Two major features with Uncharted worth highlighting. Easy, prompt and empathic communication. Secondly but even more important, professional and lovely guides. I recommend highly Marvin. The 3days Banaue trip is breathtaking. Friendly Marvin added all of his knowledge, spirit and culture to make this trip much more than just another great experience.

My sister and I have just returned from travel to the Philippines and Taiwan and we launched our trip with this memorable journey into a beautiful rural, mountainous region north of Manila. What a gift it was to have the experience, wisdom and knowledge of our guide, Jody, and to appreciate the generous hospitality of local proprietors and residents as we traveled through, and stayed in their communities. The hiking trails and paths were in excellent condition, with steep trail ascents and descents generally consisting of stairs that offered stable footing, even following rainfall. The history of the area and the care invested in the land by inhabitants through the years is evident in the beauty of the landscapes and the manually-tended farmland. I have deep gratitude for the invitation extended to us and others by local residents, knowledgeable guides, and the travel companies that organize trips, to visit this area.

Unchartered Philippines – Northern Palawan Snorkelling Expedition
What an amazing holiday and all thanks to Leo from Unchartered Philippines and his superb Guides for organising this unforgettable holiday for us.
We were attending a wedding in the Philippines and decided it would be foolish not to enjoy and explore the area.
We decided to book this as a private tour which we would highly recommend.
The 4 to 5 day Northern Palawan Snorkelling Expedition was simply amazing made all the more special by our superb Guide Jhonas Navarro. The whole trip will be an experience that we will never forget.
Moving onto a different Island and different snorkelling sites each day was amazing. We were fully supported by the crew for the whole trip and the food provided by Jhonas and his 2 crew was out of this world. We stopped overnight on some Islands where we were the only tourists. Dined out on beautiful beaches eating the finest of food watching the sun come down. Jhonas swam with us each day and we learned so much from him. He is an excellent free diver and also a brilliant photographer and this has resulted in us having a greater knowledge of how to take good underwater pictures. We simply didn’t want this section of our holiday to come to an end. So much so that we would love to do it all over again. So our thanks to Jhonas and his crew for making this such a memorable holiday.
Over and above the Northern Palawan Snorkelling Expedition we added on the Ifugao Village Trek with Unchartered Philippines. Because there were so many pictures and memories to share we have listed them as 2 separate reviews. At the end of the holiday we visited El Nido which was lovely although we have to say Coron for snorkelling was so much better.
We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Unchartered Philippines as a tour operator. It certainly is 10 out of 10 from us. Thank you Leo for your patience and organisation.

Unchartered Philippines – Ifugao Village Trek
What an amazing holiday and all thanks to Leo from Unchartered Philippines and his superb Guides for organising this un-forgettable able holiday for us.
We have been on numerous trekking holidays before ie Nepal, Borneo, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and sadly the Philippines was not on our radar to visit, however we were invited to a wedding in the area and decided it would be foolish not to explore the Philippines and we are so glad that we did so. This simply was one of our best holidays and the question has to be asked why is the Philippines often overlooked? We booked the Ifugao Village Trek and added onto that the Northern Palawan Snorkelling Expedition. There were so many highlights and photographs to share I have split it into 2 separate reviews.
Because we had to work around the wedding we opted for a private tour and private transfer rather than the overnight bus. This we would highly recommend it is well worth paying a little extra to get a air conditioned mini bus transfer and this turned into be an exciting start to the holiday. We travelled during daylight hours rather than overnight so were able to enjoy the great scenery.
Our Guide for the Trek was Jody Kimmayong and he certainly was a character.
We extended the trek so that we would have time to soak up and enjoy the culture and scenery which we certainly would recommend. Jody was a superb Guide and being local and well known in the area enabled us to have a greater interaction with villagers and he introduced us to some colourful characters along the way. We certainly wouldn’t have been able to do this without him. This very much added to our enjoyment of a truly unforgettable trip. He was a very patient and caring guide. Even though there was just the three of us on this whole trip we never ran out of conversation. We very much received an education on the history, culture and traditions of each village we passed through plus the difficulties in maintaining rice terraces and the different stages of growing rice. It was extremely interesting. So our thanks to Jody.
We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Unchartered Philippines as a tour operator. Leo organised a 3 week holiday for us to perfection and this was very much tailor made to our requirements and abilities. So our thanks to Leo also.

Absolutely stunning views and amazing hiking. Somethings to note though:
-the way through the rice fields is for experienced hikers only
-Balance and a rational comfort around heights (about 3-6m) is important
-bring sleeping aids to be rested after the overnight bus
-ask your guide to cut you a walking stick
-bring candy to give to the children, they are so sweet

Our tour guide Jody told us a lot about our surroundings and helped us when we needed it. I hope to do this trip once again even though the stairs were exhausting. The view, the people and their Stories are worth it.

he trip was very well organised and went so smoothly. Jhon and Ana were delightful company and such good drivers. Planet Dive were similarly organised and such a relaxing and great place to stay. I had a wonderful time in the water with Allen, who was so good at finding pointing out interesting things!

I booked a one-day scuba dive with Uncharted Philippines at Anilao. Overall, it was a very good experience. The team was very communicative, providing detailed and useful information, travel and logistics was well coordinated and hassle free, and the team at the Anilao dive site were great. They adjusted my dive itinerary based on my personal preferences (adding a shipwreck dive), shared interesting local knowledge, and were very professional from start to finish. I would definitely book through Uncharted Philippines next time I am in country!

Uncharted Philippines is such as amazing company. They have exceeded my expectations with every interaction. Leo was very responsive from my initial interaction with him, and through the whole process. He checked with me periodically during the trip to make sure our expectations were being met, and to communicate any updates for our trip. He made a great itinerary for my wife and me (private tour), communicated all the expectations, documentation, and other needs very clearly. We had a very busy and full 12-days, and the Uncharted team never skipped a beat.
As with any great company, the individual team members each attribute a unique piece to merit success. Our guides were those individual pieces, and they were all unique and amazing people. In 12 days, we explored Manila, traversed rice terraces in Banaue, Batad, and Sagada, explored the waterfalls of Laguna, snorkeled and did an intro. dive in Anilao, and spent a wonderful week in Palawan. In each region, our guides were local to the area, so not only did we have a great experience with them, we also gained knowledge from they insights they shared.
Our manila guides, Dondon, EJ, and Jason were great company. Jason safely and efficiently tackled the Manila traffic, while joking and conversating with us the whole way. He knew shortcuts to save us time and never seemed to get tired/sleepy! EJ flexed his knowledge of Intramuros Manila, and helped us with getting various things settled upon arrival (currency exchange, necessities shopping, etc.). We explored areas of my childhood that my wife has only seen in pictures, and it was great to re-visit these areas. Dondon braved the 4 waterfalls we visited, and always made sure we were safe on the trail. He took great pictures for us and knew a great local eatery to sample some unique Filipino dishes. Too bad I didn't get to sample his cooking (I hear he's a great chef).
Jonathan, or rather, Jhon was a great guide through the Cordillera region. He was so pleasant, friendly,and funny. He grew up and lives in the region, and it was great to share in his pride of his home province. He shared a great deal of knowledge of both the region and the local trails through the rice terraces. Hiking the rice terraces was a great challenge (especially in the rain), but he ensured our safety and had a good gauge of our pace. On our trek to Batad, we finished early enough to eat our lunch at Cavinti Falls, before proceeding to our lodging in Batad. At the lodge, we had such a great time hanging out with Jhon and the various guides who all congregated there for the night.
In Palawan, Jonel was our guide. Jonel is so friendly and respectful, and was always thoughtful of our safety. We had a fairly active adventure in Palawan, where we snorkeled, swam, kayaked, and trekked through the jungle. Jonel never skipped a beat. He was not only by our side the whole time, but he cooked several lunches for us as we island hopped throughout the week. Who would have thought, he's an athlete, guide, and a chef!
Through our whole trip, Ana checked in with our guides to make sure everything was going well and sending any updates as they arose. And of course, Leo not only put the whole thing together, but was in communication with us, even after we had already left the Philippines. All in all, not only were the experiences he put together amazing, but his whole team is amazing. We left the Philippines, knowing that we made new life-long friends and can't wait to contact Uncharted Philippines for our future adventures. They really lived up to their mission of adventure tourism, as I have never had so much fun from being exhausted from and during my trip. If you're looking for a great adventure to an amazing and foreign place, look non further than Uncharted Philippines. They are a professional company, and their whole team is experienced, friendly, genuine, and great to work with.

This hike is a total must. It gives you unique insight into a specific aspect of Filipino culture -- rice farming and the cultural traditions of Ifugao locals. Leo was fantastic in communicating with me about arranging this tour. And he set me up with Jody, an excellent guide who has been giving these tours for years. Jody has his photos plastered up in a village Inn in Combulo; clearly a reflection of the connection he makes with his guests.
Throughout the trek, Jody was great about offering alternatives depending on your hiking skill level and energy. I opted for the longer routes but he was familiar enough with the trails to do shorter routes if you desired. The trail at some points can be very slippery, narrow, steep -- or all of the above! At certain points, the hike actually feels more like outdoor rock climbing, which I loved but is important to know as you plan for this tour.
We were making good time so once we arrived in Batad, I had the choice to either do Tappiya Falls that afternoon or wait go the following morning. I was feeling energized so I did it that afternoon. PRO TIP: The inn you stay overnight at Batad is about an hour away from Tappiya Falls. The normal itinerary is to do Tappiya Falls on the morning of the 2nd day. But if you have the energy to do Tappiya Falls on day 1 before going to the inn, it will save you about 2 hours of trekking.
All in all, I really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it for folks with some hiking skill experience and a sense of adventure. Be warned, however, that the accommodations are very very very basic. The villages in Ifugao experience regular power outages. Expect cold showers and limited food options. With a positive outlook, all of these factors are part of what made the experience so memorable. I hope you'll consider it!

Hi Hata, thanks for contacting us. For a one day tour I recommend doing our Taal Day Tour or our Pinatubo Volcano tour. Both trips take you to a volcano. The Taal trip is a combination of nature, culture and history while the Pinatubo trip takes you to a very unique landscape (a desert of volcanic ash). You can find details of these trips on our website --- just look under "Adventure" and "Day Tour" .
