‪We had a perfect day to visit this huge 18th C fortress built to house 4000 soldiers and 150 cannon all in the defense of the Ottomans who never returned after 1697. It’s under reconstruction with about 1/3rd completed and the balance in precarious condition. Impressive moats and earthworks complete the 82 acre Vauban-style star fort.‬

‪Except seeing Brod Fortress, dating 18th century, Gallery Ruzic made a great impression to me. It's located in renewed part of the fortress with more than 300 exibits; sculptures and paintings. Branko Ruzic is a famous Croatian sculptor & painter who donated his works to his native town, Slavonski Brod, in 1993.‬

Peccato.‬

‪The half day trip along the river here was well worth it. There is so much of the rich history of the Balkans that can be gleaned from here. The Fortress building itself is immaculate- a jewel of an "Ottoman" style dome!‬

‪Only able to have a brief visit during a cruise along the Sava River. Star shaped fortress is being restored and part of it is an art gallery.
Particularly impressed with the sculptures by Branco Ruzic whose donation started the gallery and also some of the paintings. Lots of space, about £1 entry. If you like art of the 20th C, then this is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Also has a model of how the fort would have looked.‬

‪Fortress in Slavonski Brod could be best trip if you find yourselfs in this town with history back in Roman Empire. Cool beach on river Sava (With lots of parking space and trees which is great during summer) and one of the beauties central town square in Croatia and “king” walk tour between central square (placed on river and next to fortrees and city libary) and beach.

City fortress itself have very big history.

Fortress is been renewed all the time but process is slow because it need archaeological excavation before some part can be rebuild.
Good part of fortrees is rebuild.
After main gate ( Locate next to city libary and main square) first building is now music school (First picture, number 1). After second building (now City Government Headquarters) there is playground for children while parents have great coffee break next to it with one view on playground and second on fortrees inside.

Picture 2. Is showing entrance bridge on left side of picture 2.
After bridge is Classical Gymnasium in first building on left.
Central part inside fortress is very beautiful new chapel.
Beside walking around fortress up and down, right and left (expect entering non rebuild parts because your own safety) with nice view from top there is also a museum of domestic musical instrument and a “museum”.

‪Hidden from public for more then 50 years, this pearl of 19th century fortress architecture is finally opened and revitalized. A home of city administration, music school and classic high school, which are harmoniously incorporated in environmental of original walls. Ideal for family walk, with playing yard and coffee shop.‬

‪If you are in Slavonski Brod you may as well have a look around. It’s free to enter and worth about 10 minutes if your time. There is one information board with quite a lot of text in English.

It is somewhat interesting, but really not worth going out of your way to view it. ‬
