Incredible views. My Guide, Digão +55 21 99342-0050 was spectacular! We learn a lot about Rocinha and Vidigal! We met at 4am at the bottom of the favela and the Motoboys drive us to the top of the favela, and then we walked 50 minutes to the top of the mountain. The sun rising was unforgettable. It's a must go!

Our best hike in Rio!
We hired a great and very affordable guide who lives in the favela as we were not sure about safety (Robinson Santos,whatsapp 0055-21_99876-9649 or Ana 0055-21-98394-4928 ).
Make sure you go in the morning, as it get very hot, even though the whole trail is shaded by trees. Do not go if the weather is cloudy (you will not see anything once you reach the top) nor after a rainy day (it is extremely slippery).
Bring good hiking shoes and water and may be hiking poles! The hike is very steep and the return can be treacherous.
We first took a taxi to the entrance of the favela then moto taxis to the top of the favela where the trail starts. Don't skip the moto-taxis going and returning as the road is quite long and steep to the start of the trail. Besides that, they are great fun. Robinson even filmed us as we were riding them!
If you want to drink fresh coco juice or water midway, do bring some change (hats off to the guy who schleps his merchandise half way to the trail). You sweat a lot on your way up, but it is WORTH IT ! At the top, the view is magnificent ! Thank you Robinson!

Definitivamente, NO es un camino fácil como muchos dicen.
No lo recomiendo para menores ni para adultos mayores.
Son 50 minutos de escalones y pendientes altas y totalmente irregulares.
Tomé el metro hasta la estación Antero de quental. (6,5 R$) luego caminé 4 cuadras hasta la avenida Niemeyer y tomé un taxi (10 R$) hasta Praça do Vidigal (10 minutos, la vuelta la hice caminando, porque es cuesta abajo) que es una entrada al barrio.
Se llega a una entrada en el barrio en la base del morro y se tiene que atravesar toda la favela subiendo hasta la entrada a la trilha. Esto lo hice en moto taxi. Los que te llevan están todos identificados con chalecos y enseguida te ofrecen llevarte. (5 R$ )
Le mencionas "trilha" y te lleva al punto.
Atraviesan todo el barrio de manera bastante salvaje, así que agarrate fuerte !
No se van a encontrar un lugar arreglado y turístico.
La entrada está a 40 metros del punto donde te deja la moto, y no es muy visible.
Hay una persona cobrando la entrada (10 R$)
Llevar calzado adecuado y por lo menos medio litro de agua en días calurosos. No se muestren muy turistas, si bien el barrio está pacificado y con policía, no deja de ser una favela
La vista es hermosa. Vale mucho la pena, pero insisto, NO es fácil como dicen. Diría dificultad 3/5 puntos.

Excelente excursión. Trekking exigente si se hace al medio día, por eso salir temprano. La vista al llegar es increíble. 20 - 30 min de ascenso. La llegada en Mototaxi por la favela también es toda una experiencia en si misma.

Has anyone does this as a group tour at all? If so was it worth the money? I was wondering if I am better off booking this as a group tour via my hotel or just do the trip myself and cut out the middle man?
I can book this trip through the concierge at the hotel but it will be 310R$. Is it worth paying that or just doing it myself? I will be travelling on my own so the only thing putting me off doing this trip on my own is having to travel through the favela & using moto taxi’s.
Any help would be much appreciated.

It honestly felt very safe going through the favela. Uber drops you to the bottom of the favela, then there were police cas and the moto-taxi people all in an area at the bottom. There was no-one other than tourists doing the hike on the trail, the only part of concern would be when you arrive back at the top of the favela waiting for a moto-taxi to arrive. There is a little guy with a shop there as a local, so you wouldn't be completely alone, although you may have to wait 10mins or so. I'm quite risk averse, and I did it without the tour guide.

Hi, I want to catch sunset here. How safe is it at night? Especially hiking down at night. Is there many other tourist at night?

As vãs continuam circulando entre o leblon e o vidigal. Sugiro que verifique se há indices de violência antes de fazer a trilha do morro dois irmãos.
Para chegar ate "o pé" de onde começa a trilha você pode ir de moto taxi ou combi. Evite fazer a trilha se a semana foi chovosa pois lá tem bastante terra que irá dificultar sua subida.
O morro dois irmãos tem umas das vistas mais bonitas do Rio de janeiro
