‪The Kathakali Show and The Kalaripayattu Bout were both mesmerising. Our 2 year old son also enjoyed a lot, especially Kalaripayattu. The only down point was sound effects, they need to work on it.‬

‪I attended the show over a period of two days.First day I attended the Kathakali performance which was very good. The facial expressions of the dancer personifying the female character was top-notch.The latter part of the performance the commentary was in Malayali so it was difficult to understand thus turned a bit boring for people who couldn't understand what was going on.But overall if you understand dance, you'll enjoy the performance thoroughly.
The next day we went for the Kalariyapattu performance. It was excellent!!!!!Highly recommend this show because you'll just admire the flexibility and agility of the performers because they are so good at what they are doing. They also call for members from the audience as part of the performance where one person can even jump over 6 people! The last part of the show was an act with fire which though dangerous,is worth every penny. If you travel to Munnar even if for one day please pay this place a visit.Though it may seem dilapidated from outside but don't judge the book by its cover. You'll definitely have a good time.‬

‪This is a small enclosed space that has stages for performance of local art and culture. Saw the martial arts performance of one hours and was not disappointed. The physical construct of the place may not be exciting (can be disappointing also) but the performances certainly entertain you well. Entrance tickets are a bit pricey and parking can be issue in case of huge turnout. They also provide a photo op opportunity with the performers.‬

‪We were taken here by a local, otherwise wouldn't have known what to do or where to go. It's R300 to get in. Seats are arranged in galleries around a central sand-floored pit/ performance space. It's dark & hot & sweaty, but good fun. We saw six athletes doing a whole string of exercises involving gymnastics, sticks, pikes, swords, fire. It's well-rehearsed, looks physically very demanding, and some of it quite amazing (speed, dexterity, ferocity), but also quite formalised. Commentary was in Malayam only, so we never knew what was coming next! Children in the audience get to participate in one sequence involving athletes jumping over them. After the performance you can get a photo with the athletes.‬

‪Enjoyed as it was something different ...have 2 parts ..1 hr Khatakali and 1 hr Kalaripatu

First part of demonstration of Khatakali forms were boring ....Story part was good .

Kalaripatu was best and worth money spent ....

I suggest 30 min Kathakali and 90 min Kalaripatu‬

‪There are several places where Kathakali and Kalaripayittu shows are held. One at Thirumeny Culture Centre near Munnar town.

Another at Punnarjani which is around 9 kms away from Munnar town.

Typically one hour of Kathakali show followed by one hour of Kalaripayittu show.

Kathakali is a slow dance form of Kerala while Kalaripayittu is the martial arts form practiced in Kerala.

One could see both or either. We chose the Kalaripayittu show as kids felt Kathakali might be too slow for them.

Tickets at Thirumeni Cultural Centre is priced at Rs 300 for adults.

Inside there is a rectangular pit quite wide wherein the performers exhibit their skills.

Tip : For a vintage view choose the front row seat. Any front row seat should be fine.

The next one hour we were treated to some exhilarating exhibition of Kalaripayittu skills. Either it was combat, sword and shield, sticks, spears, or simply mind blowing exercise.

There was also a crowd participating event wherein ultimately the performer jumps over 7-8 people.

After the show one can take pictures with the Kalaripayittu team holding some of the weapons. The photo shoot is free. And almost the entire crowd took the pics.

Overall enjoyable.

For the kids : They loved the fast paced and seemingly impossible moves.

For the senior citizens : Equally enjoyable

It is a family outing. Go for it. Not to be missed.

The Kalaripayittu show starts at 6 pm at either centre. The Kathakali show starts at 5 pm.

One can finish Blossom Park take an auto to Thirumeny Culture Centre and walk down to any of the restaurants at Munnar town for dinner.

Restroom facilities : There is one averagely maintained restroom at the centre.‬

‪We got a chance to watch the kalari fight show, traditional fight from Kerala. There are lot of wow moments in this one hour long program. Program was from 6 - 7pm. Kathak was at 5-6, which we missed it. Ticket price is 300, little on the higher sidd. This is right in the town. Plan it post your sight seeing and be there on time to not miss out on action.‬

‪This is approx a 2 hour show and must watch. We enjoyed the Kathakali performance and artist interaction with the crowd. The narration was pretty difficult to follow as it was slightly accented.‬

‪This cultural show is certainly unique and was slightly unexpected. It was split into two halves, each an hour long. The first part is seeing the traditional dancing, they spent time demonstrating each move including the more intricate eye movements and facial expressions. This was totally lost on our two boys (aged 13 & 11), they didn’t know whether to laugh or be bored. The dance part is intriguing and it’s worth seeing to say you’ve done it.

The second part of the show was truly mesmerising, the traditional martial arts display was fantastic. The athleticism they could display was brilliant and we were all on the edge of our seats watching the fights with a variety of weapons. They’re incredibly skilled.

The boys rated the martial arts 5/5 and the dancing 1/5! However it’s worth going to, once! ‬
