【桜門橋】は 【姫路城】観光において 記念撮影ﾎﾟｲﾝﾄとして ﾋﾟｯﾀﾘです。こちらを撮影時 嬉しいのは 電線や周囲の近代的建築物が 撮影画面に入らず、【桜門橋】に【大手門】や【姫路城・大天守】を重ねた景観も撮影できるからです。 又 【姫路城】のｲﾒｰｼﾞを損なわないように 《木装橋》であることも 訪問者にとっては嬉しい配慮です。

現在の大手門前に有る橋です。出土した遺構を活かしながら、江戸時代の木製の橋をイメージして造られたそうです。

姫路城内に入るための最初に渡る橋。
江戸時代、大手門には内濠を渡るために木橋が架けられていた。
今の桜門橋は江戸時代の木橋をイメージして復活させた。
幅7m、長さ22mだが、堀の水も豊かで、いかにも名城の入り口にふさわしい。

普通に渡ろうとするとアスファルト敷きの橋ですが、真横から見ると木造橋に見える上に天守閣が橋の向こうに見えて恰好良かったです。

The bridge is small and simple, but it offers a nice view of Himeji Castle sitting above the stone walls of the moat. The water was especially beautiful and blue on the morning I went. The bridge is free to cross and leads to the main gate of the castle.

The Sakuramon Bridge should be the main passageway going to Himeji Castle. The timber bridge was the first photo-stop for tourists who wanted to take a photo of the white-colored castle at a distance.

After walking from the railroad station along Otemae Street, Himeji’s main thoroughfare, toward the castle, we finally reached Sakuramon Bridge. This wooden pedestrian span signaled our arrival at the Himeji Castle complex. A replica of the simple Edo Period wooden bridge, this one only went up in 2007. Fairly narrow and straight, it crosses the castle’s moat and leads to the main entry gate.
Before crossing, we paused to take in the idyllic scene. A small boat glided in the water below, with two passengers. A third occupant stood, using a pole to steer the craft. This appeared to be a ride for tourists. In the distance, the castle provided a backdrop for the bridge.
Few people joined us on the bridge this October weekday morning. I have been here when the castle’s myriad cherry trees are in bloom and had to join a huge crowd on the span. This time, it was a pleasure to walk across at a normal pace and to pass through the Otemon gate with ease.
