. We walked through the mountains for nearly an hour.
There was barely any smell of sulfur.

‪A must go place for anyone in the region. Nice walk around. Food scene is not great unlike most other places but that's not what you are here for‬

‪It is undoubtedly a cool sight, to see the sulphurous vents spewing forth from the earth; the forest of dead trees poisoned by the noxious gases, and the other-worldly industrial structures surrounding the vents.

However the entire place reeks of egg (Sulphur), and so will you - for several hours (days?) afterwards.

Worth a brief visit, but immediately wash your clothes afterwards!‬
