Vielen Dank.

The ceremony was lovely and explained in perfect English. Then we were allowed to make our own tea and given sweets to eat with it.

I had a really great time with Atsuko san during the tea ceremony. It was a great time for understanding, learning and respect. The tea house is absolutely amazing with a nice view on the traditional Japanese garden. The energy is the house is very good and zen. More than a tea ceremony, it was a good encounter with Atsuko san, like I appreciate having during my travels.

I am writing this review, as a resident living in Japan, in hopes in the near future, the time would come when pharma research and development having prevailed over covid19, thus return of global tourism back in Kyoto.
Have visited Camellia Garden with my elementary school aged Daughter.
Currently Camellia provides a fully private and social distancing measure implemented Tea Ceremony experience(as of end Dec 2021).
The Garden Tea house, which is a 100 years old traditional architecture, with a beutiful and cozy Japanese garden, is located nearby the Golden Temple of Kyoto (approx. ten minutes distance by Bus. or if you are unsure of direction, simply catch a taxi from the Temple).
With a dedicated UraSenke Style Tea Ceremony Staff, of whom was very kind to my daughter, with a family like omotenashi, myself and my daughter did very much enjoyed this memorable tea experiece. Thankyou Camellia (Mizufune Sensei) for your hospitality during our visit.
FYI, Camellia also partners with a Kimono rental service(at a separate location and separate fee). Meaning, if you are interested in Japanese traditional tea ceremony, while whearing a Kimono, and like to visit a traditonal Japanese architectural Tea house with a cozy garden, Camellia Garden might be a good candidate (all in one package).
As a trip plan, for instance, visit the Golden Temple or other nearby Temples in the morning, and later in the day, relax and enjoy your moment with your kids, family, or friends (or by youself is OK too) by visiting Camellia Garden.
ref. photo attached, my daughter learning how to make authentic Japanese tea.

We had a wonderful and unforgettable moment @Camellia Garden, Kyoto in Decemmber 2019. We had a very high expectation of this tour and what we lived and experienced @that venue entirely satisfied our curiosity. Our hostess, Keiko was very professional and managed to make us familiar with the rituals related to the tea ceremony and to let us know that tea ceremony was also another way of life. We will always remember that tea ceremony helps everyone to find peace and serenity among the bustling life outside. The view on the Japanese style garden was very important too since while the tea ceremony was happening, that garden cultivated an atmosphere full of harmony and beauty. The fact that we were allowed to take pictures of and to record the ceremony meant so much to us since we were coming from a very far island and might not have another opportunity to experience this tour. This was a moment to be remembered eternally and to be cherished forever. Our most sincere thanks to all the team @Camellia Garden Kyoto. Best wishes to you all.

Greetings from Kyoto.
We are thrilled to have welcomed you to Camellia Garden, and Keiko in particular sends her best wishes.
Your heartwarming words mean a great deal, and we would like to thank you for taking the time to write about your experience in the teahouse.
Naturally we hope that you have an opportunity to visit us again some day in the future, but it is quite wonderful to know that for now you have returned home with some unforgettable memories.
Until we meet again, all the best!

In visiting Kyoto, one is already in for very different experience than that of the bustling metropolises of Tokyo or even Osaka. Kyoto prides itself in being the cultural, traditional, and intellectual centre of Japan, and for good reason.
Even still, among the various temples, strolls through narrow streets, and charming street car rides, nothing made us feel closer to the heart of Japanese hospitality than our time with the Camellia team. We, embarrassingly, arrived at the wrong destination, some 30 minutes away by taxi from the other (make sure to triple check where you reserved your visit!!). Even so, the staff at the other destination diligently made arrangements with the other, and waited for us to arrive at the correct location. As if this alone hadn't been enough, Maya, our gracious host, made no mention of it past our repeated apologies and encouraged us to relax and enjoy our time.
Of important note is the location. An old traditional-styled house tucked away in sleepy north Kyoto, we felt as if we were visiting an old friend and being treated to some first-rate hospitality (unsurprisingly, the house actually belongs to a family that lives not too far away). Maya began by asking a bit about us and our interest, before providing (in immaculate English) a concise yet informative history of the tea ceremony, as well as instruction on how we, as guests, might best enjoy it..
She then offered us each a piece of wagashi, a traditional Japanese sweet that Kyoto is itself famous for. As everything about the tea ceremony is done one step at a time, Maya explained, we have sweets first before actual delving into the ceremony itself. The sweets were delicious and seasonal. Maya encouraged us to take as much photo and video as we wanted.
Finally we moved on to the ceremony in the the main tea room. Maya explained the procedure and encouraged us to follow with the steps of the recipient, but she explained that it was by no means necessary to adhere to them 100% and that, as guests, it was more important that we enjoyed watching. I don't want to write too much about it here, but rather encourage everybody reading this to experience it for yourselves. It was by far my favourite experience while visiting the old capital, and cannot wait to come back just to do it over again.
Thank you again Maya and team for being so accommodating to our lateness. Please continue to provide the excellent service you gave us and keeping the old traditions of Japan alive.

Dear Sebastian,
The warmest of greetings from Kyoto.
We would first like to thank you for taking the time to write about your experiences at Camellia Garden, it is very much appreciated. Reviews not only help us take a considered look at our experiences, but also offer helpful insights for guests who are planning on visiting us.
Your feedback is extremely heartwarming, and I have made sure to pass on your kind words to Maya and the rest of the Camellia team.
For those reading, we should mention that we have two teahouses in Kyoto. They sit on opposite sides of the city, and although we do our best to make sure guests arrive at the correct destination, mishaps happen. Should you arrive at the wrong teahouse, we will do our best to push your session back or reschedule. The distance between the teahouses is approximately 30 minutes by taxi and 50 minutes by bus (which can be quite slow during the busier seasons).
It is truly wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed yourselves, and to know how much you felt at home. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you again in the near future.
Until then, the very best of wishes from Maya and the rest of the Camellia team.

Is it necessary to book reservation? unfortunately, having very compressed times in the day, we don't know if we can until the day itself...

Hi Francesca G
Thank you for your message. For a private tea ceremony at Camellia GARDEN, a reservation is a must since we need to order sweets specially.
If you are not sure about the time, we recommend a group tea ceremony at Camellia FLOWER in Ninenzaka, near Kiyomizu temple. For a group tea ceremony, we can accommodate as long as we have rooms available. Please check our website for the latest availability and locations.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Best regards,
Atsuko

I would like to make a tea ceremony. We are 3 adults and a 7 years old boy. How much does it costs? And how long is it?
Thanks, Veronica

Dear Veronica,
Thank you for your inquiry. It costs 6000 yen per person and takes about 60 minutes, includes an explanation, a traditional Japanese sweet, a tea ceremony demonstration and a hands-on experience to make a bowl of matcha by yourselves.
Please make a reservation via our website.
We look forward to seeing you!

Anyone know how do I get to the tea garden from Ryoanji ?
Is there any tickets or entrance fee to the tea garden ?

It isnt a public garden, its a private home where you make a booking to experience a traditional tea ceremony. the tea ceremony is performed by a traditional japanese garden belonging to the home. i think bookings need to be made ahead of time.
