‪Nature’s Healing Home is one of those little-known, diamond in the rough kind of places. But a diamond nonetheless. When I booked my time here I was a little unsure about the place. The website has adequate but basic information, and beyond that I couldn’t really get a sense whether or not it would be somewhere I would want to be stuck if I wasn’t into it… especially after having read some of the other reviews. The property is not easily accessible for travelers, nor is it the kind of place where you’ll be coming and going. But luckily, once I realized the uniqueness of where I was, there was really no desire to go anywhere else. More importantly, after spending a lot of time talking to the owner Prescilla, and understanding how hard she’s been working over the last couple of years to get the place fully up and running, I have a better understanding of why past travelers may not have had the experience I did.

The most important thing to know is, you’re going to be fed really well here. If you’re looking for a retreat that includes an extremely clean diet, this is it. Prescilla grows 90% of the food she serves, and the variety is pretty staggering. I’m vegetarian (and vegan with a little flexibility, particularly while I travel) and after being in some places where ANY vegetarian food was difficult to find (forget vegan!) this place was heaven. Everything is fresh, organic, creative and delicious and her dedication to healthy yet tasty food is apparent. I do believe she also serves chicken and fish for the non-veg people, but I didn’t encounter that while I was there.

Retreats are her specialty. I booked 5 nights and she created a custom program for me. Being a yoga/meditation instructor and energy worker myself, I always enjoy going new places and trying out new teachers and classes, and Prescilla teaches some unique modalities. She also created a lot of variation in the schedule which kept it engaging. As part of the program she gave me two facials using organic fruits and clay from the farm, foot reflexology, hot stone massage as well as her unique version of energy healing. We also had a field trip one day, hiking to nearby Tangadan Falls, which was both challenging and fun, especially swimming in the pool below the falls. The retreat was a perfect balance of practices, healing services and pure relaxation/down time.

The accommodations can vary. I stayed in the rather rustic Nipa hut, which if you’re squeamish about bugs and not having luxurious toilet facilities, is not the right lodging for you, in which case the bungalow is available which is basically like a hotel room. But the huts have their own appeal. Honestly, aside from some ants, the occasional spider or bee passing through, there was very little bug issue. And the real appeal of the hut is the open air, indoor/outdoor feel where you overlook the lush garden greenery of the farm and the ocean off in the distance, not to mention the sunset! The bed is comfortable, and if the composting toilet really freaks you out, there is a communal flush toilet just steps away in the building next door. Also, be aware that Prescilla has four dogs who are always nearby. Personally, I loved it, but not everyone might feel that way.

So while NHH is not easy to get to, that’s also part of the appeal. Located on Luzon, in the rural area of San Fernando, it’s going to be a journey to get to the center, and even though the town of San Fernando can be heard in the distance, the beauty of being removed from the city and out in nature is well worth the effort. The food, the sounds of nature, the visual beauty of all that grows there, not to mention the pure intention behind the place… it’s all incredibly healing. While people do drop in for yoga classes and some of her world-class cooking, retreats are really the specialty here, so if you’re looking for something unique and highly nourishing, I cannot recommend NHH enough.‬

‪Having stayed twice at Natures Healing Home now I can full heartedly say that it's one of the best places to stay on the whole island of Luzon if you're interested in a real nature experience in a quiet and relaxed environment on an organic farm overlooking the valley and the ocean far above the hustle and bustle of San Fernando La Union. At the almost self sufficient farm you can spoil your tastebuds with amazing home cooked organic food and all sorts of health products. You will sleep in cosy bamboo bungalows with stunning sunset views every evening. Next to that healing treatments of many kinds and various yoga sessions are offered throughout the season. Overall a very peaceful and charming place on heavens earth where you can recharge and connect to mother earth's nature and being aligned with your true devine self.‬

‪This place will extract as much as possible from customers in the form of cancellation penalties. They will try zero reimbursement first even though cancellation was requested on time per most hotel/motel procedures. Then give indications they will reimburse some if you know how to use the internet. Finally, they will return less than a third of what they've charge you. Appears to be cash-starved entity. Customers beware‬

‪My partner and I tried this place as it struck as an ideal place to rest for nature loving people.

What we think was good:

- It’s easy to find and the drive isn’t hard just need to be extra careful on the road as its an uphill drive and there are quite a few blind areas.

- the location is fabulous. Its at the top. Full of plants and trees. Its overlooking La Union (its not the best view in daylight as its only mixed trees and house roofs and water a little further away. The night view was better).

- when we checked in, there’s only us and then another lady.

- it was very quiet. definitely a place for resting. an escape from the busy buzz.

- nelly and his young boy was very nice and accomodating.

- the hut was what we expected for the price we had to pay. it was nice though.

what we think would need improvement:

- we got there and we were welcomed by (i think her name is) nelly. she has taken us in our hut and then left. We thought she’d come back to orient us.

- the place is full of greens however, the garden is not well maintained.

- there are quite a few trash around which looked like it has already been scavenged (i.e. outside the showers, by our hut).

- it didn’t feel safe especially at night. the lay out looked like an intruder would be able to get in easily. There was no kind of security whatsoever.

‪Nature's Healing Home is located in San Fernando City, from the highway either you ride a tricycle or jeep. If you will drive, it is steep so be sure you have the driving skills and your car is conditioned.

You can either rent an airconditioned room or nipa hut (but your comfort room is outside so be brave peeing at night)... the place is serene which is meant for relaxation and meditation. they offer organic food, yoga class for P150 and energy healing for P800. The owners of the place Ms. Prescilla and Sir Richard are very warm and accomodating‬

‪I've been wanting to feature the surfing area of La Union for a long time but every time I'd plan our trip something comes up and we'd be in a different province.

Last week I tried to book at popular hotels but to no avail because it's peak season. As I checked booking.com, Nature's Healing Home kept on popping and so I gave in and booked for an overnight there not even knowing what lies ahead.

From Subic Park Hotel it took us four hours to reach San Fernando. We got lost along the way as the GPS failed to locate Nature's Healing Home because it was cloudy that day. Then we just found ourselves in San Juan La Union where we actually wanted to go the next day. We were already tired and just wanted to sleep so we looked for bed and breakfast inns around the area but we weren't comfortable with the noise and just thought of going back to Manila until Precy sent message worriedly asking where we were.

John and I decided to give Nature's Healing Home a second try and drove all the way back to San Fernando. There's a major road construction and the scarce amount of streets lights are of no help so it took us amost 9pm to reach Nature's Healing Home.

All the hassles my family went through has all been worth the effort because we like the place a lot! The experience of living on the mountain with just the basics - connecting with nature, eating organic food, picking of mangoes and other fruits and vegetables, dhan yoga session, playing and conversing with people. Oh, I almost forgot, playing throw and catch with Neo and the other dogs.

Am I recommending Nature's Healing Home? Definitely yes! Just a few tips. First, drive while there's still daylight. GPS will come in handy just use Bacsil Monument as your point. When you reach the monument, turn left, then left again right after the house on the left. Bringing of food is allowed but if you want to live the NHH way, inform them ahead. We had breakfast at P100 per head, consisting of coffee for John and I, hot chocolate for the kids, organic papaya, cassava pancake and boiled saba (banana).‬
