Wonderful walk through this amazing place of honor to visit a friend. If you are walking from the US Marine Corps Memorial, you can enter/exit through the Ord & Weitzel gate. The security screeners there were very kind & helpful getting me pointed to the section where I’d find my friend.

My family and I visited Arlington to place my brother's remains per his wishes. Every aspect of the event was meticulously planned and executed by the most caring, professional members of the Arlington team, from the front gate entrance to the minute we left the venue. The only glitch was that we wanted to tour the cemetery after the ceremony and had difficulty navigating to the visitor's area assigned to that purpose. There is a tram that transports visitors to the most sought after areas of the cemetery, and believe me, it is well worth the fee they charge. The cemetery is very hilly, extremely large, and areas of interest are quite far apart. The docents that navigated the tram were very knowledgeable about what we were seeing. A plus was that you can get on and off the tram as many times as you wish, and trams were frequent. There is also a gift shop where you can purchase mementos of your trip. I was truly impressed by the professionalism and austerity displayed by all employees we encountered, and applaud them for their service in this very hallowed place.

Arlington National Cemetery marks the history of US military adventure abroad. The vast area across the Potomac River from Washington DC is the burial place of all major US military personnel. Quite inspiring to see so many Americans sacrificing their lives for the national cause. Do devote enough time to explore the place; history fans would like to look for familiar names.

This is a must-do whilst in the Washington DC area. There are no excuses as to why you can’t or shouldn’t go here. I am from the UK and one thing I love about the USA is their huge respect for the military personnel (current serving, former and deceased). This place is very sad of course but there is so much history here and so much pride! The white gravestones go on as far as the eye can see in every direction. You can spend all day there and not get around the whole place. One thing you cannot miss whilst there is the Tomb of the Unknown solider and if possible, the changing of the guard. I visited on a very hot late August day and the guard at the tomb was impeccable. I felt very privileged to watch the change of the guard and those soldiers do their country and themselves proud - it is flawless. Whilst I was there I also heard a gun salut and saw a horse drawn carriage passing with a coffin on the rear. A very sad occasion for sure with what I am guessing a recent loss. This place cannot be missed

I have been to the Arlington National Cemetery a few times. Seeing the perfect rows of tombstones always brings a tear to my eyes. To see the the number of young men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep America safe leaves me aw struck.

We did not go on a tour, but there was an app to find graves, which was very helpful as my grandparents are buried there. We were able to witness the changing of the guards at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier as well-so respectful.

This is a lovely place although it is very solemn. Much to learn so plan on spending some time in the visitor center. We took the tram and it worked out perfectly. Get on and get off when you want and spend as much time at each stop as you desire. While the tram is traveling there is a tour guide that delivers very interesting information. I do you should I do suggest you plan a tram stop about 10 minutes before the hour so you can watch the changing of the guard.

Ce lieu est tout simplement mythique et émouvant. Toutes ces tombes de soldats parfaitement alignées c'est assez fou à voir. L'émotion est palpable partout. Vous pourrez y voir la tombe des Kennedy également.

How far is it from either the metro station or the bus stop to the Welcome Center (probably also referred to as the Visitor Center?)

It's literally about 100 yards. As you leave the subway, walk the road ahead for about two minutes and the entrance is across the road

Is there a bus from the National Mall that will take you to Arlington National Cemetery?

If you purchase an Old Town Trolley tour they will pick you up at Lincoln Memorial. Then transport you to the Arlington National Cemetery visitor center. Once there you'll get on one of their cemetery trolleys. It's a great tour. Then you can hop on/off and walk wherever in the cemetery you want. They'll drop you off right at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider for the changing of the guards. It's one price. Old Town Trolley has a website you can decide the tour you'd like. You can take the Metro to the substation just outside of the cemetery and then walk to it... I'd suggest Old Town Trolley..

We will be passing by on our way to a one night stay in DC to sightsee. Is there parking on site at the cemetery, and is there a garage for parking?

Yes, there is parking for cars at Arlington National Cemetery. You can find more information, like times and directions, on their website.

Wear bug spray. Took some bugs back to hotel and got bit up in the bed overnight...This wasn't only buggy spot in DC and sometimes even comes off tour operator's bus. Would recommend you travel with a trash bag so you can 'quarantine' any clothing that gave you bites. Then stop by a laundromat ASAP...Change clothing and take shower when back at hotel. Dirty clothing goes in trash bag so you don't get rest of suitcase buggy... Do the tick check...DO NOT SIT DOWN ON HOTEL BED OR FURNITURE. May really regret that... Saw LOTS of people leaving area without luggage and dumped all their trip clothing...Labor Day visit was hard on lots of people.

Handle this place like a hike. Change clothing, shower + wash hair, put dirty clothing in trash bag and check your hair for ticks. Might be Oak mites...Some was fleas. Even had ticks. Nasty mess to handle and expensive to dump the luggage + clothing...Property was being mowed at time of my visit so probably made it worse as every kind of bug flying through the air.

Around 30 persons with their own vehicles will be attending a relative’s interment in September. I am struggling to find a nearby 4/5 star restaurant for the reception I must host, but I also need a recommendation for a 4-star hotel which can accommodate those guests the night before with the least amount of driving to the ceremony and back from the reception to the hotel. Both restaurant and hotel require good parking availability, as in a garage. Can anyone advise?

The are hotels in Crystal City as stated below that would fit your needs. Perhaps renting several limo vans would be a solution to get folks to the internment site. It’s might be a long walk from the Arlington Cemetery Metro Station to the actual internment location.

A friend’s husband is being interred in September. She needs to host a reception for 30 following the ceremony. We need a restaurant recommendation which will not require a long or difficult drive, as guests are from all over the world, and cant fight DC traffic. I am not seeing many 4- 5 star restaurants featuring Cuisine to suit varied tastes. Any suggestions sorely needed.

Recommend looking in the courthouse area to make it quick drive. Some options there or Clarendon

How long does the actual ceremony for changing of the guards take in the summer?
kelandchez
غلوستر, UK358 مساهمة
The guards are changed approximately every 30minutes, and they do the do the ceremony each time, the actual swap is 10 to 20 minutes of that. So it will not hold you there long, it depends if they also do a change of the wreath as well, which is done separately to the main ceremony, but usually involves children as well.
