‪There are two sections. The history section - while the exhibits are nothing special, the tunnels are interestingly curated. The 3D section - maybe because we were the only ones, but we had extremely warm and helpful service. This museum is highly recommended. ‬

‪Follow the tunnel for a well presented overview on Penang history, before engaging in the fun photography part. Be sure your mobile is charged! ‬

‪Bit disappointed in this. Seeing pictures, we were expecting to see a river there, so bit boring really.‬

‪JenHotel conceriage Deen has suggested for us to go to time tunnel musum before our flight to KL. We took his advice and we have enjoyed the mix between state museum and upside down musum‬

‪We went really to pass some time between other activities we had booked but were so glad we did, it was great fun.
The turbulent history of Penang and its various stages of occupation and its wartime challenges were explained through signage, artefacts, pictures and video displays. It was also great to see so many pictures of ‘them and now’ to see how little some areas have actually changed over the decades. To be honest the only thing confusing is the association with any form of tunnel, we didn’t see why it needed to be set in a series of ‘tunnels’.
The second section is pure fun so get the camera ready and start posing for a whole range of interactive photos against luminous 3D backgrounds. Just trust the guide at each section when they get you to pose and wait for the end result.
It’s not a sales scam, they use you phone/camera, they are simply there to help.
Educational with some wacky fun thrown in. Great place to visit.‬

‪The first part of the museum consisted of more traditional museum displays with sculptures and panels describing the history of Penang. Unfortunately, the group I was with was not willing to slow down and read the panels. Nonetheless, I believe it can be an informative and comprehensive exhibition for interested visitors. The second part of the museum consisted of murals and props for taking quirky photos. The staff was enthusiastic and helpful in directing us on how to pose as well as snapping photos for us on our devices. It was a fun place for our group to get some humorous and cute photos, though we did get tired of posing towards the end. You can download a discount voucher from the official website, which will allow you to pay RM 2 less per person. You can also get a free postcard if you like and share the official Facebook page.‬

‪Really didn't understand why the first part of this experience was set in a tunnel. Trying to read the information by the light of a small lamp was quite honestly ridiculous! It would have been much more interesting if it had just been a normal sort of museum and I would have been much more willing to linger to read everything. Instead I just wanted to get out! Then we were put through various poses in front of murals on the walls and this went on for over an hour! It was tedious and what started out as being a bit of fun ended with all five of us desperate to get out! Not to be repeated!!‬

‪The Penang Time Tunnel (sometimes called the Penang Tunnel Museum In brochures and on the internet) is a museum split into two parts. The first part contains artifacts, photos, wax figures and recreated scenes that describe interesting aspects of Penang’s history like its pre-colonial period that are not described often in travel guides or how Penang was resistant to joining the Malayan Federation initially.

The information panels are quite detailed and if any of you have young children, there are kid-friendlier versions on about 60-70% of the information panels which offer shorter and accessible explanations. If you want something shorter and easier to digest, each photograph, artifact etc has a short information plaque describing them.

The second part involves visitors posing in different ways either from cool to hilarious amongst various interactive and trick-eye artworks. The staff members were very professional and helpful, often taking at least two photos so you have options to choose from.
Most of the artworks and poses were quite fun to take with, although some of them stood out more than others.

That being said, I enjoyed this museum a lot than expected as it provided a nice mixture of cultural learning, physical fun, laughter and rest from the hot weather!

Here are some of my suggestions regarding either the interactive artworks or other aspects of the museum:

1. Feel free to come up with your own poses for the photographs! Although the staff members give good suggested poses, they are more than happy to allow you to go freestyle.
2. The interactive artworks that I would recommend to others to try more are the Star Wars one, Piloting a Spaceship, Falling from a Building or Being Scared of a Giant
3. If you are unsure of where to find this museum, look out for a Starbucks cafe located in a shophouse. Once you see that, turn right and keep to the left side of the road and you will eventually find the museum.
