Long post ahead but here's a TL;DR: lots of miscommunications between Mystery Manila staff members of the BGC and Century City Mall branches + lack of gamekeepers/staff to monitor the game rooms + spoiling of game immersion + delayed game room mechanisms
This is the first time my friends and I tried out an escape room, but our experience makes us not want to visit this particular branch again. Here are the reasons why:
1. We originally wanted to play Terror In The Theater at the BGC branch. However, it was cancelled two hours before our scheduled time due to a staff emergency (our schedule was 2:30 PM, the staff texted us at around 12nn). Instead of rescheduling, we opted to move to the Century City branch and play there (we chose Debby's Doll for this one). My friend asked for a refund and said she'll book another schedule online for Debby's Doll. However, the person handling the BGC branch said they'll make calls and inform the Century City MM staff that we'll be playing there instead and that we can get excess payment from the CC branch (Terror In The Theater costed us Php2.5k, Debby's Doll was only Php 2,250).
2. My friends arrived at the CC branch first. When they got there and talked with the supervisor, who we won't be able to play Debby's Doll at the time we wanted (3pm) and that the best available time was at 6pm. One of my friends asked why since we were under the impression that the BGC MM staff already informed the CC staff that we will be arriving and playing at 3pm. The CC staff said they only knew we were coming (I don't know why they didn't think about reserving the room). The supervisor tried to see if he can accommodate us with the room and schedule we wanted but to no avail.
3. The staff and my friend kept going back and forth with that discussion until we said that it's okay if we played at 6pm instead. However, the supervisor also insisted we play another room (Alien Assault) instead of Debby's Doll. We refused and said we'll play Debby's Doll at 6pm. He kept insisting and even said he'll give us free shirts even if we don't solve the room. We kept refusing but he kept insisting until we gave up and said we'll play the Alien Assault room. We chose to settle na lang.
4. When our group went back to the CC branch, there was no one at the reception area. As in wala. We waited for a few minutes until the supervisor came back and greeted us. He told us to wait for a few moments as they reset the room. Everything was fine from the general briefing to putting our things into the locker area to entering the room to getting us onboard of the room's lore.
5. We had no problems with the room and puzzles themselves, until we got to the point where we had to ask for clues/help because we got stuck. However, the gamekeeper was very late to come to our aid. We kept pressing the button and waving to the CCTV cameras (as per the instructions when asking for clues) BUT NO ONE CAME FOR 10 MINUTES. We could've solved that room faster if we didn't waste 10 minutes waiting for the gamekeeper to help us.
6. Another thing is that the staff kept entering the room even if we didn't ask for their help. They would go in and ask "Have you guys finished yet?". Do they really have to do that? Can't they just check the feed from the CCTV cameras? This part irritated me personally because it ruined the immersion of the game.
7. Another thing is that when one of the staff (not the gamekeeper that talked to us first) entered the room, he gave us a clue when we didn't ask for it. Sure, we were lost with that puzzle but we still had enough time to solve it. Not only did it ruin our immersion, but it also spoiled the satisfaction of solving the puzzle on our own.
8. Activation of some of the mechanisms were late. When we solved the puzzle for the doors, we couldn't open them immediately. There was also a few seconds of delay with the last mechanism (the box for the alien helmet). We're not entirely sure how the mechanisms of the rooms work but we have a hunch that most (if not all) of them are controlled by the gamekeeper. If that's the case, it's better to set those things on automatic to minimize the delay -- given that the gamekeepers may not be monitoring the game room at all times (see item 5).
9. We solved the puzzle with a few minutes to spare. We also got the shirts as promised by the supervisor (note that he promised this because he kept insisting that we play the room that we DID NOT want). The next problem lies in getting the excess payment we originally made for Terror In The Theater. We still had to get the Php250 from them (it's not that big pero that's still Php250. Pang-Grab din 'yan). My friend asked the BGC staff about this multiple times before going to the Century City branch and the BGC staff that we can get the excess payment at the CC branch.
However, the supervisor that the BGC MM staff did not tell him he was supposed to give us the excess payment. We were fine with that and even said we'll talk to the BGC branch staff na lang. I don't know what he did after (if he spoke with BGC staff ba o ano) but I saw him getting the money from their register. He then handed it to us but said something along the lines of, "Ang lakas n'yo sa'kin; may shirts na kayo, may rebate pa kayo."
My friends and I didn't bother responding to that statement since we wanted to leave na (it was already 6pm), but that's honestly irritating to hear. First of all, the supervisor was the one who promised us the shirts if we played the room that he insisted us to play. Second, the thing with the refund (or rebate daw) was not even our fault since it was not us who failed to communicate it to them. We were even okay with leaving and bugging the BGC staff for it.
We understand that he might be tired and wanted to get it over with (we share the same sentiments here) but we really did not like the tone he used with his last statement. We were also generally okay with the experience despite the mishaps but that thing the supervisor said ruined it for us.
We were merely asking for the things that were promised to us, but it felt like it's our fault pa when in the first place it wasn't us who failed to relay the right info. Many of these issues could've been prevented if the staff members of both the BGC and Century City Mall branches had a clear line of communication between each other.

We did the mall experience, I don’t believe their translation to English is correct when we explain some of these to the GM they just argued the answer and statement in their clues were correct, they expected you to have a leap of faith to guess answers, have outside knowledge of the mall and nothing flowed or made sense, we spent 1/2 hr looking for the second half of a clue that was on your device you were given even though we were told to search every floor of the mall. Overall if I could give a negative review I would. Very disappointing don’t waste your money

This was our 6th room ever and it was the worse. We played Debby's Doll and it was not a good experience. For one of the first puzzles we had to ask for help because we tried to open something to get an item and it was only possible to open it forcing it. For other special locker the explanation of how it worked was wrong. We lost plenty of time with those silly things, very frustrating.

The room was great. The staff were lovely. We discovered on the game master entering at the end of the game however that she had failed to trigger a clue which must be triggered manually by her, on the finding of a certain object by us. She initially told us that we hadn’t found it in time, but when I pointed out that we’d been playing with the object for over 2 minutes, admitted she was managing more than one game and had not noticed in time. I was more than a little disappointed as it transpired that the clue we had found, accompanied with the clue the game master should’ve triggered, would have allowed us to gain access to the key to leave the room and it was perfectly possible to complete this in under 2 minutes.
The long and the short of it is we may well have escaped had the game master not been managing two games instead of one! 2 minutes is a very long time in this sort of game! Whilst I appreciated the game master’s honesty, an apology was all that was offered. Holding the ‘I almost escaped’ sign immediately thereafter did feel a tad ironic.
(Apologies for speaking so cryptically but I don’t want to give anything away).

Hi Chris,
We thank you for raising this matter. Our staff should not have taken that long to attend to you and the lapse is definitely inexcusable as the experience was not at par with what we aim for our customers. We apologize for that.
For us to fully investigate the specifics and address the issue concerning the staff, may we ask that you send us a quick email with more details such as the branch you went to and the Mystery you played as well as the date? You may email us at info@mysterymanila.com. We really hope to hear from you.

We visited this place as part of our teambuilding activity. Registration took several minutes. Two lockers were provided for the 6 of us. The rooms were cramped and stuffy and not well-ventilated. I thought I was going to faint. The experience was not what I expected. Irritating sound effects were blaring on, add that to the cramped and stuffy room, and there goes all the hype for solving the mystery. Our team almost finished the challenge but we had a mechanical problem in operating the stuff inside the room.

Visited Mystery Manila today as I've not tried an Escape Room. This was in Century Mall in Makati, and has six games to choose from. The types of games are pretty varied, including horror and Sci Fi story lines... we chose the Pym Particle game.
Basic story here is a scientist has invented a particle that enables you to shrink or grow, but a rival scientist has stolen it and wants to weaponise it. Your job is to recover the particle and escape within 60 minutes.
The game is actually fairly straightforward but the puzzles in it are also quite clever. The first few are relatively simple, giving a false sense of hope, perhaps, and the last two are brutal... Some groups have finished this game within 20 minutes - we took the hour and didn't finish. However it was a good experience and I'm none the worse off for it.
The staff at the venue are friendly and helpful, the rules are explained clearly and enforced fairly.
If you've got some time to kill, I'd recommend it. Of course there could be improvements made to the game play and the environment, but it is fun, well thought out and engaging. Costs are not too steep, but that of course depends on your budget. Allow 450 peso per person and you'll be about right.
Well worth a visit.

Tried this with my work teammates and it was a blast. Finding clues and solving puzzles together, or even just being absolutely clueless together is so much fun. Make sure to book in advance to get your desired date and time :)
