My first visit to Yomeimon Gate was in December 2002 and it was snowing quite heavily on that day. I remembered being mesmerised by the intricate beauty of this gate. I visited again in October 2023 but somehow cannot enjoy the beauty of this gate due to the crowd and the long queue to buy the tickets of 1300 yen each.
My friend and I bought the Nikko Pass All area online and we activated it on the day of use. This saved us the hassle of buying it at the office at Asakusa. It is valid for four days and includes other rides beside the train to and back from Nikko to Asakusa.
As our JR pass was still valid on the day of use, we took the shinkansen to Nikko. The pass covered all our bus rides in Nikko. We stayed a night at Lake Chuzenji so that we could walk many trails in Okunikko. The next day we paid extra 1550 yen each so that we could take the limited express train in 2 hours back to Asakusa. This pass is really value for money and it is very convenient to use. I would highly recommend this pass if a visit to Nikko includes Okunikko.

Meine hohen Erwartungen wurden noch übertroffen. Dieser kunstvoll geschnitzte Schrein ist ein Meisterwerk. Na konnte sich nicht satt sehen . Immer wieder entdeckt man neue prunktvolle Schnitzereien

Prächtig, mehr kann man nicht dazu sagen. Die beiden Tempelwächter sind kunstvoll geschnitzt, das Dach des Tores ein einziges Kunstwerk. Damit es nicht zu perfekt wirkt und damit die Götter erzürnt (nur denen gebührt Perfektion), ist eine Säule im Innenbereich auf den Kopf gestellt. Originell.

紅葉の時期の日曜日の観光客はとても多くびっくりしました。やっぱり陽明門が綺麗なんでしょう。何度か行きましたが、門の前や横で豪華さに見とれてしまいます。

いつも通りの輝きで素晴らしかったです。やはり家康のお墓まで参拝していただきたいです。石段の石がすべて一枚でできていて、さすが家康のお墓。と感心させられます。

日光東照宮の中で最も目を引く建築物の一つ。白色の柱と黒と金を基調とした唐破風の屋根、隅々に至るまで緻密に掘られた彫刻は、遠くから見ても間近で見ても素晴らしいの一言に尽きる。一方で最も記念撮影等で観光客が立ち止まる場所でもあることから、常に混雑するスポットの一つと言える。
彫刻は、単に幾何学的な模様だけでなく、人物や想像上の動物等多岐に渡る。もし門の彫刻をつぶさに鑑賞したい場合、双眼鏡などを持つといいだろう。様々な角度から、あるいは光の入り方によって見え方も異なり、来るたびに新たな発見を感じるだろう。

The white pillars, black and gold tiled roofs, and the intricate carvings are simply amazing, whether seen from a distance or up close. On the other hand, it's one of the most crowded spots because it's the most popular place for tourists to stop and take pictures.
The carvings include not only geometric patterns, but also a wide variety of figures and imaginary animals. If you want to see the carving on the gate in detail, it's a good idea to bring binoculars. You will be able to feel and discover the interesting difference, if you see it in different angles or each time you visit!
