Seeing this house is a must especially if your in the area, however I wish there was more to see. Even so it’s still awesome and so cool to know that this is right in our hometown and so open to the public to take them on a journey into the past.

We stopped by en route elsewhere and so glad we did ! For $5 we were given a tour by the most knowledgeable guide who was so passionate about his subject that we were completely drawn into the world of Hubbard House and the family. It is small for a museum, only the house and its contents but so important you should not miss the opportunity to visit.

From the Ashtabula area and I finally visited this at nearly 70 years old. What a delight. Our volunteer guide was a delight. Even our small grandchildren were fascinated! A real gem!

I went to this place some time ago but never thought about doing a review until now.
I love learning about the local history and this place was a real find.
I have been by it dozens of times and never had any idea as to the history of it.
The guides were very knowledgeable and made the whole experience fun.

This is a very good historic site and the guide was most interesting! Really went into the history and details of how the home played a significant role in the Underground Railroad. This family was very prominent and influential in their community. Apparently this was the northern most station on the Underground Railroad before they crossed Lake Erie and go into Canada. The period antiques and family pieces and history around this really makes this story comes alive. This is worth the time to see this!

This house, which is now connected to the library, used to be the main meeting place for the abolitionists in Ashtabula. They met secretly here in the front room. There was nothing written down by the abolitionists, we were told by our guide, because it was against the law to harbor slaves. It is unknown where the slaves were hidden, but it may have been underneath the first floor hallway. According to the records of John Browns raid at Harper's Ferry, 13 of his men were from the Ashtabula area.
The house has many of the original furnishings with many portraits of the houses owners, maps of the area etc.
The Hubbard house is only open Memorial Day thru Labor Day on Fri., Sat., and Sun.

The Hubbard House is a wonderful place to visit and hear about how Ashtabula paid a high part in the Underground Railroad. The guides are very knowledgeable and willing to answer your questions. It is a great place for children to visit and learn a fun history lesson.

What a wonderfully kept and restored museum. We took a homeschool group for a tour and the guide could not have been more accommodating! They are open on a posted schedule, but very willing to accommodate groups. Guides are very knowledgeable and there are lots of original artifacts .

First, you can tour the house and not be a group, so ignore that comment. Two of us just walked in and a gentleman took us through. The house is interesting, and full of peeiod pieces. The tour guide had lots of i formation on the family. My problem is that there are no real connections to the URR. No hiding places, no tunnel, no records, no data, no numbers, not even any stories!!!... The tour focused almost entirely on the house and occupants. Yes, they were deemed to have been anti slavery, and twice investigated. Yes, he owned interest in a shipping business. But there are zero artfacts in the house. So instead there is a cardboard map of other Ashtabula homes on the RR, and a poster board describing other people's work (Harriet Tubman and the like) That's all, folks

It was so informative. A lot of facts about the family who lived there and their part in the railroad. The people who run the place are friendly and knowledgeable. The house is also filled with many historical artifacts. The tour's leader was passionate about the history of the house and the times. Enjoyed my time there
