Even though the observation tower is closed for renovation, the view from the park and the museum are worth the admission price. I especially liked the short but detailed picture I got of the iron industry here. Maybe a quarter of the exhibits were about the Vulcan statue. There were also a couple of special exhibitions.
This is one of the places that accepts the NARM (North American Reciprocal Museums) card for free admission. You can join at a museum near your home or almost any of the 1,000+ museums. Note that different museums charge different prices for the same NARM membership.

What a beautiful park.
Whilst Vulcan and the observation tower are closed for restoration at present the park is most certainly worth a visit.
The museum is interesting, the views of the city unrivaled and the grounds are so well manicured it is amazing.
The sandstone stairs towards the statue alone are worthy of the visit.
Beautiful and serene setting.

Unfortunately, we arrived just as the museum was closing, so I can't comment on that. But the grounds are beautiful and allow views of the city. Well worth seeing. Also, there's lots of fascinating history here. Read about the area and the Vulcan stature before you arrive, or plan to read the placards in the park. Either way, this location is worth an hour of your time.

We still bought a discounted ticket to see the small museum. Before going up the summit, we hiked an hour on the nearby Vulcan Trail. It is a nice overlook of the city and level to walk. Docent in the gift shop was delightful. Museum was average.

We went to see Vulcan. The views over the city are beautiful when you get to the park. You can either climb steps or take the elevator up to the observation deck to get a closer look at Vulcan. There is a very informative museum about the history of the iron industry in Birmingham. Also, the history of Vulcan. There is a gift shop as well. I believe there are hiking trails in the park, we were limited on time. We recommend visiting Vulcan.

Interesting history of the Vulcan statue and the homage it pays to the Iron ore miners in the early day s of Birmingham. Statue made a trip to the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, MO. You can take an elevator up to almost the top of the statue and view the city of Birmingham.

We had some time so decided to drive up to the park. We took a little walk around the grounds and around the Vulcan. Yes, it's big. Then we went up to the top for the view, which was nice. The small museum is nothing special. Staff was great. We had a nice conversation with both the person who sold us the tickets, and the person in the gift shop.

This place is a tourist trap. Really nothing to see here but a statue. It does have a view of Birmingham but it's trees cover most of it. I really wouldn't recommend it.

Museum - visually interesting, but not practical,
The museum is very interesting telling about the history of the city and vulcan. There are beautiful displays, however, the printing on plaques is quite small and very difficult to read . Also, the lighting is horrible. There’s no reason for such low light as there are only a few pieces that are of value that could be damaged. The sounds are competing with each other. I got a horrible headache.
Park - beautiful
Other than the ugly trees that block the main walkway, the park is well maintained. Great picnic area. The views are spectacular.
Old mine - not much to see, but be sure to take a peek at the entrance to the mine
Trail - a few relics
There are a few old stone remains, not worth walking to. However, the trail is good for a nice stroll or jog.
Vulcan - worth the climb

Un parque muy bien mantenido. Desde el lugar se miara la ciudad de Birmingham, pues el parque está en alto. La atracción principal es una estatua gigante de Vulcan, además que n museo sobre las minas explotadas al inicio de la ciudad, un homenaje a los defensores de los derechos sociales y otros.

No. Just a gift shop.
Would this be a good spot to stop for a picnic during a road trip? We only want to spend an hour and a half or so eating, stretching our legs, and exploring something new.

Hi Lucrisha, you would have an enjoyable time at this location. There are picnic benches in the area. The View would be worth while also. Don't forget to bring your camera and you can also go up inside the tower for an outstanding view of the city.

it is safe at night too. many come to watch the sunset from the platform at the base of the Vulcan statue. there is a ticket agent who has a clear view of the parking lot as well as an attendant at the base of the elevator to take you up to the Statue platform.

Can you Bike at this Park?

The paths in this park are very steep and not too long. You,d be better off riding somewhere else. There were several cars in the parking lot with bike racks attached. The bikes were in the racks, none were in use,
