A visit to Nagasaki would not be complete without a visit to the Peace Park. The Nagasaki Peace Memorial Park was once the Urakami Prison. Rusted steel beams and some concrete foundations are all that remains of it.
Like September 11, 2001, at 8:46 AM is etched in the minds of Americans, likewise August 9, 1945, at 11:02 AM is forever etched in the minds of the Japanese living in Nagasaki, Japan. This was the day when an atomic bomb was detonated over what was once a Urakami Prison and is now the location of the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Park. At the entrance to the park, there is a 32.8-foot-tall bronze statue of a seated man. Our guide explained the position of the statue’s hands. His right-hand finger points to the sky while the left is outstretched. The right symbolizes the threat of nuclear weapons while the left is symbolic of world peace.
The seated man statue is framed by two water fountains. Viewing it from the seated man, the fountains look like angel wings. It symbolizes the flow of tears of the victims. The message on the sign in front of the fountains was written by a 9-year-old girl named Sachiko Yamaguchi. Translated it reads: "I was thirsty beyond endurance. There was something oily on the surface of the water, but I wanted water so badly that I drank it just as it was." Near the stairs leading to the park are a few carved-out walls. These were used to hide and escape after the atomic bombing.
Many statues and monuments are found throughout the park, some of which were donated by other cities and countries. One notable sculpture is that of a woman holding a sleeping child. Our guide explained the meaning of this sculpture. The child represents Japan on the day of the bombing and the woman represents the support the world provided to rebuild. Another one contains the bell of Nagasaki This memorial was dedicated to the mobilized students and forced laborers We were told that 70% of the victims were children, women, and senior citizens.
The park was established as a place for world peace and intended for prayers and remembrance It is a “must see” when visiting Nagasaki.

Nagasaki Peace Park records the moment when the US military dropped the atomic bomb in the Second World War, according to the history was originally dropped Hiroshima, because of the weather and other calculation problems dropped Nagasaki, later there was also dropped Hiroshima, because of the atomic bomb landing, Japan also declared surrender, symbolizing the end of the war, everything returned to peace; this park is revealing the meaning of peace, the connected war museum made me see the moment of the war on the ground and the instantaneous smoke of the people, the helplessness and damage of a lot; also made me therefore go to Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Museum, and then go to Germany to understand the museum and concentration camp during the war, how the authorities step by step to the war, how the people face.

I feel the park as a symbol of peace. But even in September it was very hot.
I will always remember you. Don't forget.

This is a park of reflection, featuring the famous peace memorial as well as many monuments, some donated by other countries. The park is partially built on the site of a prison, which was totally destroyed by the atomic bomb. The park also features a water fountain. It is said that many people who were not immediately killed by the explosion became extremely thirsty as they were mortally dehydrated, so the fountain was built for them.
Note:
1) This is not the site of the Atomic Bomb Museum or Hypocenter, though they are both nearby.
2) There are very few stores and restaurants in this area.

The statue for peace praying for the souls of Nagasaki atomic bomb victims is a symbol of peace, with the right hand pointing high to the heavens and the left hand stretching out the threat of the atomic bomb to the side representing world peace.

Peace Park is located on a small hill in Matsumoto, Nagasaki. At 11:2 on August 9, 1945, an atomic bomb fell here. Peace Park, completed in 1951, was built to pray for the rest of the victims’ souls and for the lasting peace of the world.
The 18.5-acre park features a statue of peace, a fountain of peace, and central landmarks for atomic bomb dropping. The Peace Prayer Statue is 9.7 meters tall. The right hand of the sky represents the threat of the atomic bomb, while the left hand stands for peace. Every year, a peace memorial ceremony is held as before. Pray about the "Fountain of Peace" with a diameter of 18 meters in front. The beautiful water column erupting from the fountain symbolizes the wings of pigeons and goats, dedicated to the victims who are exposed to the hot winds, filled with the bitter lack of water. The atomic bomb exploded 500 meters above the central landmark. A black backstone stands at the location shown by the landmark pillar in the center of the fall, alongside the remains of the Old Pu Cathedral. Burned in the ashes of the explosion of the atomic bomb, the area is now a recreation square filled with natural greenery, which also conveys the preciousness of peace.

It was the weekend of late July, but we were already preparing for the ceremony on August 9. There were surprisingly few tourists, perhaps because of the extreme heat. We have a tram. It used to be a Matsuyamacho tram stop, but the name has changed to Heiwa Park and it may be easier to understand.

After the Bon festival in August, when I traveled to Saga and Nagasaki for my summer vacation, I visited this and the Atomic Bomb Museum, which I had long wished for. It was a sunny, very hot summer day, and in the middle of the sun in the park, an old man with a black tan was selling chirin chirin ice cream (though he had a training tag), and my wife and I had it. The classic milky ice cream was delicious.
The park is lined with statues of memorials given by various countries, both east and west, and is visited by a large number of foreigners. It was a good day of learning, wishing for peace and renewing our desire to tell the world about this event.

Walking from the Peace Museum over the bridge past the Flame of Peace come in to The Peace Park which was founded with the desire for world peace. After the atomic bomb exploded, it was said that grass and trees would not grow on this spot for 75 years. However, this park is currently full of trees, flowers and art works donated by countries all over the world in support of the city’s prayer for peace. Amongst the memorials relating to 50th anniversary of the bombing, the Hypo-centre to remember at the exact spot over which the H-Bomb detonated 500 feet above , the Peace fountain commemorating an offering to all those who lost their strength before they could drink a single drop with a poem is carved into a memorial plate in front of the fountain, written by a child who suffered from thirst in the immediate aftermath of the bombing, only one part of the front of Ukami Catholic Cathedral, the grandest church in east Asia at the time survived and a replica is placed near the Peace Statue, a symbol of Nagasaki as a city of peace, it was created by sculptor Seibo Kitamura, a Nagasaki native. The raised right hand pointing to the sky depicts the threat of the atomic bomb, and the left hand stretching horizontally symbolises eternal world peace, while the slightly closed eyes express a prayer asking that the souls of the victims may find rest. The outstretched left hand symbolises tranquillity and world peace. The sturdy physique embodies Divine omnipotence and love, the gentle repose of closed eyes a prayer for the souls of all war victims. The folded right leg shows quiet meditation and the left leg is ready for action to assist humanity. A humbling visit and a reminder of folly of war and the suffering that is left.

We will be in Nagasaki port on Feb 25. I plan to visit ground zero, peace park, and the museum. Is it a short taxi ride? Please advise. Thanks.
كُتب بتاريخ 26 يناير 2019
I take it you will arrive at the terminal designated for cruise ships. If this is the case it is not a very long taxi drive. The distance to the A-bomb area is roughly 5 km. Depending on traffic it will take you about 20 minutes to get there. Enjoy your trip.

Are tickets required to attend the Memorial Day at Nagasaki Peace Park 9/8/18?
كُتب بتاريخ 8 فبراير 2018
Seats are reserved for hibakusha and their families by invitation. You can join the event, but I don't think you have a seat.
كُتب بتاريخ 15 مارس 2018
you have a outdoor onsen, so do we wear swimsuit or go naked just like those indoor onsen ?
كُتب بتاريخ 9 فبراير 2015
It depends. Ask beforehand. BTW, there is no onsen at Nagasaki Peace Park.
كُتب بتاريخ 9 فبراير 2015
Is it easy to get to from the cruise terminal? If so, how?
كُتب بتاريخ 18 يناير 2015
We were on a cruise ship and used the trams for our transport. We are both in our 70"s and did not find the trams a problem. Inside the Cruise Terminal information staff will give you maps and tell you where to get the tram. We started by visiting the Peace Park and then walked down to the Atomic Bomb Museum (through the Hypocentre Park).
We then visited the one legged Tori Gate and then Sofukuji Temple. All this was done on the tram and short walks. The tram routes follow a colour code like MTR routes - easy.
