If you didn't get enough steps walking up Mt Huangshan, take this side trip. Approximately 1 hour each way with steeper stairs than you encountered before. Worth it? You bet!

In short!
This is the best Mountain View we’ve ever seen. We have altogether seen a lot of Mountain View’s, and nothing have been more beautiful than this. It has scary climbs, but totally doable even for me that are a tiny bit afraid of heights:)!
I would not recommend to climb with small, small children. You need both hands and cannot carry tired kids. Fences are ridiculous low at some parts of the climb, so I was happy my kids were home!

From Beihai then to Xihai then to the Grand Canyon and then back via the Xihai Tramway to Bright Top Peak is a trek worth doing although it is long and tiring. The views of the Grand Canyon are breath taking..deep valleys, verdant and emerald, with stunning peaks and cliffs enhanced by the interplay between light and shadow. It is very different from the views of the other areas around TianHai in which peaks and exposed granitic cliffs predominate.

Being to the canyon on my second day of visit after climbing the lotus peak(lianhua feng). I thought that I have seen everything that Huangshan has offered and the canyon would just be another mountain in the national park.
However, when I saw the valley and the rugged canyon (like being axed by Hercules), I was so excited and stunned by the beauty.
The hiking path is fairly steep when you descended down through the loops. My knees feel a little weak being afraid of the height. I had to grab the rope and leaning against the rock side, staying away from the railing at the canyon side.
The pine trees growing on the cliffs are very pretty- shaped like welcoming hands and cascaded platform. Fogs come and go, makes the canyon like a water color painting and fairy tell like. However, when fog gets too thick, it is difficult to see anything. So wish yourself a luck before you go-weather plays a huge part in Huangshan experience- running cloud sea, sunrise and sunset all need the blessing of the Mother Nature.

We were on Huangshan ( Yellow Mountain ) on March 16th when the train going down to bottom Xihai Great Canyon opened the first day in 2019. The train ride was amazing. Just looking around before we hike up made us very excited. We were told the canyon is 1209m from bottom to top, we took train both ways in order to catch the last cable train to return to the bottom of Yellow mountain. We wish we have time to climb up to the top of the Canyon then hike to our hotel. It probably would take over 2 hours. We hope we can return to Yellow Mountain in near future.

All I can say after this great hiking is that it’s dangerous but definitely worth your every single step into and out of the Grand Canyon. Actually, I was somewhat worrisome the night before because of raining weather forecast (and it indeed rained all night). The rain stopped right before we left and stepped into the canyon. From the first circle, then the second circle (taking the right turn to avoid a big shock). Ten of us decided to challenge the second circle to climb the left turn and then cane to the right turn circle. Lucky us experienced probably the most beautiful scenes In xihai Grand Canyon with all the mist, fog and cloud ocean flowing around and the mountain peaks on and out just matter of seconds. You have to come to personally experience such a gorgeous natural beauty. Definitely a must visit spot in Huangshan trip.

Huangshan is not Wheelchair accessable. You can't get around. We hiked about 2 hours to get to Tram for XiHai Canyon.
Hi, Can you tell me a little more about how narrow the trail is in the Xihai Great Canyon? We will have one larger backpack with food and water, and I'm wondering whether we will need to find a way to store it before going into the canyon. Thanks, Christine

I would definitely store your large backpack. The shear volume of people in the tour groups makes the walk through the canyon very difficult and at times frustrating. We brought enough water and a picnic lunch in a daypack.

hello I would like to visit the place with a couple of friends. do we have to pay a certain amount of money to get permission to hike.

Entrance fees to Mt Huangshan is RMB 230 per person and this includes hiking in the Xihai grand canyon. Elderly above 65 years old gets free entrance to Huangshan.
There are additional costs for visitors including elderly to take the mountain eco bus and cable car.

Hello from Greece. How are you? Could you help me with the canyon? I m planning to be there in april and to be honest I have no idea where to go. I ve read that I have to take the taiping cable car up and then... what??? I would like to see the fairy bridge and I don t want to stay on the mountain for the night, so I would like 2-3 hiking hours to see some of the spots and then to go down of course by cable car and back to tangkou or huangshan. Would you be so kind to explain me, how and where to go to do this? Thanks in advance!!

Hello Jason. The reason that I chose to visit china are these mountains and li river. I ve read too many 5 stars reviews but for some reason I believe yours more. I m not a hiking girl, I dont want to stay in a hotel on the mountains, I would like ( if I finally decide to go there) to visit fairy walking bridge and some other scenic views there (could you sujest me some?) and go back to my hotel to tangkou likely. That s the reason I would like someone with me like a guide lets say, so I can find all the views I would like to see whithout loosing time and energy, so do you know someone?I m a little bit confused about these mountains. I ve read that western steps are closed and we have to use the eastern steps only. Is that not very far from xihai grand canyon???

Hi, I read somewhere that Xihai Great Canyon is closed seasonally between December until April 1 for maintenance. Is that accurate? And if so, it is for the entire loop?
